      It was the same thing with Apocalypse. Select Apocalypse is same price and overall better value, meanwhile the Legends one was like $10 more. The wings help highlight how there’s no texture on the figure and make it look even worse, lovely

    • @Chalor.
      @Chalor. Місяць тому

      Oh man, I wouldn't want any texturing on the suit. It's supposed to be a smooth spandex outfit with zero texturing. I get what you mean, you prefer the way Mcfarlane does it. Like even when they're trying (and failing) to do a classic costume look, they still sculpt all this criss-cross texturing. It throws off the whole comic book look, and makes it look more like a modern movie version. I think a lot of younger fans don't realize (or just don't prefer) comic characters aren't supposed to have intricately detailed fabric suits.

      I don't defend Hasbro's pricing, but there are some key differences, from a business perspective, between select and legends.
      DST is a way smaller company with way less over head. They aren't publically owned so they don't have to worry about making decisions based on stock holders. The also are less diverse in their product than Hasbro, which benefits them. Less risk of a product line flopping. These things allow them to put out a better product.
      Hasbro is a huge company with tons of over head. They have their hand is all kinds of brands and product lines. If a product fails, they find somewhere else to squeeze some dollars from. They cut corners because they answer to stock holders, not consumers. The larger the company, the lower the quality of a product tends to be.
      You would think it's the other way around, but quality and price tends to be a curve. You start out with high quality and high price. Then as a company grows, price goes down while quality stays high. Once a company becomes Hasbro size price goes back up but quality goes down. It's rare you'll have a big main stream company that sells the volume Hasbri sells that also maintains high standards.

    Another perfectly clear, honest and objective review highlighting the plethora of problems with the action figure industry. At present, the steep price hike for figures is grossly damning; in fact, I would strongly contest insulting [to the consumer(s)]. And the thing is, this is not solely an isolated issue - many companies are held accountable [for] diddling around with half-assed costly action figures. Hasbro is at fault, but they are not alone in this swindle.
    Mister Anthony, I of course appreciate your refreshingly real reviews. An in-depth/deep dive video analysis discussing the action figure industry scam would be a cracking watch to see. Time permitting, of course.

      Yes, yes Anthony should do a video about the current state of the industry. If possible, add in some data regarding the past couple/few decades (especially what ToyBiz was capable of) and what current offerings from various companies cost and what accessories are included. As a Canadian, Hasbro prices are not that far off from Japanese Imports. I used to be a completist for Black Series, Classifieds, and 80-90% of Legends. Collectively they now make up 15% of my toy collecting (and I have not decreased my toy budget, I have merely switched up my focus - Mezco, Mafex, Revoltech, and other imports). Classified and Retro GIJ offer the best from Hasbro IMO, but the prices have increased and even with that line, the plastic, paint and reuse have me walking away from a lot of their products.

    The marvel legends method: Make figures so bad that the slightest bit of effort on new figures makes the hasbros think its figure of the year. 6:15 Yeah, I like the face. The hair sculpt is definitely on the softer side, but even without shading, it doesn't look like a glob of yellow putty in real life under normal lighting. I've vastly prefer the digital dot matrix paint (or whatever it's called), 'cause the applications are very consistent across the board.
    Whenever you have that digital paint, you don't have to order multiple copies with hoping that one will have decent paint apps. Like recently getting Zabu, and having to buy multiple blue Thor's trying to get an okay Zabu head. It's painted in a traditional way, so the eyes are all wonky.

    One thing I can give Hasbro credit for is they do a pretty incredible job of convincing their customer base that they're getting a good deal. It's almost impressive how the hive mind of Legends collectors operates where they're convinced just the smallest amount of new tooling on a figure justifies the expense. Meanwhile we've got companies like NECA that will release some obscure character from a 35 year old cartoon that's all new tooling with no practical use for them going forward and charge a standard rate. Hasbro has just been taken over by the worst of the corporate mind sets which we're seeing invade, or has already invaded, other sectors of entertainment. Where the goal and only goal is to increase shareholder returns and rather than rely on the quality of the product to do the work they find it easier to cut costs and raise prices. And it's apparently working so they're going to just keep doing it.

    I honestly think some people don’t care about collecting action figures. In the sense that they don’t care if it’s a good figure or not as long as it resembles a character that appeals to their nostalgia. Those types have laughably low standards and it’s frustrating reading comments defending these pieces of crap.

    I pay about this same amount for NECA Gargoyles, and while that line isn't perfect I feel like I am getting my money's worth for them. This... nope. It shouldn't cost the same. Though a conversation about these wings versus those wings. I am one of those "they're too thick" people. NECA could have and should have made different choices but this is why I don't think articulated wings would have worked.

    I've been waiting on a new Angel in this suit for... dang, a looooong time. That said, yeah, he's not perfect, but he's really great and has awesome shelf presence with his huge wingspan and bright red color. I'm satisfied, even at $35 and don't feel cheated for what he does for me in the collection. Love em or hate em, Hasbro are pretty much the ones who set the standards of the 6" action figure market and other companies can either undercut them or make them look like a value.

    Mattel made a Hawkman in DCUC with wings just as impressive as that for $10. Okay, that was years ago and I don't expect to pay that now but the idea that Mattel sold a whole figure for what Hasbro are charging for JUST THE WINGS is hilarious.
