- I really enjoyed the Goggles 3 and do see them as quite the upgrade from the Goggles 2. However, there have been reports on the DJI Forums about random disconnects and black screens. Let's take a look at my experience flying the Goggles 3 with the O3 air unit after ~30 flights...

Hey Folks. I have no particular affiliation with DJI nor any special love for them, just a regular customer who purchases their products at full retail price. This is my objective experience flying the Goggles 3 with the O3 air unit across multiple weeks, multiple quads, and multiple locations. There's no downplaying that a serious issue exists as even a handful of these sort of reports needs to be taken seriously by DJI. We already have enough to worry about when flying...
Is the 03 air unit limited to 400 meters? I wanted to build a longer rang build with the 03 air unit and goggles 2.
@@X862go No, the O3 has a theoretical limit of 10km under the right conditions.
Thanks for your assessment. I’m still rocking my old Goggles 2 V2 goggles. Perhaps I’ll consider the Goggles 3 if/when O4 is released. Hard to beat the G2 V2s for now though. Huge FOV, plus they work with my analog, Vista, and O3 quads.
I hear you, the Goggles V2 were great. Solid as a rock too. Only problem is that they can't overlay the OSD on the recording and they don't have the OLED screens, otherwise great for the prior and current generation air units.

Yesterday I was out 5k and had 3-4mbits on a mountain with Gv2 and O3 - but looks like it was me setting a manual channel rather than using auto there. Next flight with Auto, 40mhz FCC mode... was fine - always good image. Really hope the G3 are as good as I think - else I will keep my Gv2 for longrange with their TrueRC patches.

Welcome. The Goggles 3 themselves are great compared with the Goggles 2 and Integra but the firmware right now isn't the greatest with the O3. Still a fair amount of stuttering, feels like it's still a beta firmware. I'm going to try a manual channel selection as well, see if that helps.
For all pilots with O3 problems - here is a very recent & important update from the User ,,Guy Aroshas`` in the official DJI Forum:
,,The source of the problem is only the Goggles 3, and not any other. It is not the new firmware for the O3, so there is no problem updating.
To reproduce the problem, I connected the Goggles 3 to my drone, and armed it in my house without taking off. I then started to go away from the drone until I lose video. When coming back to the drone, video is not restored until disarming.
The problem is that once the Goggles 3 loses video, it only searches for a disarmed drone (which is always transmitting on channel 8). So I can conclude that they only scan channel 8 after losing video. To prove that, I tried another test, where I armed the drone before powering up the goggles. After powering up the goggles, the same thing happens. The goggles don't find the armed drone. I can conclude that upon powering up the Goggles 3 they also scan only channel 8. I have tried the same tests, alternating between Auto and Manual channel selection. and also alternating Low Power Mode and Auto record, enabled and disabled. The same results apply. Losing video with the Goggles 3, even for a brief moment will result in the black screen of death, and it will not come back until you disarm, and get close enough to the drone.
I then proceeded to do the same tests with my Goggles 2, and no matter what, they can connect to my drone, armed or disarmed, and will recover video when coming back to the drone after losing video. I can say with confidence that it is unsafe to fly with this combo of Goggles 3 + O3, until a fix is released. Even a small interference which will cut your video briefly will cause this problem.
DJI PLEASE READ!
I have explained in details what needs to be done. The Goggles 3 needs a fix to search all channels for bound drones. Please fix this ASAP!

There seems to be 2 different problems, although the root cause may be the same. There's the issue you mention but then there's the other issue where the goggles 3 will disconnect randomly in situations where the signal strength is strong (e.g. 50 mbps.)
I've had disconnects, and I've crashed, and it would not connect again. Also, huge stutters randomly. One quad when I arm I lose video completely and it never reconnects it also seems to be worse between builds this is a weird issue. Shits been acting weird since day one running the 03 with the Googles 3.

