Man, i could see this being a great bass to mod. I like that single MM style humbucker placement. Pretty cool bass. Looks killer!
It's so unique. That's what I love about Squier!
Looks to be in the P position.
Great to see they're now offering the Affinity line of basses with all maple necks.
I just purchased an Affinity Precision (black with maple neck) & I'm eagerly awaiting it's delivery. It'll be my first, non-jazz Fender/Squier bass.
Yeah! Ah nice one 😍
Fuck yeeees been so excited to see a quality demo of this bass, none better to look forward to than a demo from you. Love it.
Ah thank-you so much! Should be out in a few days 😊
I picked up a Jaguar H a couple weeks ago, with the thought of modding it. I have never done that before, and wanted to learn the ropes on a less expensive model. I put in an EMG MMHZ pickup, changed out the pots and man I love how this thing plays. This is my first Squier and I love the neck, the finish, the feel, everything.
It sounds great with the EMG pickup.
I noticed it was made in China, and hopefully the Parnormal I have on order will be of the same quality.
Great shout. Thats great! I bet that EMG gives it a bit more character 👍 I think the paranormal are even better quality! ☺
Hey Dean, how’s the MMHZ? I was planning a swap to the active EMG MM but I don’t think there’s a room for a battery.
@@jaxonvictoria4345 The cavity is really small. To fit the pots which came with the MMHZ, I had to use a Dremel and make room. I also used a routing bit to make the hole from the pickup cavity larger to pass the EMG connector. I also had to use the Dremel and make the hole for the pickup in the pickguard ever so slightly larger as it didn't fit over the new pickup.
There's probably room for the battery on its side. But it is really tight. The MHZ sounds great though so I'm happy. The control plate covers the modifciations so it looks like new.
I was waiting for this,I'm really excited for the review
Took a while for them to reach the UK! Thanks for tuning it 😁
only just discovered this channel, jonny you've got me hooked i can't wait to see the full review!
Ah that's amazing! Thanks very much for tuning in 😊
So, your unboxing videos are normally a bit like foreplay but this one is the equivalent of a quickie in a pub car park 😂👍 Awesome bass!
😆😆😆
The new range looks fantastic. This Jag is great. The p bass with the J pup looks out of this world.
Love what they're doing! I nearly picked up the PJ instead of this one, but I could not resist this weird creation!
This looks like a great backup bass to me. Excited for the review!
Could be! Cheers 😁
Wasn't sure what to expect but that sounds nice (especially with the pick and a bit of drive) ...and I quite like the straight-forward no-nonsense look.
It's such a cool concept!
I’ve been looking at one of these. Very ‘bassy’ sound... I like it and look forward to the in depth review.
It is! Thanks 😄
sounds really goood!!
I'm definitely not a beginner player more like advanced and for some strange reason I'm considering buying this guitar. I think it could be the one that is really fun to play and also to being modified in future... In my opinion these ultra cheap squier basses sounds great - low price doesn't mean it sucks. What do you think? :) Great vid btw.
I'll be impatiently waiting for the full review on this one. I'm a fan of the short scale basses but there are only a few that are of good quality. This appears to be one of them.
It's such an interesting bass. Love that about Squier!
I'm looking forward to getting mine.
Off lay-by very shortly.
And compare it to my Player Series PJ Mustang short-scale.
Let me know how they compare! 😄
@@JonnyDibble
Will do.
Hey Johnny! Would you say the maple fretboard is a glossy finish like the Classic Vibe 70s? And would you say the tones you can get in this is suitable for many genres like a P-Bass? Haha cheers man, nice vid!
Hi! The fretboard is glossy but the back is satin. I'd say it has a little less character than a P bass, but uts a deep sound that could sit well in a variety of mixes I think
More than a decent amount of growl... I dig.
Like a dog catching eyes with a postman
Yeah, but I'm sure Jonnie was using some kind of OD to get that.
@@bflo1000 just from 5:13, everything before that is clean 😊
ETA in Australia is early 22 (apparently!) I love the whole thing!
Fender doing ya dirty 😪😪 I love how innovative Squier are!
I have a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special Humbucker. I love that thing. The humbucker is more towards the bridge. Get some pretty cool tones out of it. This affinity looks pretty interesting. Take my money, Fender!
