- Swinging On A Star (Van Heusen-Burke) by Bing Crosby, with The Williams Brothers Quartet, orchestra conducted by John Scott Trotter
Yes, sixteen year-old Andy Williams is heard with his three brothers performing on the #1 record of 1944, which also won the Oscar for ‘Best Song,’ as sung by ‘Best Actor’ Bing, from ‘Best Movie’ “Going My Way.” “Swinging On A Star” spent nine weeks atop the best-sellers rankings.
THE 1944 HITS ARCHIVE - a collection of commercial recordings and songs that proved popular during the calendar year 1944 via sales, sheet music, juke box play, and radio exposure.…plus some others that have gained increased recognition or have been shown to have had an impact during the decades that followed. You’ll note that due to the long-running ‘recording ban’ (musician’s union strike against the record companies), quite a number of this year’s best-sellers were recordings made back in 1942 or earlier. .

Lyrics:
Would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?
A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule
Or would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?
A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig
Or would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?
A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish
A new kind of jumped-up slippery fish
And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you meet quite a few
So, you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star
This Song used for the 1947 Little Lulu Cartoon In Paramount Cartoon Studios
That sequence is always playing in the background in my brain.
@@pantheonvideo And don't forget Hudson Hawk (1991).
@@Naminski1a I haven't seen it but I'll check it out.
@@pantheonvideo I watched it on Pluto TV. It's from TriStar Pictures.
@@Naminski1a Thanks!
This is one of only 5 songs from a Best Picture Oscar winner to win the Best Original Song Oscar. The others are the title song from "Gigi" (1958), "My Heart Must Go On" from "Titanic" (1997), "Into the Wind" from the 3rd "Lord of the Rings" movie (2003), and "Jai Ho" from "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008).
At least 4 Best Picture winning songs feature Best Original Song winners from earlier years:
"Forrest Gump" - "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head"
"American Beauty" - "Call Me Irresponsible"
"The Shape of Water" - "You'll Never Know"
"Nomadland" - "White Christmas"
Andy Williams later recorded other Best Song Oscar winning songs, including "Days of Wine and Roses" and of course "Moon River".
Have you heard Jerry Butler's version of "Moon River"? The best IMHO
@@walterhaight5382 Yes, I love his version!
I have an intense dislike of Andy Williams for some reason
