Jess I just love your performance analysis, as i have said so many times, Nightwish are simply epic & love it when I see you are reacting to one of their performances. Romantacide being one of my all time favourites. 🔥😁🤘🔥 - What to do next ALL of Wacken 2013 is a great start. Just one a week will be fine get that mindblowing magical concert in the bag 😁🤘
@@jessicasopranonotes Absolutely go along with this - every song in the Wacken 2013 setlist is epic! Even their placement in the setlist is worthy of analysis, looking particularly at the fact that headlining at Wacken is huge for a metal band, but that festivals also carry a special difficulty - not everyone is there to see and hear any band in particular, and you may be following some pretty epic bands - in this case, Alice Cooper had just finished on the adjacent stage, so that's a tough act to follow. You have to catch that crowd before they drift off to other parts of the site for refreshments or other amusements in order to gain new listeners and fans (which, of course, is the upside - access to those who would not have listened to you otherwise) The one benefit of headlining is that no other artists or bands are competing for attention on other stages - the headline act is the only one to enjoy this exclusivity (Wacken 2013 had [I think] 5 actual stages and 3 or 4 other venues active during the festival), so attendees can choose which performer or band to go and listen to for any other performance but the headliners. I was a little surprised you didn't comment on that gorgeous glissando with Floor carrying on up and holding the top note before descending again, while Marco goes back down an octave before - I think Floor manages 3 full octaves in a continuous glissando going up, and two back down after the sustain, all in one breath and with no apparent change when negotiating the passagio! There must be one somewhere, but she negotiates it so smoothly that it is very hard to hear where (at least for me - but my high-pitched hearing isn't what it was and of course, I'm no expert in the female voice, so you may be able to pick out where she shifts registers). And of course, that epic guitar solo when Emppu gets to go full-on Eddie Van Halen and thrown in double-handed hammer-ons, pull-offs, tapping and some amazing prestidigitation with the plectrum to switch between normal alternate picking and finger-picking/tapping. We are more used to hearing him soloing more in the David Gilmour style than the EVH, so this kind of work illustrates his amazing versatility. You are spot on about the energy that drummers put into hard rock or metal of most kinds - that is why it is almost normal to see them playing shirtless and shining with sweat, swigging down electrolytes by the quart. Jukka uses as much energy in this 90 minute set as most marathon runners would in a full race, and I bet he goes through drumheads and cymbals at a ferocious rate, in addition to the sticks which are pretty much a disposable item in hard rock drumming. It is certainly a shame that he only had two more concerts left in him after this one, although he is still with Nightwish, working behind the scenes on social media and marketing. He has made a couple of very brief appearances since, but never for full concerts. He is managing to better control his health by working that way, and made a real sacrifice by stepping back and putting Kai forward as his own replacement for "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". Marco, of course, is epic vocally and doesn't back off on the complexity of his bass part during his vocals at all. He is equally awesome in both roles. And Tuomas, the master poet and composer, putting all this together in his head before working it out on keyboards and separating out the parts for everyone, is a pure genius. You'd think that by now, just about every subject would have been covered, yet he still manages to come up with new ideas and approaches for his music. This is, as the title suggests, about the death of a romance, and he uses every trick in the book (and even invents more) to portray how it decays through indifference to hate, contempt, taunting, arguments and rage. As always, the music is a perfect match for the lyrics, this being one of the heaviest songs in their repertoire.
@@jessicasopranonotes This concert was epic and you very much seem to like symphonic metal 😁 In time why not turn a page and check out some more like EPICA!! 🤘and Within Temptation. 2 Dutch symphonic metal bands both with gorgeous sopranos as lead singers. @@stichhalbierer9329 Thank you my friend. I had heard of Nightwish many years ago, but never took the time to check them out. Then I discovered them on YT about the same time as you in 2019. It was GLS at Wacken. It blew me away. Floor was captivating and brought tears to my eyes and chills all over my body. Since then I cannot get enough of her. I also love the rest of the band, especially Tuomas. He is a genius songwriter. I miss Marko already. I have great respect for Tarja. She is wonderful as well. However, I much prefer smaller doses of operatic singing. Annette is great on her recordings, but she could not provide the charisma and vocal performance required in a live NIghtwish show. I respect both of them, but Floor is the master of all vocal techniques which allows her to build songs to such epic climaxes. Amazing! Be well.
