    I can really sense the endearment you have towards that firearm. There are a lot of gun channels where people claim they love a gun, but it's only the middle child of a billion others that roll across the table. But not you. You wanted a 1911 and out of all the manufacturers that could have earned your hard earned cash, you chose Rock Island. Respect. I hope she brings you years of enjoyment.

    I have a RIA 1911 A1 FS, 45. The first rounds I fired were in a VERY tight pattern, some actually touching each other. I absolutely love the pistol. Even though it's a full size 1911, with the right belt and holster, it carries and conceals very well. If you're looking for a high quality, budget 1911 THIS is THE one.

    I happened to see this video while back while looking for a 1911, I had looked as the Remingtons, Rugers, Springfields, a Kimber or two. I picked the same RIA pistol up at a local gun show, changed the front sight out for a Dawson Precision fiber optic one and haven't regretted it yet. It has a couple of hiccups early on but has broken in nicely and no issues... I've seen friends with $2000.00 have way more problems...

    I have the RIA 1911 TACII and it's been great. I started shooting 50 yards with it and it's very accurate. I used it in alternative methods season and took a doe at 35 yards. Did a great job, with critical duty ammo.

    A very fine 1911 variation. My favorite gun to shoot and carry. I own 43 of them, and tend to build my own. I now carry a $350.00 ATI 1911 Military I re built with match components. Now, I carry it as my daily gun. I always carried a 3000.00 Colt that I just enjoy owning, it’s perfect in every way.
    That being said, I decided to retire my Colt in favor of this ATI I rebuilt. The ATI and yours are both Philippine made. I am so pleased with the slide and frame construction of this ATI 1911 Military. In my case I want a Classic old timer because that’s what I have become attracted to over ones with all the bells and whistles.
    I bought some buffalo Ivory grips, because I like Ivory, and after the rebuild it is a total badass. I know the mysterious secrets of lock time, and weight and balance, and it’s now perfect. 0-75 yards on demand.

    Maine (where I am proud to live) has constitutional carry. And the most common handgun I have seen being carried by anyone open carrying is some version of the 1911 in .45. Even seen some old war 1911's.
    I myself carry an RIA 1911A1 FS, and I have to say, I am so happy with it. Tight patterns, easy to control, built tight! and a lot more comfortable to carry than my old Glock (in my personal opinion and experience.)
    My only problem with it is that it doesn't like HP rounds. Pushed the bullet into the casing with the feed ramp the first time I tried. But overall, I really enjoy it and I know that with proper maintenance, this gun will outlast me.

    The Rock Island 1911 is made of 4140 steel. That steel is tempered just right to get the maximum strength and endurance ! It will last longer than you! It is the very same steel used in and as well made as much more expensive brands, but just as good! Take time, clean it up, polish the trigger , sear and dis-connector to lose a couple of pounds of trigger pull and you have a handgun second to none! The gun is made in the Philippines by very skilled mostly female workers. Don't belittle the quality, because most American made are made no better. Of course , Les Baer, Wilson, STI, Nighthawk, Kimber, Caspian and Cabot are all super fine firearms! They are finely finished, but mostly too costly for the trucker who wants good protection he can afford! He is not interested at showing off at the range to his buddies. If it shoots all the time and is accurate, that's all there is! You don't buy a work horse for show! You buy it to get the job done! There are better rounds than the .045, 230 grain, fmj, but it's all hair splitting! Let's just say, it's more than sufficient to stop any man or beast!

      Rock Islands are made out of the same steel, but they are cast instead of forged so they are not quite as durable as Colt, Springfield, Baer etc. However, Rock Islands are good quality and will most likely still last forever unless you are one of those people that fires thousands of rounds a weak. I'm actually shopping for a Rock Island at the moment to add to my collection.

      Nelson...Wow thats high praise! The Brown I bought for my brother has a pretty sweet trigger. Construction on the Brown is going to be a lot better than the RIA but you're right Rock Island is impressive for the money.

      @nelsoncampbell578 4 роки тому

      @@thomasakatidalforce7987 The Browns are LIGHTER ,but the RIA is CRISPER. Also noticed the front of the grip is thicker and flatter more like a Les Baer or Taurus PT1911,where the Brown is thinner and more rounded.

    I just got my first 1911 as well. The Rock Island GI 1911 FS. $400 at Rural King. It's a hell of a lot of gun. Like Matt, I appreciate the history of these beauties. I've only put 125 rounds through it so I'm still in the "break-in" period but those rounds consisted of 3 different brands and I didn't have a single failure. It ate everything I put through it. From low to medium grade ammo, everything fired and cycled. I'm itching to get it back out to the range so I can really get acquainted with this gun. Like most people who bought this model I changed the grips to something a little more textured. You can't go wrong with a Rock Island 1911.

    I just bought a Rock Island Armory 1911A1 45 ACP as my first handgun. It is a 1:1 of the colt 1911A1. Interchangeable parts.
    Never shot a handgun before in my life. At 50 feet. Out of 100 Rounds, 36 within the outside 3 rings of 6 rings. 64 within the first 3 rings of the Bullseye. Bullseye shot out. I don't think it was all me. It was the accuracy of the gun where I didn't have to compensate for anything or have other fancy tactical things to consider. It's a simple gun. An aim, point and shoot. Just like those little cameras. And it gets the job done.

