People always forget how badly Boise was beating Oklahoma that game but an unfortunate bounce off a special teams blocker cost us and then we threw an INT right after that so we had to use trick plays to come back. That’s what was so great about the game. Two TO’s against a team that good usually means a loss but BSU pulled off a miracle. As long as we don’t make mistakes, we will beat PSU. They will underestimate us just like Oklahoma did and we have a Heisman RB that has and will come through in the clutch if needed.
Good analysis for sure. There is no question Penn is deeper and has overall better match up numbers, experience, and Fiesta Bowl records, etc... however, I truly believe BSU is going pull out a "W" here. BSU has to come out strong and fast. They'll need to demonstrate/establish right away they are there to play. If though they get behind and fold like SMU did, it's going to be very long night for BSU. I think Penn is capable of performing a blowout where BSU can make it a good game to watch.
I am not sure I would say that Penn State is solely to blame for the score against SMU. Did they play better? Yes absolutely. Did Jennings throw some of the worst interceptions of his season in terms of poor choice quality? Yes. If anything, SMU handed the game over to Penn State by destroying their confidence with 3 interceptions. Outside of this, I agree that Penn State is a very balanced team with skill players in the right positions, and the coaching staff has done a great job at rebuilding their program after the Paterno business. As a Boise fan, I am excited that we get a shot at Penn State, because we just don't get shots like that as much as we want to. Our team isn't a rolling carousel of top 25 recruiting classes, our conference isn't as top heavy as some of the power 4 conferences. Our players get their shot by coming to Boise, after being snubbed by larger programs. They really value humility and working within it to grow. We start our year knowing we are expected to run our conference, overwhelmingly. And the promise of doing so is the chance at a team like Penn State. Boise State will not sleepwalk into this one, and their fans will be there in force. May the best team win.
It wasn’t the Paterno stuff dude. Do a little research on that situation. What you said may be nice and sweet and all of that but you’re not reading this situation correctly
And PSU will not sleepwalk either brother. All the negativity we have endured about “we will never win a big one with Franklin” has been very tough to live with. On the flip side PSU is some ridiculous number like 31-1 when they are favorite, and this is for the semis of college football. Just saying.
This is a good write-up and commentary. Well thought out. I'll just add this as a PSU fan. Eventhough many of PSU's uninitiated fans may be overlooking Boise State, guaranteed that coach Franklin, his staff and players are not. They'd be foolish to do so. One of the good things about Franklin whether you like him or not is he's a good student of history and respectful of it. He knows who Boise State is and knows hiw he gas to prerpare for them. Will it work? Who knows and that's the beauty of all this. How will PSU's players react when they first hit Jenty and find out how different he is and how good Boise's' OL IS? Can they adjust? Reference the victory over SMU every game hinges on only 5 or 6 plays. The game can have a life of its own. I watched the NFL Steelers loose this weekend when their veteran star QB threw an interception under pressure that cost them the game - just like SMU's Kevin Jennings did. We can't say, "if he han
Boise guy, here. This is a much better matchup than the numbers suggest. Warren will be the guy to watch. As his game goes, so will PSU's. Two things for Boise that don't get mentioned enough. First, Seyi Oladipo at Nickel has quietly become a monster this season. He will be a problem for Allar. Second, go look at the last drive of the first UNLV game. That drive really defined the personality of the offense and I think reflects what we will see from BSU. They did a grinding 8 1/2 minute drive to close out a close game. It was brutal to watch and I think it will be the gamelan. Make no mistake, for all the things about PSU that BSU has not seen this season, PSU won't have faced an offensive scheme like what they will see. It's gonna be fun.
@yoteduster9534 that was in week 2 against an Oregon team filled with a lot of transfers. The week before Oregon barely beat FCS Idaho. I wouldn't put too much stock in that data point.
