R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 . Ann was a big Nightwish Fan. And every new person who listened to NW, she went through a little chat. And gave them some info about NW. This was her favorite song. And this song belongs to her. I like very much that Gabriel have continue Ann s work.... so her heritage is still here.
Favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff, mother of the Nightwish army. 🕯 Inspired by the 19th century 52 chapter poem of the same name by Walt Whitman. The studio version has a spoken poem section at the end, written by Tuomas in an ode to the original, and voiced by friends and family of the band. Those words are what you see on the big screen behind the band. This song is Anette era, from the Imaginaerum album. It was #14 of 15 in this setlist, right after Ghost Love Score. Floor had been with the band about 10 months here at Wacken. Her 1st Nightwish concert was Oct 1, 2012 in Seattle. Wacken is the 1st weekend in August. The keyboard decoration is a tribute to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, and made to resemble the Sibelius monument in Helsinki. The correct speed references the Blu-ray version of this concert , which was manufactured with an error in it making playback about 4% slower than it should be. And no, Floor is not single. She is married to Hannes van Dahl, drummer for Sabaton.
Floors first show was actually in the States. See the documentary "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 hours" This was Floors first introduction to European fans as she replaced Annette to finish the U.S. tour, then South America, & Australia the previous year. This was the start of the European leg of the tour. She had only been with them 10 months and still not "Officially" a permanent replacement until a couple months after this, as well as the multi instrumentalust Troy joined at the same time; he had been a studio musician for them for a number of years. P.s. the surround for Tuomas' keyboards is really just an elaborate Wine Holder LoL!
Keyboard decoration is a tribute to the Sibelius monument which is in Helsinki, Finland. Not 100% replica, but pretty close. Jean Sibelius was a famous Finnish composer and his symphonies are still played around the world today. In a way, Tuomas (keys) is a modern day Sibelius.
The show was filmed at 25fps (standard for European video) and released on DVD at that speed, but for some stupid reason BluRay doesn’t support 25fps playback so the whole thing was slowed by 4% to 24fps (cinema standard) without getting pitch-corrected. So versions ripped from the BluRay are roughly a semi-tone off, hence someone then correcting it back and adding “correct speed” to the video titles.
Nightwish during 2013-2020 era was the tightest best live band on the planet. If you saw them during that time, you saw a once in a lifetime experience
they really hit the jackpot when floor joined and at wacken she allready knew she was a permanent member but the crowd didnt yet it shows the fun they have with this gig
There is an interview of Tuomas and Marco telling that they have enjoyed most bow people took Floor in as a NW member, eventho she was in this point being in NW band only 9-10 months. After this tour Floor Jansen and Troy Donockley were made full member's. Hello from Finland
You should react to some of Wembley 2015, it is one of their best concerts: 7 Days To The Wolves, Yours Is An Empty Hope, My Walden, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Nemo, and the song may fans consider their masterpiece: The Poet and the Pendulum.
Nightwish Army south Brittany France reporting. And there forever remains the change from G to Em RIP Ann Edit, Tarya never sang this, its from Annette's time with the band.
Hello Rough Boyz. This song is one of the great Nightwish metal sounds. Very nice reaction by all of you. If you haven't seen them live, you need to correct that. Carol, my lovely wife of 42 years and I had the wonderful opportunity to travel from Phoenix to see them perform live at the historic Warfield Theatre in San Francisco on May 18, 2022. The show was amazing and the crowd was wonderful from standing in line outside until the end of the show. Thank you.