    Got mine today, same model and color. I've had two RIA 1911 Mil specs before and loved them. No issues whatsoever. This one is a few steps above those. It's a keeper. I'm starting the break-in period tomorrow.
    RIA and Taurus seem to draw the haters out of the woodwork. Regardless of what company makes your firearms, there's gonna be problems every now and then. RIA and Taurus are evolving, and the quality of their firearms is showing. I'll be more than happy to give them my money.

      The head of RIA says that's actually just an urban myth - they've done everything themselves. And a few years ago, they redid everything with their CMC machining, brought in outside experts, cleaned up their production (Martin actually said that the old ones, like the Daley's, were junk), and now there's literally very few people that don't love them. I sure do like mine.

    Funny story, I wanted a new R.I. 1911, and I saw a .45 Tac Ultra double stack in the store. Hadn't even known R.I. made a double stack before then.
    Got it, then just weeks later saw this thing in there. I wanted one like this in the very first place. So I put it on layaway. this will be my third Rock Island 1911, and I am stoked. This thing looks sick in person. Mine was $570. Unbelievable considering what you get. The double stack will be my woods gun, and this one likely to be my edc, once I break it in.

    Man, I tried for years to buy a 1911. In 2004, I tried to buy a Charles Daly 1911, I was in R&R from Iraq and the seller told me that I had to be present to pick it up. I went back to Iraq pissed it was a great deal $400 with laser grip and nite sights. On my Second tour of Iraq, I tried to purchase a Para-ordnance 1911, the same deal something came in between and could not purchase it. Well, this time I return from a DC deployment this year, I went on line and purchased a handgun similar to the one in this video. I shipped to an FFL, I paid $529 and ironically the salesman was a Marine vet.

    -- SOC we carried 1911s. Then 20 years as a PSC, 1911s. Recently got into the 10mm. Was so-so about it, until I put it through a 1911, and everything came together. Got this RIA also. You get a lot for what you pay for, most importantly, you can trust your life to it. Break it in, and my experience, Ed Brown Mags, and you're pretty solid with that.
    I like the full guide rod for recoil, but field stripping (not like a mud puddle doesn't work for a 1911) is a pain in the butt.
    Because in the Holy Scriptures of Clapping Cheeks, John Browning, chapter 3, verse 2: All men passing from this world to the next, shall be honored, buried in a mountain of 1911s the size of The Great Pyramid of Giza.
    Thumbs up.

    i NOW HAVE 3 1911'S. one is Sig 1911-22, the other 2 are ROCK ISLAND's. One in 9mm and one in 45 ACP. Love these guns. At the range, 20 yds I shoot golf balls, yes golf balls. drill and mount screw eyelet and .032 safety wire to hang by. As a retired Nam Vet, if you can hit a golfball with 22,9 and 45 you are doing all right. ROCK ISLANDS are just a super gun. NO ISSUES. Winchester stell ammo bullets are dog shit.

    Slight correction. Armscor (Rock Island) has been in business since 1905. Started off as a print shop, but they began making firearms. They were bought out in 1941 and started making firearms in their present corporation in 1952. I had no idea they were that old. Surprised me, frankly.

    Bravo-Zulu!! Those look like VZ grips they are Very nice!! You did Well Grasshopper! When you start to carry it I would suggest going with Hornady Critical Defense since the profile of the bullet works better with the angle in the 1911 without a ramped barrel.

      af22raptor23503
      Personally I have tried bothe the Hornady CD and good old fashion Winchester Green Box JHP and both run reliably enough to recommend either of them.
      Benefits of the Winchester Green Box JHP is the price... it was $25 for a box of 50 about 2 months ago when I picked up a few boxes at Wal-Mart. So I'd dare to say that they are cheap enough to use at the range and for self defense.

    • @af22raptor23503
      @af22raptor23503 6 років тому +1

      Winchester do feed reliably too but they do not expand as reliably as the Hornady CD because the cavity gets clogged without expansion where the Hornady's polymer tip assures that the projectile will expand. I have seen first hand testing on dead pigs bodies of 9mm, 40sw and 45acp with great expansion as advertised. After the testing we pulled the slugs and then we had some great BBQ!

    • @af22raptor23503
      @af22raptor23503 6 років тому +1

      I get my defense ammo online when it goes on sale and get a few 100 rounds of each caliber that I carry. A couple of years ago when hornady discontinued zombie max and was able to get 140 rds of 45acp that I still have in my carry mags. I swap out my carry ammo every January with new Fresh Ammo and the ammo that was in the mags inside the gun gets used on the first trip to the range of the year as well as the ammo in the shoulder rig. So every January I normally fire off about 25 round of 45acp CD/ZM ammo.

    Nice video sir, I will get a 1911 one of these days. At first I was interested in the commander but after handling and shooting both I to like the standard 5in better. The grip length is the same and they little extra barrel balanced it nice plus if you do carry it the barrel length is not really as much of an issue. I did recently like last week pick up a Glock 30s I’ve got 150 rounds in it and zero malfunctions and I can carry if pretty easy. Keep up the good work.
