vehicle was in an accident which missed the crash bar behind the front bumper and hit the sensor for the front air bags.
decided it best to strip the engine out of the vehicle as would be too costly to repair the vehicle back to a roadworthy condition.
The MK3 is the "sweet spot" car era. Easy to work like the old ones but with a strong chassis and shell, improved components and safety from the "modern era".
Just think Alan, In 30 years time people would give their eye teeth for that shell. Just like they are now for MK 3 cortinas.

Felt that way when I cut up a Lexus LS400 once. We knew it was wrong but a certain woman dictated the car had to go, and the owner wanted the engine for something else.
Only a Mondeo would still drive and run in that condition
I presume that Ford build them faster than it takes to dismantle. I have a 16 year old Mk 3 2L petrol Estate. It is massive.. Love it and still works and got 12 months MOT the other day.

I watched your some of videos. You are funny and very passionate. I want to repair my car myself for some trouble. I love Ford cars. But in here, mean in Turkiye, mechanics or servicemen are very tough men. It is impossible to agree with them. Passion is a little lacking. And Some parts are hard to find. Your videos are usefull and helpfull for me.

Mk3 one of the best cars on the road
I’ve had a MK3 and MK4, the MK3 was good but the MK4 was a big improvement and more reliable. The MK3 had 240,000 miles when I sold it and the Mk4 currently has 205,000 miles
Built Ford Mondeo tough has a crash and still runs perfectly fine
It's actually easier to remove those engines from the top when it's an automatic. Once the starter's out, you can then remove the drive plate bolts rotating the engine as you go, and the engine will lift straight up leaving the box in place. In your case you wanted the box out too but if it was just an engine swap, then that's the way to do it.

You really love mk3 mondeos.
If the truck had collided with the crash bar, the airbag probably would not have detonated. I've seen Mk3s with crash bars completely bent in, almost touching the radiator, and the airbags did not go off.

Thanks again for the entertaining and yet very very informative video, also from the social point of view. My Mk3 has blown valve or valves so watching this video I even think whether I change the engine. But maybe I scrap the whole car and buy another Mk3.

I found a mk3 1.8he without engine and i want to install an used 2.0he engine in it. Is it worth doing it? They are both cheap but i don't know how the engine will go. Used engines are be sitting for quite long. What's your thoughts mate?

Thats what all cars would sound like if they didn't have a cat or back box. Those old MK3's were over engineered, they can take a lot of abuse.

How well are they holding up(apart from the one in the video lol)?
I bought one of these for myself and had to sell it because the gearbox was doing all sorts of funny things such as slipping when changing to 3rd and not even changing into 3rd(revs stayed up high until it eventually decided to shift). As much ive read about those (quite)shitboxes they do not last very long until problems start to arise. But at the same time a lot of people got tons of miles out of them without any problems, mine had only 150k and it was slipping and some other problems!! How are the taxis and rental cars at your workplace holding up? You said in your video that your company only has automatic mk3s.

I have Mondeo from 2002 ST220 V6 but with 5speed manual. I was asking myself is it possible to swap that gearbox and put the newer one with 6 speed manual?
you probably can ..i thinking the gearbox bell housing bolts will be the same

Hi Mate. I have a Mondy MK3 Auto 2lt Ghia X Estate. 115K. It's making a terrible 'tinny' rattle noise from the pulley area.. but can't quite pinpoint exactly just yet. Serpentine belt looks good. Hell of a noise when driving. Put into N or P the noise calms down a bit.. any ideas? Not noticeable when car is cold..

no, not the diesel engine but it won't be much different to the petrol engine
Hi Alan, My recently purchased mk5 Mondeo 2L diesel makes a hollow grinding sound for about 10 seconds after the engine is started. The sound disappears once it has been idling for 10 secs or so and cannot be heard again until the next restart of the engine. I changed the oil, filter and air filter but this had no effect. Have you heard of this before? Any ideas what can cause this?
hi tony, sounds like the egr valve is screwed..they can make some awful noises just after the engine is started and switched off...probably best get it checked out

Poor MK3, that airbag pop wrote it off, if not I'd have loved to see it resurrected. Those 145hp are fun and not a gasoline hog tbh, that with a manual though. Great video Alan you are really a curtain airbag samurai. Cheers

You will be fine. Nothing wrong with it! Government in their wisdom just gave you 6 months MOT extension. Unfortunately put a few garages out of business due to loss of bread & butter mot test revenue. But hey they don't need the tax we were paying to help keep the country afloat? On the bright side at least I can carry on driving my old Sh..... box while I look for a new job ; )