Great reaction guys. Floor had been with the band about 10 months here, mainly touring in North and South America. Wacken Open Air was Floor's coming out party for Nightwish's massive European fan base. They had played a few small European shows but this was her first big festival with the band. Many of the fans knew Floor from her previous bands After Forever and Revamp but were excited to hear how Floor and Nightwish would sound together. Like you noticed she strode out on to the stage and just held the audience in the palm of her hand. Floor was already an experienced singer having started in her first band After Forever in 1997 at the age of sixteen. In fact Nightwish knew Floor personally because After Forever had toured as an opening act for Nightwish in 2002 and Marko and Floor had sung together as guest singers in a Delain concert in 2009. ua-cam.com/video/hHtJsiLAkM4/v-deo.htmlsi=rqK2FG5j4Po1EpgY. Definitely worth checking out younger Floor with After Forever (Monolith of Doubt, Dreamflight, or Energize Me are great songs with videos on YT) and her dark angry phase with Revamp. After Forever had fallen apart right as they were about to break through and she had an ugly painful break up with her boyfriend of 7 years who was also the lead guitarist and one of the founders of After Forever. Revamp was her band and she wrote all the music and did all the management as well. Disdain, Wild Card, Misery's No Crime, and Trial of Monsters are very heavy and Floor even brings her new Death Metal growls on some songs. Sweet Curse is a beautiful ballad about the duality of love.
Tuomas found his shangri-la when Floor joined Nightwish. The "Gold Standard" live particularly with Floor for my eyes and ears, that's Nightwish. Thank you gents for a great reaction to this thumping rollercoaster, one of so many. 👌😊
Tuomas Holopainen did want Floor Jansen already in 2004, but she was stil her original band After Forever. So he had to find another lead singer, who he found in Anette Olson. Floor Janse did take over during the tour 2012 in the United States, when Anette Olson did leave the band. (reasons see the documentary Learn the set list in 48 hours). Floor Jansens band After Forever did not exist anymore at that time, she had been recovering from a Burn Out, the moment that Nightwish contacted her to fill in the lead singer postition for the rest of the World Tour Imaginerium 2012/2013. What resulted in staying the lead singer of Nightwish. Like Tuomas would liked to have done in 2004.
One thing I noticed about Jukka's drum kit setup is that his snare drum is tilted so that the front edge is lower than the back edge. I don't think he could hit the rim in front if he tried. But you're right, I've never heard him hit a stick or any of the rims, unintentionally. He's a dynamic drummer, to be sure. His replacement, Kai Hahto, is an excellent drummer as well, but Jukka seemed to play with more emotion and flair. Love 'em both. Great reaction, guys!
Great group reaction guys. Nightwish in my opinion is the only metal band where all their songs are just so "listenable" be they symphonic or heavy metal.
I concur... there are a bunch of other technically fabulous symphonic metal bands out there which have their fanbase... but to me they sound like a bit hollow and at worst OVERLY pretentious...
Floor Jansen's first concert with Nightwish was October 1, 2012, in Seattle. She was at her sister's wedding when Nightwish called her. She was a little annoyed to be called in the middle of a wedding but when she found out she was being asked to replace Anette Olzon on vocals, she jumped at the chance, accepted and jumped on the plane to the USA. Of course, having a female singer helps to attract the female audience, but I think Nightwish's music helps as well. It is not constantly aggressive. I remember speaking an old girlfriend about Nightwish. She was doubtful because she doesn't particularly like Metal. Rock yes, but not Metal. She was pleasantly surprised when she listened to Nightwish and immediately bought “Highest Hopes”.
Hey guys, another nice one. 👍 Chris made a good point ,that Nightwish/Floor atracs more females (Tarja and Annette also) to the metal realm, very understandable,Nightwish is not as agressive looking or having lyrics that are, well, not very friendly😆or does radiate macho culture.I worked as a sound and light tech in the late 70s and 80s and in theater in the 90s , always had female colleagues and i could feel the difference when i only worked with males, more a friendly and just better atmosphere.I'm not a small guy and ofcourse i like to drink some beers with my male friends, but,i NEVER liked macho behaviour (agressive) when males are in large groups and have to prove "something".The more mixed groups seem to have a more "balanced" impact on me. Nightwish is also special in the metal scene because of the big fan-base of ALL ages, don't see that a lot in "metal". greetings from Spain.🤘
#1 Internet question about Floor: "How tall is she?" #2 Question: "Is she single?" 1: About 6'1" before she puts on those 4" heels. 2: She's married to Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer for Sabaton (who's 6'4" in his bare feet.)
