- On this episode of The Ed Clay Show Ed sits down with America's most beloved stuntman, skateboarder, and professional jackass Bam Margera!
Hear from the wildman himself how getting healthy and back into skateboarding has turned his life around. Bam opens up about his journey to sobriety, some of the major life lessons he has learned along the way, and shares some of the mindset strategies that he has used throughout the years to perform all of the incredible stunts that we all came to know and love.
Bam shares some of his newfound hobbies such as his love for reading, astrology, and shamanism. We get a peek into the mind of a major celebrity and how one deals with the fame and attention that comes with the status. Bam also shares some of the craziest stories he has from getting beat up by a UFC fighter in Australia to taking his purple Lamborghini to North Korea.
Finally, we hear how helping others is the sure path to feeling good and some of the recent initiatives Bam has become involved with.

There’s a horrible irony here. When we were all young, he provided us a beautiful outlet to all of our structured lives. He showed us chaos and anarchy as a wonderful escape for all of us trapped in the monotony of life. And now 20 years later we’re all watching the reverse effect. This is what it looks like when you’ve never powered through the pain and monotony of a predictably structured life. He’s missing the context we all have built up to survive this life. I feel for him and I wish him the best.

@@DravenCruz his impact on skating certainly matters, the $40 million is just an indication of that. Like Nietzsche said "One must have chaos within oneself to give birth to a dancing star". Without that chaos, Bam would not have become the cultural juggernaut he was.

Don't wanna sound pessimistic or be a grumpy cat or what not. But I wouldn't put this label of 'having flipped it all' quite yet.
He seems still very excessive and not as balanced as the other two. Also I feel like he's not 100 percent sincere, since he also tends to blame the world a lot just in general. But still, I'm very glad to see him like that. This is the best we've seen him in like forever!
Physically he is doing better but mentally he is still in the same place he was years ago. No accountability, rambles like an immature child.

He got sober 2 months after I did from fent. You can’t blame everyone and should acknowledge that you gotta problem, he sounds so much better and so much more happy, but he’s gotta do this for himself and have his people support him which they are. Hope he stays sober.

Oh man, I don't know if I can say he seems sober. The video of him surfing with Stevo-O he definitely seemed sober. Even when he was living in Spain for a while, he was too nervous to announce he and his girl were expecting a baby. It was genuine. I don't know. Alcohol is a mess to get off of. He seems about 3 notches away from being exactly how he's been lately when he's drunk.
Take into account that he is also Bipolar. Having lived with family with bipolar they have some days where they are just down and quite and want to be alone and then other days they are over excited and full of energy.
He definitely is not sober that's why he's wearing the sunglasses. Pretty sure he is tweeked out here, maybe it's the Adderall

Good to see Bam in a good place nowadays, I'm almost 30 and he's the inspiration for me to pick up a board back when I was 8-9. The Castle is bout a half hour drive from where I live and I've spent countless hours at FDR bustin my ass more often than not, watched literally EVERY single thing he's filmed multiple times over. My first board was one of his Element decks set up wit Venture trucks, Bonez Redz bearings, Spitfire wheels and Lucky risers that I prized more than any other possession I had. Thanks Bam for all the years of laughs and inspiration, wish the absolute best of health, luck and most positive of vibes to ya

Answer me this and I don't wish anything bad for him. How in the hell can you say you're on the right path when you've spent the last 8 months on the road? The right thing to do would be to lay down some roots so you can create some stability in your life. That's how you see your son again. Not Bam though. Throwing yourself into a sport like skateboarding is great until it's taken away due to injury or other unforeseen circumstances. Sobriety is a journey and it takes as long as it takes to get it. For most addicts, relapse is part of their story and Bam is no different. It's never too late and just like skating, if you fall off you have to get back up. I hope that he can stay clean and as long as he stays plugged in with the right people, he definitely has a shot at it. We all deserve peace and I hope Bam finally found his.

As much as we love this guy for making our child hood. I don’t think he will ever change. He is what he is. He made millions acting like this. And we loved him for it. Now he continues to be the same guy. But everyone grew up and he didn’t. So now everyone judges him. And he doesn’t understand why. To top it off. They keep making those jackass movies. And they keep making money off it. So to him it only makes sense to be this guy. Like he said himself. He never had a 9-5 he doesn’t know how to function properly / Normal .
I'm not defending bam margera, however having a 9 to 5 (which I do as well) is worse than his fate. We just work our lives away and are no body and will be forgotten. Though this guy seems to never grow up. He has achieved much success and has inspired others to pursue skateboarding and will be remembered for years to come. Meanwhile us 9 to 5 people go punch in and clock out and live the same life as many before us and after us.

You should view this as a cautionary tale and have no expectations from bam. If you are sober, stay there! You’re already free to go! But Bam is absolutely 100% on crunk ass stimulants way overboard.
@@Jiu-Jitsu-Robot I could tell. I think he even said at one point he was taking Adderall. I know that isn't sobriety but I did the exact same thing with Modafinil for the first couple months after quitting alcohol. It's not technically sobriety but it was a useful crutch while I learned to exist without drinking. It was a process and I think he will be alright in the long run.

The first line in the opening that Bam says is the first time I've heard him do two things- 1. Not blame everyone else and admit he was the one that had the problem which is a big step in recovery. 2. Says that he actually wants to be clean when before he would claim he didn't have a problem with drinking. Don't get me wrong he still sounds a little like he hasn't completely admitted to himself that everyone wasn't sending him to rehab to hurt him. But again he does sound like he's finally getting with whatever program is working for him to stay clean.

I want to give Bam the biggest hug, dude is making me so proud, I grew up watching him, everyone thought he was crazy but he knew what he was doing and had reasons for doing it, but his new girl saved him and she deserves all the happiness.

This is big. Some serious wisdon being shown right here. You can tell he's still early sobriety by the way he speaks but that doesn't take away from the fact a lot of its right. Treatment is for the physical. Detox, rehab, etc. That's all well and good and its an incredible tool but then when you leave, you're still you....and BAM is fucked (I say that so lovingly) The problem isn't solved. For most of us as addicts, structure is foreign to us and its SO FUCKING CRUCIAL to the recovery process. He talks about having something to live for and his kid being his main reason for sobriety which is great to hear but really you've got to do it for you before anything else. That was the only concerning part but its very possible that's what he means when he says that. Either way, this is the beginning of a MAJOR fucking victory story here and I. am. here. for. it. Fight is not over but I wish him all the best moving forward.
