Bass players always seem happier than guitar players. The lower frequencies must tickle the feel-good bits of the brain or something.
yeah, I guess since they always fade in the back they have less egos, guitarists are mostly just pricks, source: am a guitar player.
Bassist usually have a more laid back less stressful personalities
That and the groove. It gets in your soul
We live in the groove
Bass players=less girls
less girls=less problems
Less problems=happy bass players
This is just me being a picky bugger, but the PJ doesn't have a Jazz neck, it has a 70s Precision/American Special neck shape (P = 43mm, J = 38mm, PJ = 41.3mm)
Yes, I'm available for parties 😂
thank you dude! that is really important information.
The first thing I look for when buying a new bass---or guitar, is the nut width so no, you're not a picky bugger! Just to add my two penn 'orth, a P Bass neck can be anything from about 41.5mm to 45mm depending on the exact model and the age. My first Fender many years ago was a 1962 Precision which had a nut width of 45mm. Lovely!
Yes, it does have a jazz neck profile as he said it did. Nut width is another matter.
Turning this comment in the picky buggers section, the color of the PJ isn’t frost blue but lake placid blue, one of the most classic colors on fender line
@@sandro9898 Indeed sir, I have a 2017 Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ in the same Lake Placid Blue, black pick guard. It look as nearly identical, except the VM has a gloss neck and a high mass bridge.
It actually doesn’t matter what stuff you show. We’re here for Nathan and Lee. 😆
Agreee! Love their banter.
Ahahaha yessss!! Exactly
Facts!! I love this channel but never watch it if it’s not Nathan and lee! They need to write a solo album together
a jaguar w stingray pickups? this is the best timeline
The bass guitar. The most underrated instrument in music history
The Chapman stick. Nahhh jk 🤣
I'm a Guitarist and I wholeheartedly Agree 100%.
It's super, super well-loved and still underrated
Never heard just two bass players jamming before with only drums. That was awesome.
I'm all about the Squier! I've got a Squier Bass, two Squier guitars, and a parts bass with a Squier neck. All of them are unique and functional.
I would watch a 45 minute compilation of just the intro and outro jams these guys do. Seriously great playing.
Porn not doing it for you anymore?
I never really cared that much for this bass channel. Boy was I wrong, these guys can play!!!!
What?! I’m not even a bassist, and I watch every episode of All about the bass, because these guys are both funny and superb players.
P.S Its also worth noting that the older gentleman is the bassist for Frost* !!!
Nathan King is the Brother of Mark King and plays Guitar in Level 42!
@@caprise-music6722 Both these guys just blow me away anytime I have seen them. Very talented players.
Excellent playing, thanks!! That Jaguar bass looks quite stunning!!
I got the PJ a couple years ago after watching these two guys. For the price, no complaints whatsoever.
The jazz bass looks pretty stunning with that graphite finish
Great demo and review as always! I can’t wait to see you try the new 5 string version of the Squier Affinity Jazz Bass!
Appreciate the review. My PJ bass just arrived. Crazy what $229 buys these days!
Great value, I wish these had been around when I was starting.
Nathan an Lee smashing it out the park again jams are quality as are the basses very cool
Man... Squier absolutely killing it... getting one ... 😂.. maybe today..
Glad to see they're finally offering a maple neck/fretboard for the Affinity line.
No more oiling to combat drying or cleaning nasty build-up.
Could you please elaborate on this. I've never owned a maple fretboard, but my next purchase will be. I wonder what you mean.
@lidiaspazzard
I prefer all maple necks on fretted instruments because (from my perspective) they tend to sound brighter and a bit more articulate than rosewood.
An added bonuses are: They don't dry out like rosewood and are far easier to keep clean. For me, they're also more aesthetically pleasing.
However, I do prefer rosewood fretboards on my fretless basses because they complement the warm tones.
Actually, I've only played an all maple fretless one and I didn't like it whatsoever.
Which is why they're so rare.
In summation: The all maple necks suit the sound I prefer, but I'm sure others feel differently.
Ultimately, if you can find identical basses (one maple, one rosewood) you can judge which one you prefer.
I sincerely hope that helps.
@@TenFalconsMusic Thanks for the reply. I've never been able to do a sound comparison between the two, but I certainly agree that maple is more aesthetically appealing. I wasn't aware that they are easier to clean or don't dry out as much though. I'll look into that. They seem rarer too. They never seem to pop up for me, so I'm gonna go get a new one. Anyway, thanks again.
holy shit, that ending jam was absolutely filthy. top playing lads!
Thank you to whoever got the memo to make the Laurel fretboards darker. Those old ones always seemed like gray and ashy no matter if you oiled them or not.
That intro is thickkkk
Damn, why are there no bands with 2 bass players and 1 guitar player? That intro was sick...btw, I am a guitar player thinking of starting bass lately--now I know I will get myself a bass!
These blokes put out some great videos, no bollocks there just great tones.
