I just got into Jrotc as a freshman and kinda intimidated by the senior classmates but this helped me very much
Edit : I am now a Sophomore, I feel... Slightly more superior than the Freshmen.
Edit : Junior now, I've done so many things and I'm kinda getting tired, though I'll keep doing it since it's fun.
Edit : I'm now a senior now, I've done so much in the past 4 years. I've done JCLC, Parades, Drill and Color Guard Competitions and even commanded some as well, even won some trophies. I will be graduating May of 2024, I thank everyone for following a piece of my life. Thank you! Cadet Major, signing off.
@Alonzo Perry Im a freshman AJROTC, and I'm in color guard
I’m in 8th and put JROTC on my schedule for next year, it’s Army JROTC
Don’t be intimidated you’ll become them soon lol
Do they drug test ?
I'm going into my freshman year and am doing air force JROTC and I'm kinda scared to lose my friends and be too enclosed within JROTC and not be able to focus on other classes
I'm currently half way through my fourth year of JROTC and it has been the best experience of my life along with Raiders, but know that if you are thinking of taking the class you will have high expectations and their is a lot of responsibility put on you as you move up in positions, but it really is a great program, a great place to make friends, and a great place to develop your confidence in yourself.
Couldn’t agree more I’m a 2nd year btw
what is the relationship with the other students? i’m going into freshman year with it and i just want to know if non jrotc will bully us
Airowstone what can you say about a senior in let 1 first year in jrotc. What can I expect to happen.
What’s the difference between joining the military from hs and going to jrotc
it’s also a great place to develop crushes on people of a lower rank. I’m definitely not speaking from personal experience😅
i joined rotc in my high school and I wasn't sure what was it about and I am very nervous but this helped me be more relaxed about joining to the class.
edit: I am now a sophomore and is the academic team commander for my unit and im in a bunch of drill teams :)
@Syther yea and now i have my shirt my garrison and my shoes and I'm comfortable around Master chief and commander used to thought they were scary cuz that have very fancy uniforms and mean faces but there nice and supportive of every thing!
Syther rip ur going to get bullied at first but then it’s going to feel like home promise me I’m sure everyone is going to be nice but I’m in the navy there a lot more strict then the others but it will be fine just dointn disrespect anyone but yea it’s will just be like home 😂
I'm still afraid of PT lolol
Is it possible to join as a sophomore?
@@andrewmabe336 yes it is possible we got a couple of first years who are sophomores
When I was in JROTC in my High School years many students would Mock us in our Uniforms and our Marching but what they don’t understand is that we learn Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal courage all in our years in High School.
“No excuses just results”
Tbh I would hate the people who would mock people in JROTC training and practices
I know how you feel. The amount of times I got bullied for wearing the uniform was ridiculous but I'm glad I stuck with it. Joining JROTC in highschool was one of the best decisions I ever made and I wouldn't trade that for any other school activity.
Should be called jblc, aka, junior bootlickers camp! Take some abused kids that have behavioral issues who fantasize about having power and take the edges off. So they fit into the cogs of the wheels. Divert a few of them to play uc taskforce and get them addicted that should go over real well.
I was in Army JROTC at my high school. I have no complaints whatsoever. I highly recommend it even if you aren't going into the military
I’m thinking of doing the Army JROTC, but not sure what happens in it. Can you tell me what we do in it?
Does it pay for your college

I joined JROTC my freshman year to lose weight in the Raider Team and I loved the program so much that eventually I ended up joining all the team( off course not all at the same time) but besides raiders I joined the Drill Team, Academic, Rifle, and Color Guard Team. Now is my 3rd year and I'm the battalion Command Sergeant Major. I could say that all the best memories I have in high school so far are from JROTC and boot camp(JCLC ) Is a lot of fun, sadly is only for 5 days. If you're thinking about joining i highly recommend it. This program will help you grow, and you will develop as a leader and a good citizen.
Did you lose weight?
Bro raider team was lit. Still got my state ring. One of the best teams in JROTC along with drill team.
i js started my freshman year and my 1st period is JROTC. Im also joining the Unarmed Drill team! Its very fun and pretty interesting. i was a commander in my middle school leadership corp Honor guard so jrotc was basically a natural interest for me
Thanks for this video I’m beginning freshman year and plan on going to the navy after high school and have been wanting to take this class badly.