Early Merry Christmas, brother. You’ve had my back through some tough times, and you don’t even know it. Your videos bring me joy, brother. Thank you for that.
Good quality video as a Boise fan. Some comments I would make from a Boise fan’s perspective 1) I would describe Boise’s defense as a “Bend don’t break defense.” They give up some yards and big plays, but they also get a lot of takeaways and drive killing sacks and TFLs at critical times, often with well timed blitzes. Feel like I’ve seen a lot of drives where teams get 3 first downs on 3 or 4 plays, then Boise immediately gets 2 sacks and it’s 3rd and 24. Penn State will get yards, it will be a matter of if they can limit big losses and turnovers that Boise’s defense has capitalized on. I think Allar takented, but also far from mistake proof. He played a great game vs Oregon, but his two picks were crushing, if Boise can get a few big plays from it’s defense like that, they will have a good shot 2) Definitely not a hard prediction, but if I was Boise’s offense, I would try to see if I could get Jeanty going in the passing game. He hasn’t done it this year, but last year lead all FBS RBs with almost 600 receiving yards and 5TDs, and was even the #1 graded receiving back by PPR. Did basically Moss a guy vs Oregon but was just out of bounds. With Penn State’s front, I’d try to see if I could get him some more touches and space, in ways defenses don’t have on film. Just something I think nobody is talking about and is something I could see Boise pulling that out of the bag
The thing that makes college football so great is that for 12 days during the fall, middle age alumni can pretend that they still in college. Rah, Rah, Rah.😊
Penn State is 7-0 in the fiesta bowl and played in the largest viewed bowl in the history of college football in 87 to beat Miami for the national championship
Penn State has had a hard time tackling RB's this year. This is the one weakness of the PSU defense. There is a possibility they can't handle the rushing attack from BSU. If PSU can handle this, they should win.
Boise State finds itself in the role of Rocky once again. Maybe not Rocky 1, probably more like Rocky 2. But still expected to lose by TKO if not KO. I can't say the always undogs, Broncos will score an upset. But I will say, We won't get knocked out, and in this version of Rocky 2, just going the distance and giving Penn State all they can handle is a victory to us. The Boise State fans or Adrian's in this story.
Been watching CFB 50 years, I THINK BSU COMES OUT SCORES EARLY AND THEN EVENTUALLY PSU IS TOO BIG, FAST AND STRONG. THIS IS A DIFFERENT LEVEL ATHLETE AT PSU… PSU is extremely well coached.. PSU 27-19
Diddlers? Hahahaha pen st struggled against BGSU almost lost it at USC and minnesota and a blowout in the only game that mattered. Penn st needs to thank Michigan for where there at.
Lay off the bath salts 🧂!!! WE ARE, they aren't 38-13!!! My Nittany Lions will stack the box, and the defensive line will feast!!!! WE ARE, Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅 everyone
Penn State has faced only one top 50 rushing offense-none in the top 25. Indeed, their rush defense is a bit inflated by their games against the #132, 130, 116, 115, 109, 93, and 83 rushing offenses. Against the #52 rushing offense in Oregon, the Ducks bested their season average by about 15 yards. Jeanty ran 192 yards against the Ducks WITH two starters on the oline out with injuries. Boise State has three oline players who will be playing on Sundays, too. This is going to be a tough, low scoring game-probably not unlike the Minnesota game for the Nittany Lions, where every possession will be consequential.

I don't think SMU handed the game over. I think the defense of PSU gave the SMU qb happy feet and he went full of sand lot football.
Correction. It wasn’t the Paterno business. It was the Sandusky business.

That was against UNLV…let’s be serious here, how many players on the UNLV defense would break PSU’s 2 deep?
Ohio States offense is elite. Penn State played them well! IMO Boise State is a one trick pony with Jeanty!

I really love your analysis I will say I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t mention Boise State pass rush it’s one of the best in the country
That's a miss on me. I had put one of the pass rushers in my "key players" feature for that reason but failed to mention it. Good catch.
The two Fiesta Bowl darlings matchup is a fun narrative for this game.
PSU is a blue blood fool

Go Boise State! Its a quick game with a lot of variables, hoping that 80% go BSU's way because they aint gonna win otherwise. I'm a "believer."