Great. Yes 2013 was good year for Nightwish. Watch also their recent performances. Hellfest 2022, Deichbrand 2022 or Masters of rock 2022. I think Deichbrand 2022 festival is maybe best visual and audio, but it is only available from Nightwish Library fan page channel "Nightwish Live at Deichbrand Festival 2022"
The song is A Tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman 1819-1892.(one of the co-founders of US poetry). The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended official studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. These lines you can also see fast flahing on the ledscreen of the video you just saw. Bucle up, it goes very deep. " I see a slow, simple youngster by a busy street With a begging bowl in his shaking hand Trying to smile but hurting infinitely Nobody notices I do, but walk by An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic It's half-light and he's in tears When he finally comes his eyes are cascading I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley He tries to bite me All pride has left his wild drooling eyes I wish I had my leg to spare A mother visits her son, Smiles to him through the bars She's never loved him more An obese girl enters an elevator with me All dressed up fancy A green butterfly on her neck Terribly sweet perfume deafens me She's going to dinner alone That makes her even more beautiful I see a model's face on a brick wall A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill A city that worships flesh The first thing I ever heard Was a wandering man telling his story It was you, the grass under my bare feet The campfire in the dead of the night The heavenly black of sky and sea It was us Roaming the rainy roads Combing the gilded beaches Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn Bathing in places no-one's seen before Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island Clad in nothing but the surf Beauty's finest robe Beyond all mortality we are Swinging in the breath of nature In early air of the dawn of life A sight to silence the heavens I want to travel where life travels Following its permanent lead Where the air tastes like snow music Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture I would bathe in a world of sensation Love, Goodness, and Simplicity (While violated and imprisoned by technology) The thought of my family's graves was the only moment I used to experience true love That love remains infinite As I'll never be the man my father is How can you "just be yourself" When you don't know who you are? Stop saying "I know how you feel" How could anyone know how another feels? Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer? I am, you are, all of them already Dear child, stop working, go play Forget every rule There's no fear in a dream "Is there a village inside this snowflake?" A child asked me "What's the color of our lullaby?" I've never been so close to truth as then I touched its silver lining Death is the winner in any war Nothing noble in dying for your religion For your country For ideology, for faith For another man, yes Paper is dead without words Ink idle without a poem All the world dead without stories Without love and disarming beauty Careless realism costs souls Ever seen the Lord smile? All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man? Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks? Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground I see all those empty cradles and wonder If man will ever change I, too, wish to be a decent manboy But all I am Is smoke and mirrors Still given everything, may I be deservin And there forever remains That change from G to E minor. "
If you want to continue Wacken 2013 I highly recomment the opener "dark chest of wonders" it is chefs kiss, but also "bless the child" and "last ride of the day" are awesome ❤ But I concur to other comments: there are so many beautiful and breathtaking other live performances from Nightwish: Shudder before the beautiful live at Wembley, 7 days to the wolves live at Wembley, Of course TPATP live at Wembley, Weak fantasy live at Tampere, The greatest show on earth live at Tampere (you have to listen until the whole video is over and I recomment lyrics!), I want my tears back live at Buenos aires, "Shoemaker" live at Hellfest .... I could go on and on 😊
There are a few nice documentarys ,like Please learn the setlist in 48 hours And Making the album Endless forms most beautifull Amazing insides how Floor gets into the band.
@Boyz: Still missing EPICA!!! You will listen to the siren of Metal Simone Simons. AND IF YOU NEED Floor to start them > "Sancta Terra" Retrospect live. But you should start with, for ex "Beyond the Matrix" Zenth live. Another fantastic women in Metal is Sharon del Abel from Within Temptation. 3rd bombastic Symphonic Metal Band next to NW and Epica. A MUST SEE too. They published "Bleed Out" only a few days ago. The best one to start is "Mother Earth" live Metropole Orchestra. And then you still have missed, Anneke van Giersbergen, Elize Ryd, Alissa White-Gluz, Brittney Slayes etc 😃😃😃
For more "spooky" nightwish i request scaretale live, with their 2nd singer Anette. PS: No Floor isn't single. She is married to Sabaton's drummer Hannes van Dahl. Btw, Sabaton is another great band to discover.