Same here! See ya in the sea!⚓️🇺🇸
I'm in the 8th grade and I had my igp (individual graduation plan) and I was asked if I wanted to join jrotc and I said yes 🤦♂️I cant belive what I signed up for anyways I guess ill still do it 😅
good luck man am in jrotc
MCJROTC was the best thing i joined, it definitely taught me discipline i was always a troubled autistic kid until i joined. I had no idea i could make it to Cadet Sergeant in 4 promotions. Definitely join a JROTC, it definitely changed who i was before.
Speaking as a battalion commander, drill team commander, and exhibition teacher. JROTC is a very fun class, but sometimes isn’t made for everyone.
Great Job, Sir!!! Thank you for creating this.
I’m joining Navy JROTC. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. Thanks for the information 🙏

Life changing ❤️🔥 I went in a shy 14 yr old dork lol . Finished a cadet SSgt.
3 yrs in Unarmed drill team .
The leadership and friendships I witnessed as Cadets is still with me till this day . Open doors for me I would have never had without ROTC. 🔥
I’m a freshman and I’ve joined jrotc, it’s a great experience for me.(except the other freshman who made it less enjoyable). I’m not even joining the millitary but it’s a fun, it gives me pe credits.
Enjoyed your commentary... nice to see a former 34th AR guy at work!
i’m joining in my prefreshman year and i’m excited
Jrotc is one of the best things that has happened to me
i joined my schools afjrotc my freshman year thinking it would be something to try out and I’d never do it again but ended up doing it all throughout high school. it’s honestly really fun
update: I became first semesters deputy group commander and second semesters group commander :)
what is the relationship with non-jrotc students
@@ashlynann1709 it’s not too bad!! it’s kind of hard for me to speak for people who just do rotc though because i am in cheer, chorus, and leadership as well so i have friends from other stuff too. but as far as i can tell, everybody’s pretty friendly. I mean there’s the occasional joke here and there but it’s usually light hearted. it seems everyone in jrotc has friends in and out of the program.
@@dreamsoutloud ok that’s makes me feel better. how about uniform days? what is that like? (thanks for responding so quickly lol)
@@ashlynann1709 uniform days are fine. it can be frustrating some times though, like if you have a spirit week and want to participate you can’t on uniform day or if it happens to be halloween on uniform day you can’t wear any fun halloween clothes or anything lol but other than that it’s not too bad. our uniform day is on wednesdays. you just get uniform checked to make sure you’re in regulation and make sure you wear your cover (hat) when you’re outside. you don’t have to wear the exact same uniform each week either. it might be different for other branches, but my school is Air Force and some weeks we wear our service dress coat and other weeks we wear our flight jacket. and if you have a staff position (if you’re an officer, NCO, etc.) then you also have the opportunity to wear a totally different uniform which we call ABU’s (it’s basically the camouflage uniform). girls can also order a skirt to wear if they like (I still have yet to get one because I’m lazy lol). but that’s the gist of it, sorry that’s so long but I hope it helped!
@@dreamsoutloud yes it helped! this made me feel so much better thank you!!!
I was loving JROTC and was in for two years but my instructor kept humiliating me in front of the class. Not for anything academic or related to grooming standards, he would make fun of how skinny I was. It was humiliating to endure this constantly and have the class laugh at me. It wasn’t like a military way of toughening me up, he just did it to be rude. His daughter was in the program as well and she would make the other cadets cry because she was such a bully. I had to leave, although I had an awesome time hanging with friends and being on the drill team.
It was an okay experience, my other instructor was awesome and encouraging. The one I mentioned previously would mock the African American cadet for speaking they way she did, and he would be ruthless to kids if they had any acne. Joining JROTC is a gamble, many cadets talk about their toxic leadership at other schools, while others have a very pleasant time. It did help me get into college so that’s that.
