Salute to you Mr Duleep Mendis, a true legend of Sri Lankan Cricket 👍👍👍. Long life to you. One thing that I remember well is, each time, when Sri Lanka went for World Cup tournament, long before they had the wildest dream to get qualified to play final rounds, let alone playing final or winning the game, when Duleep was asked whom he would think as the World Cup winners, he says it’s Sri Lanka without doubt or hesitation. Perhaps it was not that what he 100% believed, but he wanted the players of Sri Lanka needs to believe in, boosting morale. Much later, after being winner and being in the finals numerous times with much competitive side, I have seen players such as Sangakkara names, other teams as his prediction to be the winner before Sri Lanka gets on board to plane to go for the tournament, when asked by international cricket experts, in the pre- tournament, media hype. Sad. In that sense, Duleep is a great Sri Lankan cricketer above many others, that younger generations have started to worship as their idols. 👍👍 One more thing. He was very humble to point out that how Sanath used to be the Demolisher of opponent attack. In my view, it was started by Duleep. Then Aravinda and then Sanath. We used call these guys TNT 😂 These players strategically pick the best of opponent team barrage and hammer them to hide. 😂
I watched that match at Lords in 1984. The disappointment when Dulip got out for 94 was difficult to describe. It would have been a memorable event for Dulip and for all of us. I remember I was late to go to the Lords and when I went to St Johns railway station to buy a ticket ( this was a very small station and I was familiar to the station master) . He was listening the BBC radio commentary. I asked him what the latest score was. He said " we are getting hammered". He thought that I was a British !. In fact, I only came to London a month earlier for my studies. I also watched you hammering west indies at the SSC grounds in the 50 over match. This was in 1975. You hit a straight lofted drive six off Derik Padmore, the off spinner and we won the match. To give you credit, you were one of the very early Sri Lankan batsmen to go after bowlers like current one day players. Hats off to you and good luck in your future endeavours.

Thanks for doing these interviews in Sinhala w English subtitles. Very useful for learning Sinhala. As a little boy in the late 70s/early 80s, Duleep Mendis was my favorite cricketer and I still remember meeting him at the old Perera & Sons on Galle Rd. Even then he was a true gentleman with a ready smile and displayed no false modesty for his appetite.
it's nice to see Mr. Duleep Mendis again in his usual pleasant gentleman mode. i have met him oman in 2013 . played two ODDs against oman national team representing Danube C.C. UAE. he is my dad's hero and never got away from his seat until duleep sir got out.