What a splendid tutorial comment you gave. Thank you so much. Now In onderstand more of the genius Thuomas. I don' t know what more I can expect from Floor and Marko (who is hopefully temporarely wat of Nightwish). You have a journey with Nightwish and you don't regret I may notice. I am 81 and since 2029 a juge fan of Nightwish and especially of Floor who is Dutch, so am I. Dear lady stay healthy and continue your journey.
A minor point you didn't mention but I found really slick is how thru the vocals you get 2 different matched descending slides and then the guitarist adds a descending slide to the end of his solo. Everybody in this band is a top tier musician.
Every time I see you do a Nightwish reaction, all I can think is the clips you uploaded where you sang portions of Ghost Love Score and how much I want to hear you cover an entire Nightwish song. Your voice is closer to Tarja's (more operatic and has a darker tone than Floor's) but at the same time it radiates with Floor's light and many other great elements that are exclusively yours, so I believe that if you decide to make a cover, it will be amazing!
Thank you for your expertise and the way you are dissecting Nightwish songs so meticulously. It makes clear how extremely well these songs are composed and how extremely well they are executed by all of the band members.
Nightwish is coming to USA May 2022 with 2 shows in California, 1 in NY, 1 in Massachusetts, and they added some more including Chicago and Florida.. Plenty of time to get tickets, I hope you go. 😊❤🤘🤘

You are one of the first reactors that I enjoy and respect when you pause the video to react. Because you actually have interesting and enlightening things to say.
When I saw you were reacting to this song I couldn't hit the link fast enough and you didn't disappoint. I love that you not only know what you're talking about but you get excited by it and genuinely like the music. They'll be in LA in May 2022; two shows May 20 and 21. I'm flying to LA to see them on the Friday night show and crossing fingers it's not postponed again. As for the next Nightwish song... vocally there are a couple that really run the gamut, they're longer and knowing what they're about does help but not necessary, especially for a reactor like you who is focusing on the art of the voices, you can always watch again for meaning - not that they won't touch your soul. At any rate - "The Poet and the Pendulum" (an intensely moving song that Floor's voice absolutely masters; it's about Tuomas's descent into depression after the band fired their first singer. He used art to deal with the emotions of betrayal, anger, self-loathing, etc. instead of killing himself in real life, he killed a facet of himself in the song - it's brilliant) live at Wembley Arena: ua-cam.com/video/N4Vfy5yCy-c/v-deo.html and "The Greatest Show on Earth" (birth of the Earth and evolution of life on our planet) live at Tampere, my favorite version because of the grandness of the staging, beautiful and dramatic (there's also the Wembley version that is also good but indoors so not quite so grand, but a few different elements from the Tampere version - I'm not going to put in a link for either, you can find depending upon what you're in the mood to do). Can't wait to see what you do next! ✌🤘

Hello Miss Jess, I do not know if somebody have already mentioned this but the combination of Floor Jansen's highvoice and the growl of Marko Hietala is called "Beauty and the Beast" vocals. A style many metal fans believe (some may say otherwise) was pioneered by the Norwegian band, Theatre of Tragedy. If you find the time, please listen o some of Theatre of Tragedy's first two albums from 1995 and 1996 where that style is at it most pronounced. Kind regards Your fan,

Great reaction, I subbed for two reasons. 1. Your technical knowledge and deconstruction of the music. 2. When you mentioned a specific spot in the music you edited that part into the vid right after describing what was going on. That is a really great touch that I'm surprised more reactors don't do. You could easily just go through the entire Wacken 2013 set and do each song, they're all fantastic. And I totally agree about Jukka on the drums. His stage presence, energy, everything about him was awesome. Their current drummer Kai is one of the top drummers around. He's a human metronome and he knows how to play what the song requires and nothing more. Meaning he doesn't show off with crazy, overly technical, stuff when it's not called for. But the one thing he lacks is the stage performance. Jukka looked like he was on speed the whole time, Kai frequently looks downright bored. But close your eyes and listen to the drums and they're just dead on perfect.

Love your reaction and analysis to Nightwish. Please do more.
