I grew up listening to this album of Eric B & Rakim in 1987. They are truly the pioneers of hiphop. This is what it's all about. Not the stuff we hear today. I miss those days back in the day, people actually got along!

Paid In Full was one of those mandatory rap albums you HAD to have in your collection. It didn’t matter if it was an official studio copy or a dubbed copy from a friend.
The Architect of Rap, he fathered modern day rap flow, lyrics, style, swagger...you name it! Those who didn't change the way they flow got left behind.
Rakim is considered one of the greatest MC's to ever touch the mike. I saw an interview with Rakim and he was asked why he almost never curses in his rhymes, and he simply stated, because his parents listens to his music. If you don't listen to another Eric B and Rakim song, you should definitely check out "The Microphone Fiend"
I love your reaction to the scratching. It proves that record execs do not understand our creative musical sensibilities. Old school rappers have stated in recent years how the industry would ask them about the DJ, wondering " What does he do?". When explained, execs just didn't see the usefulness of the DJ only to drop them from their own group in favor of a record producer and cutting cost. They only wanted the lyricist(s), while the other element they felt was important was the music itself. So, many artists had to fight to keep their DJs.
I'm sure you know this already but for anyone that might not ... this is 1987. NINETEEN EIGHTY SEVEN. Thirty-six years ago. As many here are saying, he changed the game. Pretty much everyone had to throw out whatever they were working on and start over. Everything else sounded instantly dated. The reset button got hit.
