I knew Paul for a long time. He used to come around to our house when I was young and he was such a character. You either loved him or hated him, but when he’d had a drink he was a nightmare. I once saw him laying in the road outside of Thornes Park. I tried to wake him up but I couldn’t. We called an ambulance and waited with him till it came. He did wake up and I’ll never forget he turned to me, no idea who I was, and said, “You should have left me there”. Two people in one body.

People watch the documentary of him where he was acting for the cameras, they buy jamies books and it builds up this portrait of the man. In reality he was an unemployed man living on a council estate and a man with no obvious prospects. If you had met him in the 90s like i did you would have found him to be down to earth and softly spoken when he was not drunk.

I lived on Lupset, ive seen cars and vans full of police going up the street to pauls House, you knew exactly where they were going...they were always at least 3 cars and a van full of old bill. He was a nightmare for police, doormen in Wakefield etc.. when he was banned from the pubs n clubs, he'd go to nightclub doormen, and get them to go grab him a crate from behind the bar! There seems to be an unending list of 'true crime' characters around these days. Either in books, youtube channels or both. 'Hard' men that now repent and want to contribute to society, yet seem to revel in their old stories of crime and violence. The truth is, most of them have just got old, way past their prime and the new breed would beat them up or probably just knife them.
It wasn't tragic. I would not personally piss on anyone. Nor would I ever set a human being on fire. I wouldn't kick or punch a semi-conscious old drunk. Those are bestial things to do. But Paul Sykes was so far beyond being a bully for the first 40 years of his life. He was a dangerous sexual predator. A true psychopath. He was sadistic. He reveled not just in making his victims feel fear & pain but in humiliating and degrading them. Ironically he spent 20 years finding out how it felt to be the victim of people a lot like himself. That is what happened. I have no sympathy or admiration for Sykes and none at all for his tormentors. . I feel for his many victims and I hope they found peace at some point in their lives. But I know enough to realise that many of them did not. It is for them I'll save my empathy. This man left the world worse than he found it. The fact of him being an abused child did not give him leave to abuse so many other children when he grew to be a man.

We learned about this fella in High School. The Screws from Durham would come and have a talk with all the lads in the last year, a scared straight sort of thing. I remember them asking, "what would you do if another prisoner tried it on with you" and one of the lads said "I'd snap his jaw" to which the screw replied "we had a champion boxer in, used to knock out young lads and have his way with them. He tied them to the bed, and would put a page 3 on their back" one of the Female Teachers was crying, due to the story. They might have said His name, but I don't remember... they were 100% talking about this fella though.

They wouldn't have done anything back in the day, or in front of Michael or Paul jnr. I lived on Lupset, ive seen cars and vans full of police going up the street to pauls House, you knew exactly where they were going...they were always at least 3 cars and a van full of old bill. He was a nightmare for police, doormen in Wakefield etc.. when he was banned from the pubs n clubs, he'd go to nightclub doormen, and get them to go grab him a crate from behind the bar! He couldn't even go to an off licence for ale, banned fom everywhere! Sad how he died. Ive seen his gravestone as hes burried near my old pal. His headstones got a picture of boxing gloves on it.
True. I served him 4 cans of special brew a few days before he died. He refused to leave the shop and 3 vans turned up just to kick him out.

That pub brawl could have been the time he was beaten outside the horse & Jockey, Ossett. It wasn’t a pub brawl !! He was beaten by 5-6 men and kicked around the street. Do I have sympathy??? No. I think tat would be an insult to the young men he abused and bullied throughout his sad life.

So many stories like this around all the time, A guy in his prime was hard as fuck would knock this person out that person out and everyone was scared of them and there reputation or whatever and they were a big Drinker or an alcoholic, Used to abuse there kids violently and knock there wife about and bully them, Then when they hit 60 and they get frail and the booze has done the head and the reactions have gone and they start to mellow and regret how they were they want sympathy
That is true it must be quite scary actually if you’ve had a reputation an had people feared of you then all of sudden you get old and no longer have the strength you did but you’ve made a lot of enemies I’ve seen in jail men who was serious an hab the run of the wings In there time suddenly getting a lot of shit because they are older

There seems to be an unending list of 'true crime' characters around these days. Either in books, youtube channels or both. 'Hard' men that now repent and want to contribute to society, yet seem to revel in their old stories of crime and violence.
The truth is, most of them have just got old, way past their prime and the new breed would beat them up or probably just knife them.

Very old in the second picture. He died age 60. Your extremely biast, liver disease killed him and his skin is showing signs of it. Give it a rest ,
It wasn't tragic. I would not personally piss on anyone. Nor would I ever set a human being on fire. I wouldn't kick or punch a semi-conscious old drunk. Those are bestial things to do.
But Paul Sykes was so far beyond being a bully for the first 40 years of his life. He was a dangerous sexual predator. A true psychopath. He was sadistic. He reveled not just in making his victims feel fear & pain but in humiliating and degrading them.
Ironically he spent 20 years finding out how it felt to be the victim of people a lot like himself. That is what happened. I have no sympathy or admiration for Sykes and none at all for his tormentors. . I feel for his many victims and I hope they found peace at some point in their lives. But I know enough to realise that many of them did not. It is for them I'll save my empathy.
This man left the world worse than he found it. The fact of him being an abused child did not give him leave to abuse so many other children when he grew to be a man.

We learned about this fella in High School. The Screws from Durham would come and have a talk with all the lads in the last year, a scared straight sort of thing.
I remember them asking, "what would you do if another prisoner tried it on with you" and one of the lads said "I'd snap his jaw" to which the screw replied "we had a champion boxer in, used to knock out young lads and have his way with them. He tied them to the bed, and would put a page 3 on their back" one of the Female Teachers was crying, due to the story.
They might have said His name, but I don't remember... they were 100% talking about this fella though.