We would tell you the same thing about having a bad JROTC instructor as we would for any other class. If the teacher makes you feel uncomfortable, tell your counselor. Or, talk to your principal. No teacher has the right to demean you. In this instance, you could have started with the other instructor. Even if the behavior doesn't stop for you, you have started to build a record of concern within the school administration. You can help those who follow. We know it isn't easy, but being constructively assertive is a skill you will use for the rest of your life.
Excellent job!
I'm currently a let 2 in Army JROTC I'm an s6 and do all things tech related. Since joining my mental has improved, I've even made better friends and improved my grades. I'm even taking college classes now as a junior in hs! This video is such a good video for anyone interested!

I was involved in Army JROTC in California from 2 and a half years, and since I came to Texas; I've joined Marine Corps Jrotc, for Junior and now Senior year. I'm going to miss MCJROTC when I graduate from Midway high school in a couple weeks. Young High School students should join JROTC to build character,, develop good citizenship, and build courage.
Outstanding sir!!!!!!!!
Heavily considering joining JROTC since I just started my sophomore year in Highschool. This video only makes me want to join more
Been it it 3 years now, the goal is for you to graduate, be a better and more productive citizen in the future, and it teaches you leadership, integrity, respect, discipline, patriotism, and confidence. It will also help if you planning on going to the military (like me) but if you do it, don't be immature and take it for granted, it's a privilege. Good luck.
In three months, I'll be heading to the 9th. I'm eager to participate in the NJROTC.
Thank you for this information. My son is starting high school and wants to join.
Army jrotc cadet love every minute of it the blue flame battalion is the best
Is JROTC overnight because the closest highschool to me that offers it is 58 minutes away
If you are asking if JROTC has overnight programs, the answer is generally no. There may be a short (a few days long) summer camp offered, depending on the program.
We hope that answers your question! Let us know if you have any more!
Im in AFJROTC and I can say it’s easy, just do what your told and be better then the others and you will succeed.
What’s the difference
@@vip_kayy_ what you mean?
@@notneggi8409 what’s the difference between AFJORTC and JROTC
@@vip_kayy_ Well JROTC stands for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and each US Millitary Branch has a JROTC, some are NJROTC (Navy), AFJROTC (Air Force) and AJROTC (Army). They all are different, but you group them all in and just say JROTC.
Oh ok thank you for clearing that up
In the uk we have the cadet force , it’s like the jrotc. We have an air cadet force . Army cadet force ( I am an army cadet ) . And sea cadets which is like the navy .
Pretty cool, how is that?
same as in Pakistan, I'm in navy cadet college
Cant wait to join next year
It's very fun, trust us guys!
For those watching in middle school and considering joining.
You'll get out of the program for what you put in. Don't go in as a freshmen expecting to become Group Commander by the end of the year. Also don't expect to be super decorated by doing nothing. Awards are earned (mostly), so if you want a lot of them do a lot of things. I'm currently in my 3rd year as a C/2Lt and have only got here because I've put in hundreds of community service hours, and spend multiple hours a week working on things for it. I do highly recommend it even if your dead set on not joining the military, I've made some great friends out of this program and because this is my 3rd year I've seen my peers grow alongside me.
I Joined as a freshman easily my favorite part of high school
I'm in JROTC freshmen in highschool I wasn't sure about it at first I felt like I needed the class to humble me and to dicsipline me our instructor made "senior classmates" due pushups but not the news classmates. looked alot of fun or instructor even said we get to go on field trips once a month and do after school stuff. but our instructor one day in class told us "raise your hand if you want to get out of jrotc" a couple of people raised their hand like about 7 than he said the same thing the next day in class but this time i raised my hand. the reason why im leaving jrotc i is because i dont think im ready my school like can only be as good as my home life i have to much to do right now I just believe the class is going to ask to much out of me. and also money cost and stuff for uniforms
I am sorry for your experience. I hope the instructor explained that you don't pay for the uniform. While you might occasionally have to pay for your own food during an event, there shouldn't be costs for participation. You made the best decision for yourself. Best wishes!
