That is so cool. What was it like building a submarine like her back in the day? I can’t imagine what it’s like for the lads now who are building our current Subs.

Back in the early 1950s, I went to sea for a day in the previous "T" Class HMS Trenchant and I was certainly no more than 10 years of age. My brother went the day before and he was 13 years old, our father was the Chief Stoker (Mech) on the boat. Sorry to see the current one leave service because now at 78 I would like to have been and seen her but Covid stopped trips out.

its comforting to note. the Royal Navy hasnt lost a nuclear submarine. There are however, about two dozen or more deactivated nuclear subs stored at Rosythe and Devonport awaiting a properly funded decommissioning programme this challenge cant be forgotten.

Big boy- your post needs a little clarification. In your opinion, what could the money be spent on? Is it that Submarines are a waste or is it about defense spending in general? Or is it that the deterrent value of the submarine is just not important enough to burden the taxpayer? Anyways look forward to the discussion. Have a great day

Serious question, and not meant to be confrontational, but why do we (the UK) need nuclear powered attack subs.
If the cost is correct - mentioned in vid at .5 billion, I assume that doesn’t factor in how much they cost to decommission? Have any of our nuclear powered subs been properly decommissioned yet?
Why not just invest in conventional subs?
Is it just us desperately trying to hang on to the ‘Big Boys’ coat tails?