Another great reaction guys! Per your discussion at the end, my personal favorite from Wacken 2013 is this one, "Song of Myself." "Ghost Love Score" gets all the hype (deservedly so), mostly because of Floor's vocals, but this one is so epic in a very heavy way, as you talked about. Favorite overall is "The Greatest Show on Earth" live at Tampere, which I trust you'll get to at some point.
Floor was with the band for a few months at this point she was still a temporary replacement for the previous singer who left in the middle of the tour in the USA and she had to replace her and learn all the songs of the set list in 48 hours. so it's amazing looking at her here because it's like she was with them for years.
Nice raection! "When Nightwish ist going hard, ...! We're all waiting for the upcoming album! They already predicted that IT will be ... heavy! So , we'll see 🤘🤘🤘
When I am asked what my favourite Nightwish song is I often reply “whatever song I’m currently listening to.” However I find myself selecting this one the most!
About a year ago, reactors were reacting to some Nightwish songs and were finding versions that someone had either increased the tempo/speed for some reason or someone was trying that to get past youtube so the video wouldn't get banned. Not sure which, though Nightwish is not one of the bands that I ever seen reactors have difficulty with concerning UA-cam. :) So perhaps that's what you're seeing with the note concerning speed? Not sure.
As for it being Floor's first performance with the band, she had been with them about 6 mo. at the time this was recorded. Something like that. I'm sure someone will correct me with the exact amount of time she had been with them. I suggest the documentary "Learn the setlist in 48 hours" which tells the story of how she joined the band as their 3rd singer. Yes, it is on UA-cam.
here`s a thought, dudes, call it ROCK, without the sub genres. I know separate everything now days, but Ya`ll seem above that. thanks for the vid from Colorado
Greetings. Nightwish started their Imaginaerum World Tour with a secret show in Seattle, Washington. The tour consisted of 104 parties in 34 countries and attended by 1.5 million fans. Coincidentally, Floor's debut with Nightwish came almost in the middle of the tour and wouldn't you know it.... on October 1st 2012 in Seattle, Washington. The party at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany came on August 3rd 2013 and by then Floor had performed in more than half the parties on the tour, that's well over 50. In case you're wondering... yes, I call them Nightwish parties. Not shows, not concerts, but parties. 🤘 Safe to say that during the 2nd half of that tour, fans got an amazing surprise when they saw Floor come out instead of Anette Olzon (2007-2012). From October 1st 2012, in my opinion, anyone who attended the Imaginaerum World Tour in any part of the world, won the lottery that day! I mean c'mon, how could you disagree after witnessing THIS party? When it comes to Floor and Tarja (1996-2005), it's not very difficult to tell one from the other. Tarja, for the most part, is full operatic in style and sound and doesn't change much from one song to the next. This is where Floor excells because although she IS classically trained, she has the entire vocal arsenal at her disposal, and you can take that literally. She truly is the whole package and then some! Or as a DJ put it, in more than one occasion in his reaction videos, "she really IS a freak of nature!". Some may argue that she could be from another planet. lol But yeah, that's my take on Tarja and Floor. Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤️🤘🤘 PS:- If you haven't yet, check out Floor singing with a very famous singer she happened to graduate with from the same classical training class in 2003. They are extremely close and her name is Simone Simons. The band is Epica and the song is Sancta Terra, live at Retrospect. Hope to see your reaction.
You don't have to see Nightwish live anymore. Wacken 2013 is the best concert...the best songs, the best band members, the best crowd, the best everything. My personal opinion.