Ah yeah I know the one! Awesome 👌
So stoked for this review brother! Can't wait freaking love Jaguars! I know you said on your podcast and I believe a few of the reviews that your main bass used to be a fender Jaguar. Always been a dream bass of mine but I've gotten hooked on the active tone of my sterling silver sub ray 4! Any chance you would ever pick up a fender player series jaguar and do a review? Didn't know if you would ever go back to your roots LOL as I know you're hooked on the Sterling brand as well🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks and cheers brother keep up the great work!
Hi Zach! Thanks for tuning it 😄 Yeah man, I had the black one they released before the new Players. It was unreal, many regrets. I have the same thing! Everytime I play a bass and then play the sterling I'm always blown away haha. I do want to upgrade to the Ray35 though! I'm hoping Fender will bring put some new Player Jags soon 🙏
@@JonnyDibble Right there with you brother🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 until then we will keep on jamming these sterlings🤘 again great work brother!
just got the Classic Vibe Jaguar in black. love the sound of the medium scale. so fat sounding and style for days
Awesome! Love the look of those jags 😍
I just got the frost metallic and it’s a nice bass, not fond on the pickup but nothing like a Duncan quarter pounder M style can’t fix!
Way cool! I just got mine last night, went casually strolling into my local Guitar Center on my lunch break, couldn’t put the thing down as I was playing it on a Rumble 100. Decided to talk down the price to $205 and jumped the gun 😂
Bartering down a brand new bass. Live that! 😆 Well done. Glad you like it!
That with a turtle shell pick guard would be perfection
That would be cool!
Cool! The first bass I played was medium scale. I didn't notice much difference in playability. I'd like to see a new affinity jazz sometime too and maybe compare it to their jazz offerings that you have reviewed previously?
Nice! What bass was that? That would be cool. I don't have the jazzes with me anymore, but could definitely see if I can get the affinity jazz. I'd like to check out the PJ too 😄
@@JonnyDibble Some sort of P-Bass copy. It was 35 years ago. Lol! We were jamming a lot in college and there were about 8 guitar players and no bass. I always wanted to learn bass so I borrowed one and that started the bass journey. I thought medium scale would be nice coming from guitar. The first bass I actually bought was a Fender Musicmaster short scale. Still have it but it needs a pickup upgrade and maybe more modding. Some day??? I do have an affinity PJ. Imo, the p pickup sounds great the bridge I pup, not so much. I put flats on it and use it as a P- bass. They have a new affinity J in burgundy mist that I am liking. Hope there are some new upgrades in the 2021 line.
I had a jaguar hb on silver with a black pickgiard. The humbucker was closer to the bridge. I put .110 E .090 A .065 D and .040 G ... it had an awesome growl when I needed it but I could play fairly light for melody and solos
I remember the one! Ooh nice 😍
The only thing I didn't like about it was the preamp. It was tricky to dial it in. I played on a rumble 25w and a rumble 100A
Had to send back my copy because it was too neck heavy. Even a proper strap couldn’t mitigate the neck dive. Really wanted to like that strange little thing. Same for you?
That sucks! So I never normally notice neck dive that much because I tend to support the neck naturally quite a lot, BUT having played it stood up now... I have things to say. I won't give too much away before the full review though
The body must be a little smaller than the usual Jaguars because normally the upper horn would reach the 12th fret and it doesn't look like it does here
Yeah you must’ve gotten an example with a heavy neck or a light body. Mine balances well on my non-grippy leather strap.
@@fistinair1979 Jaguars don't have the same weight as a J-Bass because the horns are shortened; Hence the neck dive.
@@bflo1000 I'm building a Jaguar right now. The upper horn is exactly as far up the neck (12th fretish) as a jazz bass. The ends of both designs overlap.
Interesting bass. Although it’s a 32"-scale instrument, it seems like it’s just as long and wide as a long-scale Jazz Bass. The pickup is okay, a bit lacking in top end to my ears. Glad to see Squier making medium-scale basses.
Yeah the jag body elongates the bass, just a smaller neck on there. I agree!