Ever Dream, Poet and the Pendulum, Ghost River, Storytime, Sleeping Sun, Song of Myself.
EPICA 'Retrospect' and Within Temptation 'Black Symphony' feature both the bands with full symphony orchestra and choir on stage! And of course some awesome performances and guests 😉
Nightwish will do three shows in California in May.
May 18, 2022,The Warfield, San Francisco
May 20&21 2022, The Wiltern, Los Angeles
I would say Song of Myself from the same concert. You'll really want to give a shout out to Jukka's drumming on that one. And the vocal harmonies are chef's kiss.
Nightwish - "Dead Boy's Poem" (Live in Buenos Aires 2018)
Heh - I was waiting to see your face for that vocal slide at the end, and I was not disappointed...😈👌
I love reactors like you who bring professional perspective to their analysis, especially if it's from a different part of the musical world: it's SO interesting.
Good job.👍
Thank you, Harold!
I have tickets for their show on May 20th in LA!!! they are performing at The Wiltern!!! I've seen them twice in the states and cannot wait to see this show. It was originally scheduled for October, but Covid bumped it to May!!
I'm going may 21st I'm so excited
That’s today! Let us know how it went!
WOHOO! Good job in analyzing! Looking forward to see you soon on Song of Myself. ;)
Omg finally someone that gets that she was mocking. Its so well done by Floor. Her range is unlimited.
that guitar solo is one of Emppu's finest works, in my opinion.
Your reactions get better and better! Love the explanations!
Thank you!
Nightwish has a tour scheduled in 2022 go to the Nightwish web sight and check out the dates & locations . I know there in LA
THEEESE, Ladies, Gentlemen and In-Betweens, ARE reaction videos. I LOVE them, and how you so don’t constrain any bit of emotion and you just let it all pour out. It’s contagious and makes me enjoy these videos, that I have watched very repeatedly as an 18 year-long Nightwish fan, as if it were the first time!
Thank you so much!! Glad you like them!
LOVED this reaction! Floor, as you know, is a goddess not of this unworthy orb. Simply magnificent and I love how much you love her :). I'd love to see you react to Floor's Phantom with Henk Poort (who was in the European production) on a Dutch show called Beste Zangers (Best Singers). Another is Yours Is An Empty Hope. It will leave you stunned with what she can do :)
Thx for reaction, keep it up with Nightwish reaction!
man, soooo many analysis...Song of myself (Wacken) , Poet and the Pendulum (Live at Wembley) , Greatest Show on Earth (Live in Tampere). So good, you migh have your socks blown off!
Nightwish 2022 US tour expanding Lowell, MA 5-7-2022 Tickets on sale now!
I love ,love, love your breakdowns, more Nightwish please there is just so much for you to dissect in Tuomas’s compositions.
Gabriel Henrique - I Want To Know What Love Is. (D7 note).
What a voice! Incredible technique!
Hugs from Brazil.
Floor is so badass in this. Makes me smile :)
Jess your vibes listening to the song are contagious ! You vibe good and Fun ! Thanks for this reaction.
Wonderfully done Jess! Your commentary and musical insight is so interesting. You have such a great ear for vocal coloring and music composition. I loved it. Nightwish has just announced dates for shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco for May of 2022.
Second that. In Germany they just cancelled a few days ago the concerts for November/Dezember.
@@stichhalbierer9329 Sorry to hear about the cancellations. You must be still experiencing severe covid numbers? I am so happy to hear recently that Nightwish has added some North American dates for next May. I am getting tickets and very excited to finally get to experience Nightwish, LIVE. However, I will miss Marko! Respect to Jukka Koskinen.
@@Thorgrim247 I live in in the north of Germany. The numbers here are not too bad, it’s getting worse again in the east and south of Germany. To be precise, I live in a village next to Wacken. I knew Nightwish with Tarja and liked the music, but was not very into it. In 2015 or so I read something about a new singer and watched some videos with Anette and didn’t like her live performances. And then, in the beginning of 2019 I learned about Floor and Wacken 2013. I was always a little late to the party. I bought the ticket for the human.||.nature tour exactly 2 years ago. I bought a ticket for the bullhead city festival with nightwish in Wacken (I planned to go by bike) this year in September. Everything cancelled due to the virus and the dumb people, that are afraid or too lazy to get a shot. I hope you will experience a great concert.