Great content,that play out jam😎👌👏👏👏
I already have a squier and a fender precision bass but this video made me bought a jazz bass! Well done guys! 😂
That jam was amazing
Enjoy your channel so much!!!!!!!
Lake placid blue is beautiful
Just picked up that Lake Placid blue PJ bass for a mod project. Going to be sick when finished. Thanks for the review.
Is the body thinner than the CV lineup ?
@@r3b0rn80 definitely
i wish they made a fender version of the hum jaguar
Cheers guys!!!!! More “all about the bass” videos please

@@andertons if Mr Peter Honoré was here taht's for sure something he would say!
I’d buy tickets 🎫 to see Nathan and Lee play. They’re awesome 😎 🥇🎆🎉
Give these two blokes any paddles you find and they'll make party in a heartbeat
4:27 "It has the jazz neck". No, the nut width is 1.625. I have both of these! They are very nice indeed for the money.
Lee and Pete, the Batman and Robin of the bass world, out on new adventures. Great start on the weekend. And Fender needs to make a higher end version of the Jaguar H. I'm getting the Squire one, but if Fender goes for a Jag-H I'm pre-ordering that.
Lee and Nathan?
@@charliet.sanford2495 Nathan ofc. My bad. So long since I've seen them. Fixed it now. Thanks.
Pete’s amazing but he’s a guitarist
Seriously you guys play so good, you can make any bass sound great!
Omg dudes… holy lord what a sick jam !!!!
I liked the outro. I really think it would be cool to throw in a percussionist, or e drums with you. or a beat maker on a synth or drum machine. A way to squeeze in gear and have fun! All three bass’s sounded interesting. The kids these days have it made. Cheap gear back in the day was rough. You could record with this new stuff.
Sounds like Nathan was using a bit of drive on his amp. Very nice growl!
Nathan is a monster player. Lee is wonderful as well.
Squires are awesome basses!
Absolutely fantastic intro and outro jams! Where can I find more music like this? Recommendations please.
Into sounded like primus or one of les claypools bands? Probably wrong but.....
Cheers good luck
Best intro ever
Yeah I have a one for 30 years had it on stage
You guys have to review the the EBMM Dark Ray!!!!
Thanks for the video, awesome energy and good sounds! One question, is it ok to install shorter strings on a long scale bass? The right size gauge goes an inch over the nut and then the string starts to go thiner. I installed it, it plays ok, but later noticed that I could have bought long scale strings ... could I have any issues along the way?
Awesome I'm planing to get one to my birthday on 27th July
The jazz bass matches your suit! Looks like a winner! Happy Birthday 🎂
I'm a sucker for jaguars, may take that one
Holy cow.. what an intro
I bought the blue one and I'm in the midst of modding it to death :) New SD pickups, hipshot bridge, Schaller tuners. I was really surprised how good the bass was right out of the box.
Im a guitar player and preordered the Jaguar in lake placid to replace my eb-3 and couldn’t be happier now I need to find someone who wants to buy the eb-3
I’m planning on getting the silver Jaguar
Yes! Confirmed. These are from the Indonesian Factory. I feel that is somewhat better than the China factory.
The Jaguar actually sounded pretty good.
Can we see more of that Jaguar bass?!!
We need new colour options for the classic vibe 60’s jazz and precision basses 😭 maybe some FSR
Any info on the amps you were using?
Which would you choose between a Squier Paranormal Rascal Bass HH or a Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar Bass?
Hi guys, is the maple fretboard on this Affinity Series basses raw or gloss? Many thanks
What are the amp settings and effects used?
I want that Jaguar Bass purely to play like Mike Kerr in Royal Blood!
Nathan had to work to get the high E! 😂
Are the Sire Marcus Miller 4-string Jazz basses ever coming back in? They've been out of stock for what seems like forever.
Edit: Oh, and fantastic playing, as ever.
Joe Dart would love that Jaguar bass :)
So much groove and fun for the $. I have to ask, though...what's with the Rush Tom Sawyer effect intro? 😂
you guys could make a stick and a tub look good , I traded off my mim jazz . I might give one of these a try with a good set up almost anything is playable if it doesn't have sharp fret ends.
My first bass was a squier. As much as they do look, sound and feel good the first time, my experience has been that they really aren’t meant to be played beyond the beginner phase for the very simple reason that they don’t last that long! By the first year of putting in at least north of 500 hours as well as few gigs here and there, a tuner broke off one fine day for no reason. Then the pickups shorted out two months later and the bridge started having problems. Worst is, I’m not the only one who’s experienced these problems with squiers. They’re great to get you started, but they’re really not great investments. Regardless, love the cool video!
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your Squier. It sucks to learn on an instrument that's not treating you right.
