Your jeep is an excellent survivor....My CJ 5 is 66 years old (1955). I can only hope to get it to the point you have yours..

I need to replace the rear shackles and bushings on my '74 CJ5 and can't quite bring myself to saw off the beautiful, original, rust-free OEM bolts. Unfortunately AMC installed the bolts from the inside, so I'll have to drop the gas tank if I want to save two bolts. It's SO original that I'm really conflicted..................but for a driveway mechanic I need to be reasonable about my time expenditure.

Beautiful example of a cj5. We have a 66 cj5, but shes a bondo buggy. Was actually bought by my grandpa in 1971 as a rotted out plow jeep, he welded in new metal, and drove it for years then a guy spun out in the road, he slid and hit him. Vent the frame, and pushed the bumper into the tires, and bashed the fender in. Sat in there back yard for a few years then my dad wanted a jeep so he fixed it up as his first car. He still has it today infact thats the car i learned stick on
My one suggestion would be to use Anti-seize on everything as you install each bolt and bushing. It always helps !

What's your thoughts on rough country after a few years of driving? I'd like to change mine on my 71 cj5 Dauntless.
My boots were short as well.
7.5” bolts, similar to the long bolt off the front passenger side did the trick
I've heard this from a number of people. Rough Country sent me the longer bolts (like the one that goes over the differential casting) right away and I was back in business!

Perfect stance! I just picked up a 3A with a set of 27" tall tires that are shot. I just took delivery of a new set of 30" tires and am thinking it needs a similar lift. I wonder if those springs would work on mine. Im having a hard time finding a lift kit for a 51 3A. Yours looks absolutely perfect!
Your ride is probably rough in that the rims are narrow. I replaced the 15 x 5.5 with 15x7 Steelies (Wheel Vintiques) tread width is also 7” The ride softened incredibly. Just a thought. You do nice work and thanks for the videos.

I got my shackles, pivot eye bushings, and hardware from Kaiser Willys.

What made you decide 2.5 inch over 4 inch. I just picked up a 78 cj5 for my channel and I'm trying to make that decision. Thanks! and great videos!
I wanted to retain a stock-ish look with slight change in elevation. It retains a stock look but stands out a little more than the rest. The 4” also opens up more issues with steeper driveline angles and such 👍🏻

Thank you! It is much more planted and firm feeling, but in a good way! Some may think it's a little stiff but I don't believe it is. It really doesn't ride any rougher than the stock springs, honestly. It is an old CJ for goodness sakes, not a Cadillac, right??

Hey I just bought this lift for my 69. Before I jump in. The rear U bolts? How long do you need VS what they sent?
Great video. I just bought a 66 CJ5 and going to do the same. Did you have to extend the brake lines due to the lift, did you have to do anything to the steering components and why did you go with Rough Country’s suspension? I am new to the CJ game and just curious if this is the best lift or if there are others out there. Thanks.
Stock brake lines, not a crazy amount of lift.

Looks awesome! I’m building a 68 myself. What kind of rims/wheels are those and what size? I want to be able to put the dog dish hubs on my Jeep but just having issues with sizes.
Thank you! The tires are 30x9.50-15 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM3 wrapped around stock 15X5.5 steel wheels that have the three little nubs to hold on the hubcaps.

@@65SEEJAYFIVE How do you find them? I've got a set on one of the Landrovers I drive and I'm not keen. Very good off road but very poor road holding compared to the KM2s on my own truck.

The actual weight of the springs? I'm not sure, my best guess would be about 60+ lbs. a piece. Give Rough Country a shout and I'm sure that they will know, they have excellent customer service!

Not a factory color, but you can get it at your local hardware store. It is Krylon Peacock Blue, spray paint!
can you put the leaf on top of the axle instead that on the bottom?
You could, but that would be a lot of work (custom work). Not worth all the effort to me, but to some I’m sure it is a worthwhile upgrade.
Informative, but don't really have a need around me to lift the already high from stock cj5 I own. Good vid though.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you are just adding extra leafs to gain your lift, which is going to seriously reduce flex. To gain what really?
J Denmark the new front leaf packs have the same leaf count as the old ones. The rear is the only additional leaves, going from stock 5-leaf to new 8-leaf packs. I can tell you right now it flexes great, and the ride is much more planted. The only Jeeps of this era that got the 5-leaf springs were the Tuxedo Parks, all of the other CJ5s came with 9-leaf rear (I believe?). It’s all about the arch and design of the spring rate by the manufacturer, not just the leaf count. Thanks for watching!
@@65SEEJAYFIVE True that, although I grew up with a '73 Cj5, I have always owned Land Rovers. The first thing I do on my Series is take off the cart springs and put on ellipticals. The have a lot less leafs, raise the rig a bit and had a ton of flex, pretty comparable to coil springs, actually,

Oil based grease will degrade natural rubber especially O rings , it can swell and soften natural rubber . Use silicone based grease on rubber .On less you know its synthetic ,error with caution.
Nice jeep but a bit of under body protection is needed before it's to late.

I bet the ride is stiff! Lift springs with more leaves and pressurized nitrogen shocks will do it to a light CJ-5.
Not really, rides like an old Jeep should, and no more leaves than stock HD packs.

No, didn’t come with the shocks.