Your analysis and commentary is so spot-on and insightful. Great job! Keep exploring this band.
Wow, thanks Kent! And will do
A minor point you didn't mention but I found really slick is how thru the vocals you get 2 different matched descending slides and then the guitarist adds a descending slide to the end of his solo.
This has been on my to-do list. I just need to learn all of the words and come up with a video format.
Have been waiting for a Nightwish return!
Thank you for your expertise and the way you are dissecting Nightwish songs so meticulously. It makes clear how extremely well these songs are composed and how extremely well they are executed by all of the band members.
Brilliantly analysed. Thank you so much! Makes me appreciate Nightwish, Marko and Floor even more.
Nightwish is coming to USA May 2022 with 2 shows in California, 1 in NY, 1 in Massachusetts, and they added some more including Chicago and Florida..
Plenty of time to get tickets, I hope you go.
😊❤🤘🤘
Damn! You are now one of my top reactors. Beautiful, very smart and DEFINITELY a professional musician. Subbed.
There is a Nightwish show coming up May 20th of next year (2022) at the Wiltern, I believe tickets are still available.
Thank you very much for the great reaction. Really enjoyed your comments discussing the musicality of the band as well as Floor's vocal techniques.
Thank you for watching!
Nightwish has 3 CA shows scheduled next May.
May 18 - San Francisco, Calif. @ The Warfield
May 20 - Los Angeles, Calif. @ The Wiltern
May 21 - Los Angeles, Calif. @ The Wiltern
As others have said it's so awesome you point out stuff then play that part. Makes it way easier for the untrained ear to pick up what you're putting down. You do awesome reactions!
Thank you!
They're playing at the Wiltern in LA May 20 & 21, 2022! I'm going on the 21st! I think there are still tickets for at least one of the nights.
You are one of the first reactors that I enjoy and respect when you pause the video to react. Because you actually have interesting and enlightening things to say.
I appreciate that, Andrew!
He used art to deal with the emotions of betrayal, anger, self-loathing, etc. instead of killing himself in real life, he killed a facet of himself in the song - it's brilliant) live at Wembley Arena: ua-cam.com/video/N4Vfy5yCy-c/v-deo.html and
"The Greatest Show on Earth" (birth of the Earth and evolution of life on our planet) live at Tampere, my favorite version because of the grandness of the staging, beautiful and dramatic (there's also the Wembley version that is also good but indoors so not quite so grand, but a few different elements from the Tampere version - I'm not going to put in a link for either, you can find depending upon what you're in the mood to do). Can't wait to see what you do next! ✌🤘
Thanks Laure for these recommendations! I’m hoping their LA concert doesn’t get postponed as well 🤞🏾
Dang Jess, You got beauty, brains, talent and you love Nightwish...the perfect woman and one of the best reactors I've seen. Great job as always and keep up the wonderful reactions. I'm old enough to be your grandfather probably so that first part is truly heart felt. Keep doing what you're doing and thousands of us will keep watching the best of the best when it comes to reactions. I'm sorry but I love Elizabeth on The Charismatic Voice as well...You ladies ROCK!!!
You really deliver what I want in a reaction video. Your breakdown of the instruments, Floor's vocals, and the lyrics have helped me understand what I am listening to and why I enjoy the performance. Thank you.
Thank you Mack! I enjoy reading comments like this. It’s the reason why I make these videos 😊
One of my favourite lines from Nightwish in this song: till love do me part. Like until love distances me, or breaks me, or anti-wovs that are given at the altar.
The best reaction of this Song i ever see ( and i see many hihi😅). Absolut stunning. Greetings from northern Germany 🤘🤗
Thank you, Ralf! 😃
@@jessicasopranonotes i mean you are perfect, as a Front Woman in a Symphonic Metal Band .With a great Composer and Poet .🌹
The magic that you hear is Tuomas.. ;)
I’m going to see Nightwish in May 2022 at the Wiltern in LA!
Nightwish is playing in LA May 2022 if they don’t postpone again. Tickets on sale right now.