However, I've been playing for 40 years and I have never had any trouble with any of my Squiers. They require maintenance and repair like any guitar. I'm not in love with every single Squier pickup and wiring harness I've ever owned, and I've replaced some, but none have failed. Similarly, I've occasionally been annoyed by the amount of play that develops in the tuners over they years, but I've never had to replace them, as I can still tune up accurately and stay i n tune. My #1 gigging bass is a stock Indonesian Squier Mustang. It's 10 years old and rings like a bell. #2 is a parts bass I made that has an old Squier Affinity P-Bass neck.
@@jkf9167 Hey Josh. Firstly, am very happy to hear that your experience with Squier has been better than mine.
The tragedy with my instrument has been I was head over heels in love with the instrument. It sounded exactly how I wanted it to and honestly, preferred the sound even over some fender Mexican models. I have a 70s vintage modified jazz bass with entire bass being made from maple and because of that, it sounds so bright yet resonant. Hence I was so sad to see it completely disintegrate the way it did. The funny thing was, most of my buddies who bought squiers had very similar problems and for most of us, we got to the point where repairing the instrument would actually cost us as much as buying a new one. That bass I bought will be with my forever no question, but I do wish it would have held together for a while longer 😊.
Hardware is very replaceable.
I have had my VM Jaguar bass for about 4 years and it has been gigged plenty. Other than changing the strings then I have done nothing to it. My mate also bought one as he liked mine. He uses it to teach so it has been carted around lots and again he has had no problems.
@@emleyjames5626 wow seems my friends and I have been dealt a rather bad hand with squiers then😂.Perhaps I do stand corrected.
You missed the split function on the Jaguar ☺️
Rocco Prestia in the house on the end jam.
Where does the bass end and the player begin on that frost gray!?
Medium scale bass? Yes please.
Phat outro
They should offer P Bass in sunburst.
They do but only in the starter pack
I would love to hear a sound like Rammstein with/by busting the bank from you guys
That jaguar will get love off the royal blood fans. Looks like it it based off mike's bass
Giggitty INDEED sir!!!
Nathans playing may have something to do with he's Mark King's brother. He also plays guitar with his brother in Level 42
A Jaguar H with a 34 inch scale would be great to swap the neck and use a fretless one instead (Mick Karn mode ON)
Small question : does the PJ has the 70s spacing for the bridge pickup ?
Specs are probably on the website. There was a post about how the neck was in the middle between the J and P width wise. The nut shouldn't effect p-up spacing much, where as the bridge would much more. I think the biggest problem would be if it fit the pocket.
I never meant to swap a 32’’ neck with a 34’’ one…
I just wish Squier would make a 34’’ version of their already existing Jaguar so I could use a 34’’ fretless neck (I know there is a Mexican one but it has a P/J design)
Could measure how slimmer is the body of those basses ?
Ah, what about that Music Man mug?
Wish they would show us the weight.
I was getting the blue one then I decided to get back to my original thought and get the classic vibe jag bass
The bass guitars in this video are now officially ex-demo models! Run, don't walk, to Andertons now! :-)
it's the bethed of boast worlds
Starting to think you could give these two a mop with strings drawn on and they would play the arse off it
with this haircut lee looks like a family friendly version of the current bassist for queens of the stona age
why can't they make a simple pbass for that price range?
They used to years ago
Almost had a hint of shake hands with beef
Hmmm im kinda on the fence i had an affinity and it was the worst bass i ever had.
Listen to you 2 tear it up!
Thank goodness they got rid of that hideous red color. These look superb.
It'd be awesome if they would make a Medium scale p/j... I'd be all over it in a heartbeat
Ibanez Mezzo covers that ground at a similar budget?
The Classic Vibe Jaguar has a P-J configuration and is medium scale.
Giggity giggity - So Quagmire stole that from the Brits...
#TeamSquier
How heavy are these?
Good question…
Affinity series have a slimmer body so a smaller weight should be expected.
Too bad they didn’t use basswood which is less dense and less heavy than poplar :-/
Seen a site that quotes the Jazz it stocks as weighing 8lb 4oz.
“That’s two too many bass players” -Jack White
👍🤣😂😃
I don't know why but the PJ sounds much fuller than the Jazz. The amp and settings are not right for the Jazz. I hear clipping. Their playing is outstanding but the sound is sub par.
That jaguar bass kicks some serious a$$. And it's black. Mmmmmmm......
and as usual us lefty’s are shit out of luck
Sorry
@@andertons meh, not your fault.. squire need to get their act together. i would absolutely buy that LPB bass lee is playing if it was a lefty. ☹️
You say ceramic magnets like its a good thing... everyone used to rip out the ceramic magnet pickups on their squiers in the past to drop in Alnico pickups. Ceramic is a price choice not a sonic one imho.
NO ! Not necessarily, Bartolini p-ups are well thought of and most are Ceramic. I prefer the sparkle of AlNiCo for guitar, but for bass either sound good w one more traditional and sweet, and the other w more punch and low end. Ceramic gets a dirty name, because the magnets ARE cheaper and used on crappy budget p-ups.