So I've got this issue due-to the flight in about 500 meters away from me. Before that drone was able to get 2,5 km with link speed down to 5 mb/s (because of obstacles) and get back to 50 mb/s.
And I've got freeze at 25 mbit :). RTH works fine (I tested before the flight. So I was ready for that) and I was able to rebot unit in the flight (I do have power managment for VTX on board).
Unit was able to reconnect. But was started in low power mode (as before arming). But it's OK to get home
Admitting mistakes is usually not really part of Asian Cultures. I even had it dropping out on the desk after updating to the newest firmware and resetting the goggles 3. Only did one pack with my Pavo Pico, staying low to avoid any damage. It did not happen but that's the Problem, it does not happen on every Pack. Before I had it for the first time, I did around 6 Packs with different quads and besides frame drops eg. stuttering it did not lose video completely and I just thought "It's fine" - but it is not. I am currently not flying my O3 anymore until it's clear what happens and / or the issue is fixed. These kind of "Beta Tests" can be dangerous and expensive.
Ya, that's the problem, it happens intermittently and catches you off guard. I haven't had it happen yet over 30 packs but I know it's a possibility at any point.
A very unrelated question. I am from India and the G3 are quite expensive here. So i have asked one of my cousins who is coming to India next week from US to get me one. Do you think i should, maybe wait or can i just ask him to get it and wait for the firmware update? What if there is a hardware issue with the G3?
Until DJI announces a fix, no one knows what the issue is. The common thinking right now is that the issue is in the firmware.
In my case this shituation happend 2 times per maybe 100 packs. One when i was like 500m away from drone in a clear field, second shituation when i was maybe 30 m away with some bushes crossed path. No trust in system at all now
I still haven't had the issue happen yet but these reports make me not trust the system and definitely not fly anywhere that I can't walk over and recover the quad. Still nothing from DJI...
How can we use Goggle 3 with analog VTX ?
No, there's also no AV input and it only works with the O3 air unit right now.

Hi there, thanks for the info. Watching your flights and noticed you turned left quite alot, don't know if you noticed but you need to correct that. Used to do do the same thing and ended up turning one side better than the other and had to work to improve on turning in the other direction.

Better imager quality, more comfortable, in anticipation of 04?
Comfort and the real view cameras. The O4 compatibility is a big unknown right now since we don't know when the O4 will be released and even if the Goggles 2 / Integration will be compatible.

You are correct if you plan to use the DJI remotes. If you use a crossfire or ELRS, these are independent control links that have nothing to do with the DJI portion of your quad. You install a separate receiver for these remote controls.

I’d recommend getting the ELRS version and then whatever is your favorite ELRS capable transmitter (the Radiomaster Boxer is popular). Problem with the DJI RC3 remote is that they don’t use full size gimbals so you don’t have the same resolution, they connect to the quad through the goggles so if you lose video you also lose remote control, and they go end of life very quickly (look at the RC2 that was released 2 years ago, already end of life with the release of the Goggles 3)
The third flight video dropped out the battery was real low when it happened
Which flight you referring to? I run a 6s battery pack so the voltage is always above the minimum voltage of the o3 air unit.
I think the low bitrate on takeoff is related to heat in the vtx and possibly the unit throttling back. I noticed just bench testing the unit that the bitrate drops and if I point a small fan at it, it goes back up.
How is your o3 powered? It stutters hard when you throttle punched and flipped over the tree. Maybe battery sag or voltage instability? Do you have a cap?
These would be good things to try if the issue wasn't isolated to the goggles 3. I've been flying the same quad with the same setup on the goggles 2 since the O3 released and haven't had these stutters. O3 is powered straight from vbat.
@@Mangorille Yeah I’m not disputing that it’s a problem with the new goggles. Just trying to narrow it down and maybe find a bandaid until dji fixes it.

Are you using the controller 3 or what? Interested to see how the whole DJI system works with the controller too without additional RX
I used to use the DJI Controller up until the Controller 2 and then decided that it was best to switch over to a dedicated control link when they started to really cut corners on their controllers. I ran the original black FPV controller for years but then started having problems with the Controller 2. I run the Tango 2 with an internal ELRS module now. Made a video when I switched over at the time:

I lost connection, and my signal has been shit also. One, I can't even fly the signal is such shit right now with the 03 and Googles 3.
Worse than the signal you see in my video? If so, something else may be wrong with your setup.
Your FC needs to arm it to get out of the 25mw low power mode.
@@KainniaK Good point, yes, it the TX/RX are not connected correctly the O3 will not receive the arm signal and will not go into full power mode.

@@Mangorille Thank you for replying. I just got a brand new iFlight Nazgul (O3 unit) but only taken it out once (Using it with RC3 and googles 3) as I saw people telling their horror stories of it falling from the sky. Scared to go out and fly it now. Hopefully they will fix it soon…..

No weird stuttering either? I haven’t gotten the disconnect but I get more stutters than with the goggles 2.

@@elrollmay Still no disconnects but the stuttering from time to time continues. I've tried with focus mode on/off, with manual channel selection, etc. All still working no different than what you saw in this video.

Guys! On the new FW, I still got BAD STUTTER when doing HARD Flip ( pitch or rolls) which doesnt happen on my V2. Tried Everything and found out switchingFOCUS MODE to AUTO fix the stutter 🎉. Hope this helps .

Try record in 4K 50 fps instead of 60 fps.

recording in 4K 60fps uses more processing power and is more likely to stutter then 4K50fps.
@@KainniaK Got it. I'll have to try that out and see if it makes a difference. The stuttering is in the goggles video feed and not the onboard recording so I suspect it won't make a difference especially when the mbps drops in the video feed when the stutter happens.
