This video probably suggests a dpf back is pointless.
I had a Torqit SS 3inch twin exit on mine. Today, after running it for 14 months or so. I decided to go back to stock exhaust. After the swap I noticed the stock exhaust feels more responsive on take off. There was no noise difference, what so ever, and took probably 20kg of weight of the vehicle. As for egts, I will see over the next few days.
Dpf back systems are a waste of money imo. No dpfs, I would definitely buy again.

    Good content,
We have a twin 3 into 3.5, had to get a mid muffler drone was annoying at a few cruising speeds
They definitely sound better under load ie towing but still can’t get it to sound anywhere as good as our 79 did I think it’s the auto / TC mellowing out the note.

Well done Nathan I think that pretty much answers my questions to the affirmative that the potential issues of drone isn’t really going to be a problem. It was interesting that you did find a narrow band where it was prominent, but not much. My only challenge, and I imagine for many others, is getting it past the ‘War Office’. One last question would you look to get an engine remap which is what most seem to do when changing the exhaust, so that you can squeeze more power and torque out of the engine and to also minimise the turbo lag at start off? Also what is your tow hitch, which seems to go nice and low? Great video 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  3 роки тому

Cheers mate. Glad it has helped out with a few questions. After 3,500km I'm still loving this exhaust. Fuel consumption is suffering a little bit due to that heavy right foot...
Yes, I am looking at ECU and transmission remap along with a full intake clean (actually booked in for next week).
PS. This is only a cheap tow hitch I use for the light box trailer, but I use this fully adjustable 4t rated tow hitch with the van - rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fitm%2FAdjustable-tow-bar-tongue-50mm-towball-trailer-boat-car-4T-Rating-Mister-Hitches%2F192586541905%3Fhash%3Ditem2cd70d6b51%3Ag%3ACAQAAOSwIK5f2sB7&campid=5338630196&toolid=10001&customid=

Hi Nathan, I've recently come into ownership of an 2012 GX and been busily researching all of the usual upgrades/mods. Your videos are the best out there - super informative for the detail oriented; makes descision making a whole lot easier - thanks and keep up the good work! In response to Andrew's question above re: remaps, and your response - did you end up getting the remaps done? I'm almost at the point of pulling the trigger myself, but hesitating due to conflicting information overload! I'd be very interested to hear about your experience, as I'm sure many of your viewers would. Any plans for an episode on this? Apologies if you've covered this elsewhere and I've missed it.

      Thanks Terry 👍
Yes, it was slightly slower, however the filming was done on a different day and there could be environmental factors playing a part in there too. As mentioned, it was very informal and more to ascertain whether there would be any significant difference without the use of proper measuring equipment.
PS. Yes, full RRP. I’ve made a point to keep this channel as independent as possible to create unbiased reviews 👍

      @@XploringOz good stuff Nathan.
Agree, as it was filmed on different days environmental factors could definitely be at play.
Good to see you are trying to remain independent. I cut a video called “Product Review Videos on UA-cam” on Jafffa Adventures and if you read the comments section you can clearly get an understanding of viewership opinion on the subject. You are young with a long and bright future in front of you and it would be a shame if you went down the 24/7 route if you know what I mean. Once down that road, there is no going back (and it will be very enticing to do so at times I suspect). Stay true to your values and viewers will love you for it. Old man lecture over😂😉. Cheers😎👍

I watched that clip (along with most of your content) and it was actually this video that cemented my focus on being independent. The comments alone just go to show that people enjoy and value watching videos with 'real' unbiased review. Channels like our may not receive the 10's or 100's of thousand's of views like the 'influencers' however thats not why I started or continue to make these videos. The positive feedback and appreciation I get from people that have received some sort of useful information from my videos is the encouragement I enjoy.

Hi Nathan, nice vid and well explanations. You really need to hitch up your new van, guess you have to adjust also the height of your hitch, which looks at lawnmower height level !
Then you will acknowledge if your exhaust produce drone noise at different speeds, above 90 to 110 km/h also depending on 5th. Or 6th. gear with locked converter. But I reckon the Mud tire ‚will sing their song‘ when loading up and van on the towball. Safe trip, cheers

Yes, I'm looking forward to towing the new trailer, however along with most industries, this appears to be significantly delayed due to lockdowns. So this might be a while off yet, but still coming along. Whenever it comes, I'll be sure to revisit the exhaust and see how it performs.
Haha yes, the tow bar doesn't quite match the vehicle. Because the cruiser is so high now, this is what I need to tow my standard, non-offroad box trailer to keep the tandem axles on the ground.
Hope you are keeping well and thanks again.

Great Vid!!! I have same yr etc and have been doing a lot of reading to make sure i don't end up with drone. Because if it did when towing the van id get a lot more drone inside from the boss lol! Why did you choose Aluminised steel over stainless? Have been thinking of 3" highflown cats into

I only chose aluminised steel because of the cheaper price and personally, if I get 10 years from the exhaust ill be happy. I'm not too worried about a bit of surface rust on the exhaust.

Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it.
So honestly, I haven't noticed a change in fuel consumption yet. It was hard to compare the fuel consumption for a lot of the highway km's as I was towing a trailer I setup differently to normal, therefore wouldn't be a fair comparison.
My urban driving has remained about the same, however and its a big however... my driving style has changed a little. I always find myself accelerating that little bit harder to get to nice exhaust note. Further, I've been doing a lot of vehicle testing recently, including many hard acceleration tests which hasn't helped.
In my opinion, I believe that if my driving styled remained the same, I may have seen a slight improvement, but I wouldn't believe it to be much.
The vehicle is getting a tune next week and this is where I can hope to see some improvements in this area.
