      Concerning your pun: we all have portable devices, so you don't have enough information to assume I watched the earlier uploads at home.

    The first bike dropped has a flat rear tyre. The second bike dropped is too big. The third one just wasn't his - maybe it got his team-mate back in the race to switch.
    Good teamwork.

      ​@@niceguy1774 panic is forcing your teammate off their bike when it's obvious it won't fit you, and causing an even bigger delay than if you just waited for the car in the first place

      @@Butterratbee it was, he had to swap bikes multiple times, causing him and each of those teammates to lose more time than if he had just stopped and waited for an appropriate sized bike

      @@Butterratbee the cars couldn't approach when he was blocking traffic, and he made 2 of his teammates give him their bikes before realizing how futile that was. That means he didn't save any time by taking their bikes, he made all 3 lose unnecessary time, and those other 2 riders then also needed to get bikes from a team car.
      He literally did the worst possible tactical option and you're defending it. You're the type of person that would draw a spiral when asked to make the shortest line between points

    Bikes are like shoes, 1 size does not fit all riders, Jonas is a small human, he is probably the smallest cyclist on his team. So a teammates bike could be to big for him.

    Like all the couch experts saying this is "panic", Vingegaard could have waited etc. In Chris Horner's video he says it was a close call for team TJV that could have lost them TDF. For Chris TJV "tactics were "spot on" and they did a "fantastic job". I'll take a pro's views for it. YMMV.

      I think Because of sizing, he take his teammate bike with different size, then he changed it to his size

      Vingegaard had a puncture IIRC.
      Then he took van Hooijdonk's bike, but that was too big for him, he's almost 20 cm taller.
      Then he took Kruijswijk's bike, but the team car was almost there, so he put that down to take his own spare bike.

    I really like all of the people saying that they’re panicking. Being urgent isn’t the same as panicking. He didn’t make any wrong decisions for each position he was in

    Man I wish they stuck to one bike like they do in motorsports.
    Not as interesting when they can just replace it with a brand new one on an instant.
    A well maintained, stress tested, worn in bike shouldn't have issues. No need to have 50 on a truck "just in case"

    Yeah I found this strange. Shouldn't pro cyclists bikes be fit to themselves, not to their teammates? So it would make sense to go instantly to the mechanic.

      That's what made me scratch my head with Michael Rogers' 2002 TDU finish on a Fan's bike. I'm just a punter, but even when I was young my knees never forgave even slight changes in position.

      They are. If you have a chance the domestique gets screwed and has to give up their bike. That's what they do. They do everything to ensure victory for the team. Chris Froome rode a bike that was WAY too small just to stay in yellow in 2016 after he crashed into his former teammate Richie Porte

      It would take way longer for a mechanic to deal with. Most of these guys however are pretty good at adapting to teammates' bikes, and there's at least one incident where a rider borrowed a spectator's bike to get to the finish.

      Sometimes the mechanics are held up or can’t get there for another minute. They don’t have a minute to wait. At some point the team car will catch up and give him his spare bike

    Jumbo Visma was absolutely panicking when Vingegaard crashed and has to take his teammate bike but it is too big for him... Then he changed with others but JV's support car already there ready to give him the approriate bike

    The crossing of the road a second before peleton whizzes by, wearing cleats seems more like Russian roulette than cool heads. It is hard enough to walk or hobble in those shoes.

      @@Butterratbee that they are uncomfortable to walk on is no doubt. I had to do over 10 km once. Running in them on a hard surface is high risk, and acceletarion even more so. What he did there was silly and selfish, risking taking down and causing great harm to a large group of cyclists to save a few seconds.

    Professional riders are so strong that the bike breaks down during the duration the race. That is why they change it. If they don't change the weather and tear in the compoments may catastrophically fail and cause an accident leading to injury or death.

    I'm new to the world of cycling. Apart from something breaking on the bike, why do they have these bike changes ? Especially so many of them in 1 minute. What happened here ?

      Thomas' bike had a mechanical issue. He is a flagman so his teammate gave him his bike. The bike obviously doesn't fit him so he ditches it as soon as service car drive by.

    Back in the days of old TDF they had to carry all the spare tubes and pumps packed on the bikes. Now it’s allowed to change the whole bike. How weak the humanity has become.

    This was last year. His ground crew is usually well versed and thoroughly practiced. The rider that originally offered his bike was way too big for the diminutive Jonas. Must have been a panic moment for all involved. Live and learn; but at least the Keystone Cops were funny. This scene is a total hot, steaming mess.