This is good but not to compare with the original. The original sound with Tarjas hounting operatic singing combined with symphonic metal is the big thing! This sounds good but more like a mainstream rock band. The dark gothic hounting vibes are totally gone. You can’t replace perfection, no matter what. 👊👊👊
Floor auditioned for the band and was turned down in 2006 in favor of Anette Olzon. Anette ran into problems late 2012 and was replaced by Floor who had 3 days before appearing with the band. This was late 2013 so Floor had been with them almost a year at this time.
It's funny you guys saying Metal was a sausage fest 10 years ago. when I first got in to Metal around 1980, then it was a serious sausage fest 🤣🤣 But these days (and probably for the last 20 years or so in Europe), Metal has been far more welcoming to the female consumer. To give you an idea, I attended Bloodstock festival (UK) a couple of months ago, and while it wasn't a 50/50 male female split, I'd wager it wasn't far off 60/40, and Bloodstock is a serious Metal festival, there are no lightweight acts at all. Great reaction guys 🙂
Life is too short, so I only watch Nightwish (with floor) reactions now - Nightwish Army Vancouver, BC Canadian Division reporting

Nice to hear Floor singing in a deeper register. She sounds so powerful. And then combined with Marco: a match made in heaven.

Floor had been with Nightwish for about 9 months before this Wacken performance. This is definitely one of their most epic concerts.
2015 Wembley and 2018 Buenos Aires are just as epic. I love em all
Floor joined in October 2012. She had made a number of shows before Wacken 2023 but wasn't yet an ordinary member of the band.

Trying to smile but hurting infinitely
Nobody notices
I do, but walk by
An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic
It's half-light and he's in tears
When he finally comes his eyes are cascading
I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley
He tries to bite me
All pride has left his wild drooling eyes
I wish I had my leg to spare
A mother visits her son,
Smiles to him through the bars
She's never loved him more
An obese girl enters an elevator with me
All dressed up fancy
A green butterfly on her neck
Terribly sweet perfume deafens me
She's going to dinner alone
That makes her even more beautiful
I see a model's face on a brick wall
A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill
A city that worships flesh
The first thing I ever heard
Was a wandering man telling his story
It was you, the grass under my bare feet
The campfire in the dead of the night
The heavenly black of sky and sea
It was us
Roaming the rainy roads
Combing the gilded beaches
Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn
Bathing in places no-one's seen before
Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island
Clad in nothing but the surf
Beauty's finest robe
Beyond all mortality we are
Swinging in the breath of nature
In early air of the dawn of life
A sight to silence the heavens
I want to travel where life travels
Following its permanent lead
Where the air tastes like snow music
Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden
I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture
I would bathe in a world of sensation
Love, Goodness, and Simplicity
(While violated and imprisoned by technology)
The thought of my family's graves was the only moment
I used to experience true love
That love remains infinite
As I'll never be the man my father is
How can you "just be yourself"
When you don't know who you are?
Stop saying "I know how you feel"
How could anyone know how another feels?
Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer?
I am, you are, all of them already
Dear child, stop working, go play
Forget every rule
There's no fear in a dream
"Is there a village inside this snowflake?"
A child asked me
"What's the color of our lullaby?"
I've never been so close to truth as then
I touched its silver lining
Death is the winner in any war
Nothing noble in dying for your religion
For your country
For ideology, for faith
For another man, yes
Paper is dead without words
Ink idle without a poem
All the world dead without stories
Without love and disarming beauty
Careless realism costs souls
Ever seen the Lord smile?
All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man?
Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks?
Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is
All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground
I see all those empty cradles and wonder
If man will ever change
I, too, wish to be a decent manboy
But all I am
Is smoke and mirrors
Still given everything, may I be deservin
And there forever remains
That change from G to E minor. "
If you want to continue Wacken 2013 I highly recomment the opener "dark chest of wonders" it is chefs kiss, but also "bless the child" and "last ride of the day" are awesome ❤
But I concur to other comments: there are so many beautiful and breathtaking other live performances from Nightwish:
Shudder before the beautiful live at Wembley,
7 days to the wolves live at Wembley,
Of course TPATP live at Wembley,
Weak fantasy live at Tampere,
The greatest show on earth live at Tampere (you have to listen until the whole video is over and I recomment lyrics!),
I want my tears back live at Buenos aires,
"Shoemaker" live at Hellfest
....