@@FromNestToWings Thank you sir
I was the executive officer in my unit, orienteering captain and academic team captain. I was so passionate about it. My instructor was like a father to me. Although we suspect some sort of mental decline, he bullied me out of the unit for asking questions about his orders and advocating for things he forgot about (like awards). When I say he lost his mind, he texted me and another female student drunk, yelled at me for over two hours (I recorded it), threatened to remove every position I earned because I told someone I was frustrated about the situation, and had blatant favoritism for another student. Whos word he took at face value and bent his own rules to put in certain positions. This happened this past year and I am still really hurt and upset over it. The school allowed me and my sister to leave because they thought we would sue, but kept him in his position. A few weeks ago he started targeting another student who asked about something that seemed a little off and he instantly removed her from operations officer, drill commander, and all other ranks. I LOVED this program but I am so upset over what happened. I don’t even have anyone to talk about it with. It has messed with my head since.
I’m starting JROTC in 4 months as I’m in 8th grade currently. I have been doing research lately about this program. I’m wondering if you try your best in the freshman year what rank could you get in jrotc? and also is there a minimum requirement to become a staff such as s1, s2, s3, s4, s5.

I have a few questions, sorry...
1) what kind of drills do we do for MCJROTC?
2) I'm a bit afraid of the DI'S during inspections, how should I cope with that?
3) do we still have PT for armed drill team?
I'm sorry I'm only in middle school right now but interested in JROTC. Thank you for your time, Sir.
I am an Army JROTC teacher so I don't have much experience with the Marine Corps JROTC program's specific drills. I suggest you contact the instructors at the high school and ask them to describe their program to you. They can address if their school does PT at the JROTC level or if they do such for the drill team. It sounds as if you have some notion of what you think happens in that program. Ask questions to find out if reality is even close to your expectations. JROTC strives to help students grow and become better leaders. There is no reason to be afraid. Do your best in everything you attempt and you will be surprised how well things turn out! As for nerves during inspections, focus on the details and you will be fine. Listen when uniform instruction is provided, take pride in how you present yourself, and listen carefully to any adjustments that need to be made. You will be successful!
Thank you so much!! I will try my hardest!!

I’m going into 9th grade next year and I’m am joining jrotc. I am doing this because I want to one day be in the military and follow in the footsteps of a lot of my family members. I found this video very helpful, and I thank you for that, but I do have a question: usually how many times a week is jrotc (I go to punahou school in Hawaii) and what are some of the physical requirements??
Congratulations on your decision to join JROTC! The number of meetings a week will depend on your school's class schedule. Check with the high school counselors or the instructors at the high school to see how they have scheduled the class. You could do this by email. Generally, JROTC programs do not have physical requirements for joining the class and the extent of the physical fitness work they do each week is up to the instructors so that would be a great question to tack on to your email about when the class meets. The instructors will be happy to help you. If you can't find their email information on the school's website, call the front office. Best wishes!

My freshman year of high school starts in about two weeks, and I chose NJROTC as one of my classes. I'm training for my years to come as a fighter pilot, and this is my first step. I'm considering joining the armed drill team and seeing if there's any other teams I may be interested in. I'm somewhat nervous because I know I'll be breaking my comfort zone not just in NJORTC but in my other extracurricular and academics. But I've always been told that the comfort zone is dangerous.
As long as you are willing to listen, learn, and help others you will be great. Have fun!

Njrotc is the best class
I don’t plan on going into the military, but I’m a rising 9th grader. I think JROTC would be good for me, but I get conflicting viewpoints on the class. Some absolutely love it, but people outside of the class are glad they never joined. I’m a girl and I don’t even know if this is right for me but I think I could benefit a lot from JROTC. I don’t know what to do
We suggest you talk to two or three women who are in the program now and ask them about what they have gained from JROTC. They will have a fist hand account from the inside. We suspect that will be more valuable than the view of those outside. Those in the class will be willing to tell you what their experience has been. The vast majority of JROTC students do not go on to serve in the military. Best wishes!

The best advice we can give is to get to know the student leadership and the instructors in your program. Join a team to meet new people. I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I cannot find the answer anywhere. If you do JROTC and either enlist in a different branch of the military or become an officer in a different branch of the military (by doing ROTC or going to a military academy) do you still get advantages (as in usually enlisting as a higher rank in the enlist route or becoming more competitive in gaining a ROTC scholarship or higher competitiveness in a military academy route)? TLDR; Would an Air Force JROTC student that joins the air force have the same advantages as an Air Force JROTC student that joins the Army? Either way, I have already obtained my schedule and no matter the answer, look forward to doing JROTC soon.
