What is masculinity exactly? It's always evolving, imo. Uneducated people believe masculinity = fucking biological females and/or not being penetrated. I, as a straight male, don't believe doing certain acts or not doing certain acts doesnt make a male "masculine".
I just saw Queer tonight. It blew me away. Absolutely career best for Daniel Craig. The themes of the story are obviously something he's genuinely interested in, and I don't only mean the sexual attraction. Everything he and Luca say here had me nodding my head vigorously in agreement.
If they're discussing sex scenes in film, I thought Brokeback Mountain did it perfectly. The first time they "did it", very quick and somewhat violent, fit the characters very well. But then the next time, I can only describe it as very moving, they just handled that scene brilliantly. It was very tentative and slow, and ultimately not just sex, but an expression of sudden love.
I saw the film and I think Daniel Craig is brilliant, this man embellished the word ACTOR to the fullest and should very proud of his work and his performance in this film. The scene in the jungle is so much more, it is about a connection between people is so incredible and it happen between to men on that level is brilliant, it’s the connection that everyone wants and is very rare indeed. The root of hate is fear. People find it easier to project their fears through hate rather than acknowledging what they don't know and understand. Our society is sick, and its leaders have and continue flaming these fears. We need more movies like Queer.
Awesome movie! I cannot wait to watch the full three hours version of it. It reflects not only the society of the 50’s but it still very real in today’s world.
I also want to add one more thought and that is the fact that this is between two men with a vast difference in age. Our community has such a disconnect when it comes to age difference. Yes, it started out as that the mature man is paying for sex with a younger man but then I thanked a turn. When you see the younger one actually takes care of him when he is a his lowest point in his life, he is there and if that’s not genuine love. Even though they go there separate ways in the end. This is a brilliant film. There is that possibility of love between a younger man and a mature man, one just has to get passed the stigma that society has put on this kinda of love providing the the younger is older than 18.

I thought so too, Luca seemed annoyed by the questions. I personally found the questions to be too complex yet very vague all at the same time. Too complex for the time they were given and at times too controversial. For example his one question about gay sex scene, was ultimately 7 questions. How does gay sex compare to straight sex being asked in the media? Delicate? Respectful? More fascination? Or is it just the same? Like that's 6 questions right there and to add he is ultimately asking about homophobia between the different ways of tackling gay sex scene between straight and gay sex scene in media. Like it seems open ended but quite pointed and controversial in his way of questioning. I feel like the interviewer needs to edit his question and almost allow a natural flow instead over complicating an interview. If I was the interviewee I would have to clarify all his questions and say is this what you are actually asking or something else. Make it more direct and less convoluted.

Looking forward to the movie. Queer, is a term i use when talking about myself or others in the communities. The DCGJIKNGFR+ is an absurd mouthful in constant flux. I'm 80, and queer.
That's cool because 30 years ago, talking to the older generations they hated the word queer because it's the word the nazis called us but mostly it was because of it's dictionary meaning of weird or strange. Which we are not, we are just like everyone else (although personally I don't care if someone calls me weird, I'd rather be weird than bland.)
Not everybody is into gay sex, that has to be accepted. Some people do find it disgusting. In the same way some gay people probably find straight sex very boring. Everyone is different and has their own tastes - there's no 'phobia' to any of it. It's just preference. Eg I also don't like lasagne, but that doesn't make me lasagne-phobic - I'm not afraid of it, I just don't like the taste. Accept one another's tastes and preferences. We can tolerate each-other without calling out a fellow individuals persona revulsion at something.
I find heterosexual, sex, disgusting and repulsive, but I would never post about that online out of respect for the people who are straight. Yet people have no problem, posting about gay or queer sexuality, as if they have the right to judge a group of people or sexual acts because they are not like what they see or who they are or what they do. So why doesn’t everyone just shut up and keep to themselves?
I'm going to see the movie tomorrow night. I'm 72 and for me the word "queer" will always be an insult. Reclaiming the word to me, seems to be self-loathing.

Seriously? Obviously, I’m unsure where you’re at in your life, but perhaps you need to get out more. I know plenty of homosexuals who are very masculine, perhaps too much when I think about it. Perhaps it’s they’re attempt at hiding their more queer side, but they’re masculine nonetheless.

Two wonderfully eloquent and thoughtful artists.
I love that Daniel Craig took inspiration from Tennessee Williams’ Memoirs.
And he’s right, it truly is a fantastic read!
Daniel already has played a queer man in a movie about Francis Bacon. A few years before he became James Bond. I look forward to seeing him in Queer.
And he played Joe in the 1993 production of Angels In America alongside Jason Isaacs, I really wish I'd seen that!
And the prisoner that seduces Truman Capote
Yes. With Derek Jacobi as Francis Bacon. 'Love is the Devil' (1998). Both are superb