I am an ABSOLUTE beginner in bass and was interested in this one. Would it be any good for complete beginners? Thanks :)
I've bought one in Thomann... I'm waiting for it for more than 2 weeks... Now I see is a good option. (I'm with a Squier Precission now)
Congrats! I hope you like it! 😄
Gorgeous looking bass, definitely see room for a pickup swap. Personally, I’d go for an Aguilar, could make an interesting match:)
I thibknit would definitely benefit from something with higher output ☺
Medium scale...
Does that mean a 32 inch neck ?
Also, it looks totally scrumptious.
🎸🎸❤️❤️🙂
It does 😊 its so cool looking!
Well, that's one hell of a cool bass. I kinda wish the HB was a little closer to the bridge, though. But that might be a bit 'extreme' for many people, I guess.
I think its an interesting choice and looks amazing, but I do prefer a fully bridge position humbucker for that stingray style tone!
@@JonnyDibble The first impressions are great, so, the sound kinda proves them right, I guess. Haha. It feels like they were going for kind of a P-Bass PU placement.
Cool bass jonny, I love the shape, and the neck seems to be confortable...am i right?
I have lots to say about this neck!
That sound is like a Musicman Stingray but its still like singular
i like the black one of this bass..
Big fan!
My orange one came double boxed
hello, this bass like a epihpone thunderbird?
definitely considering getting this, refinishing the body, and putting a man o war in it.
Twinsies!
Tehehee! Wanna swap?
well its my number one contender for an 8 string mod :P i have a bridge ready.
is the neck like a P or a J width? just spacing would be tight on a skinny J neck
Due to the product Page from Thomann it’s 38,1 mm (1,5")
@@TheChristianherud ah so J width 😒 I'll have to go P bass kit 🤷♂️ not a big deal really... Was hoping a medium scale cause that could be fun with dual course.
Oh man, I'd LOVE to see that! It's a modern c, so more jazz bass like but it doesn't feel a bit chunkier
Really cool maybe put some flats on that!
I think that would sound great!
I say, you there, yes, you, the chap in shorts photobombing a small triceratops: is it neck heavy at all? A bit? A lot? Thanks. Carry on.
Ello sir, the neck is quite 'eavy! All will be reviled the the full review
2:00 chunky neck? Interested but I am a JB player...
It feels chunky but small at the same time, weird. Would recommend trying one out!
01:30 - Ric Flair level woo!
WOOOO!
where the shorts really needed ?
Definitely not, I'll take them off next time 🥵😏
They are the reason I clicked 😏
A strange one this. Medium scale and a single pickup in the middle of the body? The review of this one should be interesting. I’m keen to know how that pickup performs.
Recording the review today, I've got lots of thoughts!!
Sweeeeeet
Short but sweeet!
Its seems you have a whole room for yours basses.
Yep! Very lucky to have a partner that accepts my obsessions haha
#122_Cool🐦
“Super interesting tones this thing will produce,” then proceeds to play it unplugged for all to hear a bass in need of a proper setup. 😂. Classic!
Haha yep! I can't resist. Thoughts on the tone?
@@JonnyDibble Replace the stock pickup with a Bartolini/Delano/Aguilar/Seymour Duncan + have it properly shielded, for starters...
@@rsmith7994 yeah I think that would be a good upgrade for anyone getting this one!
it has a too dark timbre and a poorly defined sound, it's not for me ...
Not for me either!
Those boxes are fucking horrible, enough of a reason not to get one of those, there is just no doubt at all that the bass didn't get at least a little bit bent during shipping, Chinese simply don't give a shit about how things get shipped, least they could do is put it in a proper box and fill it with foam, because as "affordable" as they are, on a world standard they're still too expensive, if it's all a person can afford, I think it's fair to ask for better shipping arrangements, because trying to save $3-5 on it is just digustingly cheap from Fender, disgustingly cheap. I won't even comment on their wood cuts, it may seem good and nice at first, but time will swallow these basses for what they really are, trash. Same as Ibanez, Cort, Sire and anything else coming from there
Sorry to hear you've had bad experiences! Tbh this is pretty standard for affordable basses int erms of packing, from my experience I'm not too concerned about that. An American bass is going to be a better investment in the long run, but I wouldn't write off all basses that come from China and Indonesia. They've come a LONG way in the past 5/10 years. You can get lemons, for sure but considering the value for money, I wouldn't persobally class them as trash
Cort and Sire make GREAT basses for the $$. So does SX and HB.
