What is JROTC? Should you join?

  • In middle school, I had no real idea what I was signing up for. My Dad just recommended it, so I signed up for it. It turned out to be one of the most life changing programs I had ever been in. For without it, I wouldn't have joined the Air Force, I wouldn't have half of the skills, friends, or experiences that I do today, and I probably wouldn't have this UA-cam channel. Anyways, I would suggest it to anyone looking to better themselves or earn another post-high school option to their list.

    I left middle school and went to a completely different high school than my friends. Since I have mega social issues and I’m super shy, I kept my head down and stayed to myself my ninth grade year. The teachers and counselors were worried about me, but there was nothing to be worried about. I just didn’t want to be there.
    Eventually I got tired of not talking or sitting with anyone at lunch, so, I decided I needed a friend. I found a guy who was super nice to me and he was in the jrotc at our school. So he was the one who convinced me to join, and honestly? It was the best thing to happen. My tenth grade year so far is the best ever. I have made so many friends and my confidence and grades are up. Everyone is just amazing! I went to a mini camp back in November and became a C/captain over public affairs. And this summer I’m going to the big summer leadership school so I can be more than a captain and move up in rank (my goal is to be a flight commander and inspire others like my outstanding AS1 flight commander did.).
    I love this program and all the people in it. They changed my life for the better and filled that gap I was missing in my life. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

My dad influenced me to join from all of his fun stories and the great friendships he made, and I too have built friendships with others in the program. I have grown in self-confidence, self-esteem, and many more traits that help you pursue life goals and dreams. I also would highly encourage any middle school students to join when you get to high school.

    I wish I could rewind back time and join. I'm 26 now. I never knew about it in highschool. I was the person who just wanted to get high school done with and leave. I joined 2 clubs, but I wished I did more like JROTC. i always encourage the kids to make high school fun. Go to games, join clubs, do things that will make it really memorable because you will regret it like I did. My high school days sucked and I wish I could rewind time and do it all over again. I'd definitely join JROTC. My school didn't really tell you about it either. I wished they brought up the different clubs or things you could do around high school and not just going to class. I wish they told us about JROTC and what it is. But all in all, I encourage every upcoming high schoolers to make it memorable even if you hate the school.

    I’m gonna be joining JROTC this school year, so I’ve been looking at videos and such to see what it’s like. I know for a fact that I’m definitely not gonna be able to keep up with the physical training but believe me when I try, I try. So in truth the thing I’m most afraid about joining it is that others will judge me for not being on the same level as them physically like when I was in athletics.

    I love NJROTC in PCTI, it's so amazing to be in this program. And in my school, once you join the program, it replaces gym. As a freshman, I joined late September, because we got to see a presentation in gym. I was very quiet and my freshman year, I just wanted to know the program. Along the way, I received a few ribbons and was promoted to a Seamen (E-3). Then just last year as a sophomore, I wanted to become more involved in the program, so I joined the drill team, where I made so many friends and was in the PT and Academic team. We won many first place along the way. I also did many community service events. When I was assigned as a platoon commander, I was promoted to a Ensign (O-1). Then I knew, I improved so such as a cadet and a person. I also tried out for Area 4 Leadership Academy, but I didn't make it on the final cut. I was a little bit upset, but that made me motivated than ever. Now this summer, I am doing Basic Leadership Academy as an incoming junior and I am the PT Assistant officer and also looking to be the Company Commander (O-3). I am so excited for this upcoming year!!!

    • @xiii8044
      @xiii8044 7 років тому +9

      Ali Kingery It's indeed common, find a school nearby that has JROTC. You'll be out of district and it happens all the time. The one requirement is that you keep up your grades. If your GPA falls down to around 2.0 or something, you would get removed from the program and sent back to your district school.

    Sometimes the magic of friendship happens, and sometimes it doesn’t.
    For example, let’s say in college you join a kayaking club. You get a couple of cool outings a semester, but with a number of weeks between each one, it’s not really often enough to get any kind of social traction going.
    Often in college, it’s the officers of a club or organization who become friends. It has to be something you genuinely want to put the hours into.
    My advice to young people is to respectfully visit a number of clubs. Any reputable group will be fine with you visiting two or three times. And you can see if it’s the type of thing you want to devout more hours to.
    One tricky part about your first semester of college is that you want to get on top of your class load, and you’re probably still fine-tuning your study methods. But also, that first part of the academic year is when people are most open to meeting new people.
    I wish you all the best as a young adult! 🚴🏾‍♂️ 🎸 🎶 👩🏻‍🔬

    C.A.P. is also an excellent program to join. If you have a well put together and well lead squadron you can lead and take charge, gain much more responsibility and even SAVE LIVES. You can't get all of that from JROTC. That is just the way I am seeing it after 2 very active years in CAP and 2 very active years in JROTC.

    • @CrackaSteve
      @CrackaSteve 7 років тому +2

      ROTC is like a big family, no one is going to bully or hurt you, the most that will happen is people getting on your case during inspection, but that's like the only time. Plus, if bullying does occur, then you should most definitely talk with you Instructors, and get it resolved. Don't let things get in the way of your ROTC career, I'm a junior, my 3rd year in ROTC, and I already have Scholarships lined up, waiting for me to chose, all because of ROTC. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

    Being from Hawaiii, I had no idea what jrotc was. It wasn't until I joined Army jrotc and Marine jrotc in Texas; where I live now. Because both my father and Grandfather were in the Army National Guard and Navy, that was influence enough.
    I was placed in Special Education in Hawaii,; and I wasn't the brightest tool in the shed. I was buried in the 5th grade, and I have some medical mysteries. I graduated HS in May of this year, and I left on a positive note, as a MCJROTC Staff Sargent; with a total of 7 ribbons and 2 medals. I've seen people who treat it like real military stuff, and act entitled about it. From the perspective of a Canadian, my friends held alot of respect for them, thinking it was actual military, but when I told them it's pretty much Army Cadets, (the Canadian version which also isn't actual military) they pretty much just told them not to act so entitled.

    It really depends on the people who are in // run the program. The ns4's (seniors) pretty much run it. I would recommend meeting them and talking to them about it and or go to kickstart before the school year starts if they have one. Military wise, I would strongly recommend it. You learn how to drill, basic fundamentals, ranks, and get a head start if you ENLIST. Joining The NJROTC program At highland high school was the best choice of my high school career.