One of my favorite NIGHTWISH songs.....your reaction and analysis breakdown was spot on....Thanks!👍💖
Glad you enjoyed it, Jim!
I'm in the San Jose area! I'm up for NW next time they come to Cali.
I'm studying to become a teacher and have just finished a unit pertaining to The Arts, in particular song and music. Hearing you break down the elements and link the music and song to emotions resonated with my learnings. Thank you, as it hits home that The Arts truly has a place within education.
Yes we love Jess reactions!
I feel like I've been listening to them for years and am only now, through your eyes, understanding Tuomas' genius.
The rest of them are, of course, also geniuses in their own right.
Keep up the great work.
Yeeeea baby 😃 I absolutly love this song, so powerful. Thanks to react 💖
Always appreciate your reactions Jess!
After watching so many NW reactions you still manage to point out aspects I have not seen covered before!
Insightful... and fun!
Thank you so much!!
Im from Brazil.
Kisses for you dear 😍
This year i go to the show of Nightwish, im sooooo excited ❤️
You need to hear ” ever dream” and ” devil and the deep dark ocean” ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve done a video on the second one!

My favorite reactor ever!!! 💖🤘
Awe, thank you! 💚
I love the way you break down and point out alot of the technical aspects of songs. Great job!
Thanks Robert!
The look on your face at Marco & Floor's scream at the end was great, expected a comment on it, very surprised there wasn't one
You have great reactions and analyses from Nightwish songs so i give 6/5🎸 Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
I agree with a lot of the comments here. I usually just watch the reactors and enjoy their work, but you... you just show us all of your feelings while enjoying the song, almost as I'd I was watching myself react. So real. I really enjoy your videos and you gained a fan right here. Excellent job! 👏👏👏👏
I appreciate that!
Please react to Shoemaker by Nightwish, the live version. You're going to me amazed.
The title says it all 'Romanticide'. The death of a relationship.
This song is of course a masterpiece of the Metal Mozart.
HAIL Nightwish 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Excellent musical analysis. Review of pitch and chords is spot on. Nose wrinkle at 12:24 suggests that you should audition for Star Trek as a Bajoran or Kingon.
If you want to hear more of Marko, "The Islander" and "While Your Lips Are Still Red" are the songs to check out. Also, Nightwish has six members. The sixth member is Troy Donockley, he plays pipes, various wind instruments, guitars... If you want to hear him at his best, you need to check out "My Walden" and "I Want My Tears Back".
Of dozens of comments to this track, yours is the best! Thanks for the detail.
Glad you like it, Kenneth!
Hello Miss Jess,
I do not know if somebody have already mentioned this but the combination of Floor Jansen's highvoice and the growl of Marko Hietala is called "Beauty and the Beast" vocals. A style many metal fans believe (some may say otherwise) was pioneered by the Norwegian band, Theatre of Tragedy.
If you find the time, please listen o some of Theatre of Tragedy's first two albums from 1995 and 1996 where that style is at it most pronounced.
Kind regards
Your fan,
To see Floor do even more with her voice in a very different aspect- check out Yours is an Empty Hope at Wembley.
Also to see some more great Floor and Marko vocal work check out Song of Myself from the same 2013 Wacken show.
Nightwish will be in San Fran 5-18-2022 and LA 5/20 and 5/21/2022.
Enjoy!
Wow, you really did a good analysis and break down. Now some can see how much complexity and colours and passion is present here at work. Thx.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always looking forward to your reactions!
Glad you like them, Thomas!
They are coming to L.A. next spring!!😆
beautiful reaction, as usual. Detailed and entertaining. I hope to watch more metal music in here!
Very well done reaction! I'm impressed enough to subscribe.
Loved your indepth analysis of this song. As for people in California going to Nightwish, fellow reactors The Thamesmen are in California, one in L.A. the other in San Francisco and they are going to see Nightwish in May 2022 at The Wiltern, L.A.. Stay safe 🤘 ✌
"Composition 101".... A deep examination of Tuomas' oeuvre could be a 500 level class.
Night wish is in Los Angeles in May 2022, Friday and Saturday shows, I’ll be at the Saturday show in the orchestra pit! Hope you can make it!
But close your eyes and listen to the drums and they're just dead on perfect.
amazing as always