I could go on and on 😊
There are a few nice documentarys ,like Please learn the setlist in 48 hours
And Making the album Endless forms most beautifull
Amazing insides how Floor gets into the band.
For a spooky Nightwish live performance go for Annette's era Scaretale it's a Halloween essential.
Marcela Bovio.
For more "spooky" nightwish i request scaretale live, with their 2nd singer Anette.
PS: No Floor isn't single. She is married to Sabaton's drummer Hannes van Dahl.
Btw, Sabaton is another great band to discover.
Great video guys
Have you ever watch Apocalyptica or Korpiklaani? Allso from Finland
Saw them live many times, they sound so good live! No mistakes, Floor sings flawless. I love this band
Tarja and Floor are both top notch vocalists with different styles. People should just enjoy them both.
Just two words: Walt Whitman.
Yes, Tarja Turunen was original singer, second was Anette Olzon ja now Floor Jansen
Agree, “ when nightwish gets metal is the best”
they topped Ghost Love Score ... but i won´t tell you the songs, you will come to them soon enough
Yes, that's pretty fucking awesome!
Wacken is generally sold out a year in advance. As a result, this was not the singer NW fans were expecting - she was MUCH better.
I miss Marko, he is a legend himself.
🤘🤘
Great china work from Jukka there. I saw them live this Summer. Consistent is the right word. Even when Floor was about 6 months of pregnant. 😎👍
🤩👍💥💯🎼
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
Great pic!
One of my favorites ❣️❣️❣️
No they were using the blu-ray edition which for some weird reason was running 4% faster. They corrected it for the official videos.
There are slowed down videos too 😵
🤘
❤ nice reaction gyys 👌🎯...though Wheres the english subtitles ???
It would seem that if you upload from a Blu-ray disc it uploads about 6% slow. No idea why.
Floors first live performens ? are you joking she was gread on stage sinds she was 17 !!!!!!!!!!
Cinematic Metal? Hmmm, Nice! 🤪
Sadly Floor is not single anymore my man :) She would be a steal though if she was :D
Dream wife for sure.😊
Dream wife found dream hubby: the drummer from Sabaton, Hannes van Dahl 😊
Thanks
here`s a thought, dudes, call it ROCK, without the sub genres. I know separate everything now days, but Ya`ll seem above that. thanks for the vid from Colorado
👍👍
😁🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯🤘
And Pliiiiiiiiis, audio vol 🔛🔝🔊 ty 💙🇫🇮
This song is sooo good!🔥
Can't believe you cut the ending of the song off!!!!
Safe to say that during the 2nd half of that tour, fans got an amazing surprise when they saw Floor come out instead of Anette Olzon (2007-2012).
Some may argue that she could be from another planet. lol
But yeah, that's my take on Tarja and Floor.
Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed.
😊❤️🤘🤘
PS:-
If you haven't yet, check out Floor singing with a very famous singer she happened to graduate with from the same classical training class in 2003.
They are extremely close and her name is Simone Simons. The band is Epica and the song is Sancta Terra, live at Retrospect.
Hope to see your reaction.
Floor and Simone were NEVER at the same institution. They are 4 yesrs apart in age
@@richardwest6358 And who told you that you had to be same age as everyone else to be in a singing class?? 😂
@@ytcag2007 Floor has repeatedly denied this and also repeats that they NEVER SHARED a flat together
Its a silibus, after the Finnish organ player
👍👍😎😎🤘🤘
Nightwish -Bless The Child official video. Tarja Turunen.
Wacken 2013 much better
@@nicod1361 There is room for Tarja & Floor singers in my world.
