      Depending on how old your truck is, I would recommend using some intake value cleaner to clean out all the carbon on the values. Get 2 cans and follow the instructions run run the other can a week later. After you complete the cleaning you will see and feel a smooth engine. You should avg close to 21 combined. If not lose the spare weight.

      The oil embargo tif the 70's was why all cars in the late 70's and the 80's had 55 in a different color, and why highway speed limits were 55.
      Also, air resistance increases as a square of the speed so... Ummm ... yea, slowing down will always increase fuel economy of EVERY type of engine.

      Just about impossible in these trucks. Sixth gear 55 mph is right at 2000 rpm. I run in my 2007 6 speed between 55-60 mph usually so around 2100-2200 rpm. Your statement is correct however. I really wish they had just a tad higher gear or taller tire.

    I suggest disconnecting the battery for a minute or so while cleaning the MAF sensor. This clears the ECU’s learned values and it will then respond to the MAF readings quicker. Otherwise it might take a bit longer before seeing the results of cleaning the MAF sensor.

    • @IIThaGawdII
      @IIThaGawdII 2 роки тому +1

      After you disconnect the battery to clean the MAF sensor; do you connect the battery first or the MAF sensor? I’m assuming the MAF sensor because the battery is responding to the clean MAF sensor and the better ECU values. Correct me if I’m wrong.

    Great video, my Tacoma (4cyl. V6) TRD Prerunner, MPG for the is 22 City, 26.4 Hw (@55mph) or 20.5 (@70mph). I check every time i fill up. I would also add to remove any weight like the spare tire if your driving locally. Also replace the O2 sensor and spark plugs with better upgrade parts. After doing this my 2007 Tacoma goes 368 - 378 miles just before the Yellow gas light turns on. My maximum distance I've travel in my tacoma was 420 miles the owners manual says max distance was 354 miles. Total miles on my truck is over 175k.

      The spare tire weighs 60lb at least my 285 75 R16 does. Lower rpm better mileage, with my larger tires my speed is off by +5mph. I reach over 200k miles and my truck works fine. As for tips I would recommend using CRC or some type of intake value cleaner use the PCV value line into the engine you will need to run this process at least twice for better results. Then install a oil catch can because all Tacoma engine are GDI. Another tip is when driving less than 45mph, AC off and windows downs or open.If it’s to hot invest in heat rejection tint. Greater than 45mph AC on and windows up. Hope this helps best of luck to y’all.

    • @09FoxRider
      @09FoxRider 3 роки тому

      @@ethanromero3442 yes, the biggest improvement I got was clean out the intake valves to the truck. There are two ways to do this 1st (easiest way) add sea foam or some clean agent in to the hose that is opposite of the pvc value. I would recommend this treatment every 20k miles. Or you take apart the manifold and clean it manually. Once you completed the process and install an oil catch can your truck will improve greatly. This generation of Tacoma are the GDI engine and are subject to carbon residue.

    Great video. And great advice. I would like to add that the pcv valve is a critical part that most always gets overlooked when we give our vehicles a tuneup. If a pcv valve stops working, it will suck oil into the combustion chambers an will burn oil. This will eventualy lead to clogging ur catalytic converter/s. If u havent changed ur pcv valve then its time to do so.

    Since I bought my 2005 TRD Sport 4x4 Access cab 4.0 6M Taco only 1 thing has effected the mileage and that is the tires. I switched from the crappy Hankook ATM to a Michelin and got almost 1 mpg. NOTHING else mattered. Accelerate hard or gentle…no difference. Changed the 70 thousandths gap old plugs, even switched everything to synthetic….nothing. Mileage is still shit. That being said there is NO WAY in hell I am going to dive 60, I would rather keep my man card than save $1. Premium where I get gas is about $8 a thank more so that is certainly not worth it.

    Who cares about fuel economy, the 4.0 is a great engine for a v6. I made the mistake of trading in a 2004 4Runner with the 4.0 for a 2016 Tacoma with the 3.5 and it got worse fuel economy, and was completely gutless on the low end.

    • @09FoxRider
      @09FoxRider 3 роки тому

      Some ppl care about mpg I put 25k a year on my truck for travel. So at 2.50 per gallon at 2/mpg to which means I save about $500 in gas per year.
      4.0 has a lot more torque at lower RPMs. The 3.5 is actually rated with about 30 more HP but is higher in RPMs. The 4.0 has a 5 speed automatic transmission and the new 3.5 is coupled with a 6 speed automatic tranny.

    • @Terminxman
      @Terminxman 3 роки тому +2

      @@09FoxRider I'm well aware, the 4.0 in my experience got better fuel economy, it didn't have to down shift to climb the slightest grade, the 6 speed with the 3.5 has basically two overdrives that are useless because it lacks the torque to keep it lugging along. Regardless, not a MASSIVE difference in fuel economy but drivability to me with the 3.5 is awful, the engine is designed for a camry.

    • @09FoxRider
      @09FoxRider 3 роки тому +1

      Yes your right the 3rd gen or current models run into that issue but that’s because it’s efficiency and reliable. The platform for the 3.5 l v6 engine does not work smoothly in shifting and lacks power as compared to other bands. Toyota's newer TNGA platform for the 2024 redesign will feature something closer to the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 making 409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, it’s currently in the Lexis LS 500 and the new land cruiser. Toyota likes to share engines to different vehicles as a cheaper and faster production. This same engine is also the platform for the new 2023 Tundra. Eventually they will transfer the same engine into the Tacoma. At some point I would imagine this engine in 4x4 for higher end models such as the TRD Off-road and up. The issue in these engine is the balance between gear shifting and efficient. Toyota will choose efficiency every time. Other brands such as mercedes and bmw chose power and comfort hence there engine don’t last that long. Just look at their warranty.

    • @Terminxman
      @Terminxman 3 роки тому

      @@09FoxRider It's not efficient and reliable though, I get that was the GOAL. That's not why mercedes/bmw engines don't last long either. You have no idea what you're saying. The 3.5 does make a fair amount of power, so your arguement doesn't really make sense. It's not about HP, it's about low end torque.

As soon as I cleaned the filter (It wasn't very dirty) and put it back correctly my mileage came back to 300 from 214 per tank. I have 285 tires and a 3" lift so I know its not going to great. The engine cover is there to keep the warm from the engine when its winter time. Other then that if u live were its never snows then take it off. U dont want the heat of the engine staying there. Mostly everything is plastic on the upper part of the motor. Too much heat staying there will eventually crack the plastic.

      Electric fans give out and you'll over heat. Then what. Msd ignition isn't necessary unless you're racing.
