Now that would be the dream. The UK launching the first ever military spaceship. Imagine if we could claim that title on top of everything else.😆👌🏼😎

Woah back up. We are putting money into something called Skynet?!

Sky-Net has been the name of the UKs space program to watch for missiles for decades.
The Skynet 1 to 4 series were developed and operated by the Signals Research and Development Establishment, Royal Signals and Radar Establishment and Royal Air Force until 2003.[2] It was subsequently operated with Skynet 5 by Paradigm Secure Communications until October 2012, when the organisation was rebranded to Astrium Services then through merger in 2015 became Airbus Defence and Space.[3]
The MoD is currently specifying a new architecture for Skynet to replace the Skynet 5 system, whose funding programme ends in August 2022. The vision for Skynet 6 is a flexible system architecture that combines UK government, allied and commercial satellites, including the current Skynet 5 satellites.[4][5] Skynet is the large part of the MoD Future Beyond Line of Sight Satellite Communications programme (FBLOS), which extends to 2041, with expected transition costs of about £6 billion.

Given that 2 SKYNET satellites were launched at the end of September 1969 and put into equatorial geo-stationary orbits at about 40 - 50 deg east (ie between Mombasa and the Seychelles) the system is probably due for an upgrade ! If I remember correctly the associated shipborne (SCOT) system first went operational in late 1970 in HM ships Fearless and Intrepid.

I wonder how many people even realise that The "Terminator" movies actually got its name for Sky-Net from of our UK space agency and defense programs beginning in 1960, but Sky-Nets initial operations began with its launched if it's 2A satellite in 1974.

Finally, something actually designed and built in Britain, for Britain. And in fact even actually launched in many cases from Britain.👌🏼👏🏼 Now this, this is what we should be pushing. We need to show that we can take the lead in the sector just as much as anyone else. Especially when there is so little effort right now in truly tackling the ever increasing problem with space debris. If we could develop a fleet of satellites to truly help to clean up this debris en masse, it would be a real game changer for us as a nation. Not to mention for the wider world in space travel.
Know if we can only push this hard in developing our own vehicles rather than just borrowing one from the US and build more of our own tanks than cutting them it would be even better.👍🏼

Well a war in space just really means blowing up satellites to destroy communication, GPS etc I don't think they would want to put people up there to fight each other so there's really no need to clean up space atm just don't make it any worse and we should be fine