I will try to be clear in this answer, but if it leaves any questions, please ask!
For the enlisted route, JROTC involvement for multiple years (generally 3) will result in a higher rank being conferred upon enlistment. It does not matter what branch was represented in your JROTC program or which branch you join upon enlistment.
For the service academies or ROTC scholarships, there is no specific guarantee of placement. However, if you demonstrate quality academics and involvement in high school, coupled with leadership as a part of JROTC you put yourself in a very strong position for selection to either officer preparation opportunity. JROTC is a respected leadership development program that is valued by those making ROTC and Service Academy selections. Again, the branch of your JROTC program has no bearing on your selection to any other branch service academy or ROTC program.
Make the most of your JROTC experience and it will serve you well no matter what branch or role you pursue in the military...and beyond.
Good luck!
question if I join my high school jrotc it's for the army once i graduate high school can I join a different branch?
Absolutely! There is no commitment to any particular branch by participating in any JROTC program. You are welcome to join any service you wish and qualify for after graduation. Ask your instructors to help you contact recruiters and see if participation in JROTC earns you any benefit as you join any of the services. Good luck
Just do it, there's no reason to not. If you're reading this and still choose not too, just do it.
So I’m doing JROTC this year, but I cannot do push-ups to save my life, and I assume they are on the PT exam. Are there any tips I could follow?
Push-ups are not a part of the Presidential Fitness Assessment used by JROTC and many PE classes. You can work on your fitness as a part of JRTOC. Just ask your instructors for assistance and your fellow cadets for the encouragement!
Bravo company hooah
If you do things like orchestra, will you have time for it if you do JROTC (specifically NJROTC)?
You should be fine. Speak with both instructors to let them know you need to balance the commitments. It is not unusual for JROTC cadets to play sports at all levels, be involved in a variety of activities, and do all kinds of music and performance arts. Open communication is the key! Best wishes!
If I did this in high school, would I be able to join the military as an officer or do I have to do rotc in college for that? Also if I do this in high school would I get a higher pay and rank if I was enlisted and couldn’t join as an officer?
If you participate in JROTC in high school, you are generally allowed to enter the military at a higher enlisted grade(higher rank and more money). Check with your JROTC Instructors about how that would impact your future. Those who are successful in ROTC at the college level enter the military as officers.
I’m a 3rd year leading is scary but not to bad
Joining JROTC next year if I can't this year. I'll be sixteen then, and plan on joining the army when I graduate at 18. Do any military personnel know how becoming a field medic works? Or how exactly you select a specialty? Or will the recruiters or basic training instructors tell you how it works?
We are glad to hear you will take advantage of the program soon. As for finding the best specialty (MOS - Military Occupational Specialty) for you, do some research online, speak with your JROTC instructors, and then talk with military recruiters. It is also suggested that you ask around to see if there is anyone your instructors, family, church, or community know who spent time in that MOS and can help you understand precisely what is involved in the job! Good luck!
@@FromNestToWings Thank you very much!
Do you have to wear your uniform in front of regular students who aren't part of JROTC?
Generally, there is one day a week when JROTC students wear their uniforms to school. The uniform is worn to all classes on that day unless you are in a class that requires a different outfit (think dressing out for gym class). The uniform is provided by the JROTC program. There are also programs during which the uniform is to be worn. Programs such as color guards, competitions, or representing JROTC during school-based events. Those programs will be identified by your instructors.
what is the most difficult part of JROTC? and how can i reduce my anxiety for the class?
The level of difficulty by skill will be different for each student. But, no matter what skills challenge you, there are student leaders and instructors there to help. So, to reduce your anxiety, our best suggestion is that you recognize the value of being able to ask for help when you need it. That is a life skill that will serve you well in JROTC and beyond!
@@FromNestToWings okay that may help actually thank you and God bless
Is there any good non school alternatives for Army JROTC?
Try the Young Marines, Civil Air Patrol, or Sea Cadet Program. They are not school-related but have many of the same characteristics.
