Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.
New to your channel and so happy I came across!! This came out really beautiful. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to do some easy built-ins in our rental living room and I love what you did with the doors on just the bottom half. You did such a good job with it, and also it looks like a very approachable project to tackle. Thanks for sharing this 🤗
So happy that you found my channel! Thank you so much. I think that the doors would look really nice on a built in option, I'm excited for you to try it out!
I'm thinking of painting my newly asquired Billy bookcase indoors, I'm hoping the kitchen fan is enough ventilation. I don't have access to a yard. If you put 2 coats of the shellac primer, do you need to wash in between coats if not it'll dry on your roller and tray? Did you use 2 coats? And any tips of painting both sides at the same time when your item is on a support? Thx in advance!
Hi, if you can open the windows while you're painting and wear either a respirator mask or an n95, that would be best! I only did one coat of the primer, you just need to cover it fully so the regular paint sticks, so just do touch ups if you notice any spots you missed after it dries. It dries fairly quickly, so you should only need an hour or so before you can flip the doors to paint the other side. The roller won't dry out that quickly. If you are concerned, just place the roller end into a plastic bag like a ziploc or a grocery bag and close it around it to cut off air flow. Keeps the roller moist for days! The paint in the tray will be fine.
It wasn’t attached just because I had to move it around a lot for the video. All bookshelves like this need to be attached because they are not very sturdy.
We got ours when we moved into our house because there are SO many projects to do and we use it constantly. But I understand how it wouldn't be practical for everyone!
The pole wrap is genius! I was trying to figure out a way to add "slats" to my Oxford door without cutting a bunch of individual pieces. This worked great!
Hello Katie I was very impressed by both the color that you chose to paint the Billy and the inlay (pole wrap). You made it look so easy that it has inspired me to do the same! Thank you!
Love how the cabinet turned out…!!! From boring to FANTABULOUS 😍😍😍 I think the “ pole wrap” is a really cool thing and has so many uses…you did a great job on the paint choice too☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
I did something similar, but additionaly I changed the legs area. I used the Nannarp legs for the Besta series and painted them anrique golden as well. ✨
I would love to see an updated video on how the paint is holding up now, a few months into use. I've got several Ikea pieces I'd like to paint, but I'm so scared of the paint looking terrible over time. How is the bookcase doing now? Also, I love the color you chose!
Hi! Thank you! I probably won’t make a video about it here but I can do an update on my Instagram stories. I can say it’s held up extremely well. Not a chip or scratch in sight. I’ve moved the bookcase itself a couple of times and everything has remained perfect. I think the biggest tip I have is to use the Zinsser BIN primer. It’s what really makes the next coat of paint stick. You can also seal it (which I didn’t do) to make it even more durable.
@@frenchie13 Hi, I personally did not seal it because mine isn't getting a lot of wear and tear, but it's definitely an option if you're concerned about chipping or scratching. I haven't had any issues so far though!

Perfection!! I used Mesa Taupe on a flip and paired with wood tones, it’s a match made in heaven 😍
No way!! That’s so funny, I had no idea what color I was going to use and that one just popped out at me when I was at Home Depot 🤣 Twins!

This is really beautiful! Do you think adding shelves in the cupboard section would prevent the doors from closing?
Thanks! No it won’t be a problem, I put one shelf back in at the bottom and the doors close just fine 🙂

Hello
Absolutely gorgeous!! 😍
I did something similar, but additionaly I changed the legs area. I used the Nannarp legs for the Besta series and painted them anrique golden as well. ✨
That sounds really cool!
Did you need to modify the base of the ikea to fit those legs on?
This is so beautiful and clean! Thank you for the video❣️
Thank you so much!
Amazing! I love that paint color.
Thanks! I'm so happy with the choice.
Enjoyed watching this sooo much, it turned out beautiful Katie ❣️
Ah yay so happy to hear that, thank you!
I love your rug. Is it ruggable?
Thanks! No it's not Ruggable, I think it's Safavieh, but I've been really tempted to try out their rugs lately!
