This was Gail Russell's only singing performance on film. It was only a small cameo appearance as she sings "Swinging On A Star" with Jean Heather and Helen Walker. She later auditioned for the lead female role in "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court" with Bing Crosby, wearing,of all things, a blonde wig. The part was later given to Rhonda Fleming. If you would like to know more about Gail Russell,"Hollywood's Cinderella Girl",Gingam Sparks has published my biography of Gail Russell,"Fallen Star". It is now available on Amazon Books Barnes and Noble Booksellers, and Ebook.

Also joining the cast in this number, at 2:56 (in the black t-shirt), is actor Howard Da Silva. Da Silva was a fixture on stage, screen, and TV for five decades, with the exception of nearly the entire 1950s, when Da Silva was blacklisted, as part of the shameful actions of the House Unamerican Activities Committee (HUAC).

Would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?
A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule
Or would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?
A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig
Or would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?
A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish
A new kind of jumped-up slippery fish
And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you meet quite a few
So, you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
    You could be swing

#ugottalisten2b4udie On March 22, 1975, alone in her apartment, Cass Daley the 59-year-old comedienne apparently fell and landed on her glass coffee table. A shard of glass jammed into her throat and she bled to death before her husband came home and discovered her. For her contribution to the television and radio industry, Cass Daley has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6303 Hollywood Blvd. Cass Daley was buried along the roadside in Section 8 (the new Garden of Legends), at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California.wiki

(Correct me if I got any of these parody lyrics wrong.)
Oh, could you like to swing on a star,
How'd you like to carry moonbeams home in a big, fat jar
Or be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a ham?
A ham is an actor who believes he's adored.
    Just missed the Academy Award.
His head gets bigger, and his smile does, too.
(That's the only kind of acting he can do.)
So, right, if you don't mind the critics when the slam,
You might grow up to be a ham.
Or would you like to swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar,
And be better off than you are,
Or would you rather be a bear?
A bear is an actress who comes on with a roar,
And all body else can have the floor.
She looks like every night was Halloween.
(I think Cass Dellia's the one you mean.)
So if you like catching people unaware,
You may grow up to be a bear.
Would you like to swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar,
And be better off than you are,
Or would you rather be a cass?
A cass is an actress with a voice that can purr
Providing you are very nice to her.
She can be nasty with the sweetest grin
(In other words, you mean, uh, Diana Lynn.)
We must have a victory like chass,
You might grow up to be a cass.
Or would you like to swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar,
And be better off than you are,
Or would you rather be a lamb?
A lamb is an actress with soft charming ways
They want in all of Shakespeare's plays
Her voice is quiet, and she's so refined
(Are you kidding? You lost your mind?)
You better shut your trap, grab your coat, (?) and scram,
Or would you rather be a lamb?
How would you like to swing upon a star,
Carry moon, carry moonbeams home in a jar,
How'd you like to spice it ol', how'd you like to swing
    (I'd like to swing, [x3])
Or would you rather be L'amour?
L'amour is an actress, and she gets reimbursed
So let said director do his worst.
She lives on islands, and she sings a song
    (Steady)
And gets pneumonia all so wrong.
(Oh, if you don't care what the public must endure)
You might grow up to be L'amour.
Or would you dress in any old thing
Have a funny name such as Ba-ba-ba-Bing?
Have some actress near when you sing
Or would you rather be a snob?
A snob is an actor who will tell you he's tops.
He even brags about his flops.
Now, when this boy plays golf, never counts his strokes.
And that's not all, he tells those beat-up jokes.
But if you're like a friend of mine called Bob,
You might grow up to be a snob.
And all the monkeys aren't in a zoo.
Every day you meet quite a few. (That's what you do.)
Sign right up and say "How'de do?"
    Have every (?) someone bar.
Boy, you were swinging on a star!

Providing you are very nice to her.
She can be nasty with the sweetest grin
(In other words, you mean, uh, Diana Lynn.)
We must have a vitriolic chat,
You might grow up to be a cat.
      Spoken:
Would you like to join me in a chorus?
      I will if I must,
I don't want you to knock yourself out, you think you can handle it?
Certainly I think I shall do a splendid job
You are my man. I'll take a line, you take the next line
Or would you like to swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar,
And be better off than you are,

to let director do his worst.
She lives on islands, and she sings a song

And gets pneumonia in an old sarong.
(well, if you don't care what the public must endure)

Or would you dress in any old thing

Bing, for sure, was the king of movie musical effortless casual, but not a sexual vibe to speak of on the screen. and he was mean and cruel to his four sons, and unfaithful to his dream of a wife. Dixie Lee, also a star, who gave up all that to marry Bing. have to wonder why. all America loved casual Bing, to a fault, back in the day, but...you do see what he was, in the less naive days of now. a four letter word would describe him, but why bother to use it here? the evidence is in the clips, you know? and he presumed to think that Grace Kelly would give up her rising career to give him more Bing babies? Grace did know better.

    • @mitzymoo3151
      @mitzymoo3151 5 років тому +4

Bing was also not meant to be built up as a great romantic matinee idol, (apparently the studios tried early on but Bing was definitely not comfortable with that), so his onscreen image wouldn't have given off a great sexual vibe. But women all over the world adored him and his second wife said every woman in the world wanted to marry him. He must have been doing something right on screen to be that popular.
