Appreciate the heads up. I've already declared war on fruit flies (indoors, I mean). I can quite happily add crane flies (I've always thought they're pretty pathetic things).
Hi, Thanks for sharing these videos, these are very helpful and we are fortunate to get these Videos! In have a question, hope you help. I want to overseed my lawn, also my lawn has too much moss and it’s thin with some weeds. Do I still have time to put Mo Bacter and then overseed my lawn before the winter? How do you suggest? Many thanks in advance.
Yes you can! The mobacter will get to work on the moss.. although it is slow going, so chances are you wont get it all "eaten" by the bacteria but it will do its job and the fertiliser in it will help too.. definitely can make a start
Hi Mate Would covering your lawn with black sheeting from say, Nov to March kill the grass, all weeds and leatherjackets. ready to start from scratch next year
Shaun, thanks for the video. Think the crows are digging for the grubs right now, so would you still leave four weeks and apply your Turfsolv? Have seen the craneflys in the past few days.
Hi turfsolv any time is fine usually but yes to wait till the cranefly have laid their eggs and theyve hatched which is usually 2 weeks after seeing them
Fortunately, this is one pest that I don't see often. I saw five or six last year, but thought they were from the dragonfly family and didn't touch them. Now I know it is NOT a dragonfly and it has been removed from my protected species list.
My yard is invaded…. Just two days ago in NYS they were in my yard just like this…. Borrowing into the ground… they cause a TON of damage and the DEC has them listed as an invasive species.
@@LawnRight I guess they really are invasive... I just wonder why my lawn seems to be the only one affected. We all live by a creek so.. lots of water everywhere
Craneflys or Daddy Long Legs....NOT dragonflies. Two totally diferent parts of the insect genius. Just to clarify, as you kept saying dragonflies which is incorrect. Just so people dont start stamping on dragonflies who are innocent of causing lawn damage.
I feel like i see them all year long. I live near lakes. This year my lawn didnt look lush as last year and i think it was because of the leatherjackrts.
Its no joke i had a leatherjacket infestation and they completely stripped my lawn. Birds had a field day with them but it wasnt enough. There were hundreds of them.
Thanks for that Shaun, forgot about those blighters. Scarified my lawn 3 months ago, got tons of thatch out. As today i realised my products wasn't penetrating the roots. So i power raked with tines, i was gob smacked. Piles of it Shaun.
Great stuff Shaun, I can't believe you've just posted this up! Just last night I ordered nematodes and a Miracle Gro Feeder exactly for this purpose! I'd just over seeded about 10 days ago and only removed the fleece yesterday and last night after dark, there were crane flies all over the place on that lawn. I'm still watering regularly for the grass seeds so as long as these nematodes hurry up and arrive I should be able to get them watered in as just another step. Cheers Mick
Cranefly, birds, foxes, squirrels, rats, all vermin. Eradication unfortunately isn't permitted in our leftie country so we have to rely on scents to deter them. Urine works well for the four legged annoyances and sheets for the flying brats. 👍
One of the worst things about them is that , come spring, birds will dig holes in your lawn to get at the leatherjackets. This can make a terrible mess of your lawn. Please note “daddy long legs” do not bite! You will never find dragonflies near a lawn unless you have pond or are close to fresh water lakes. They are aquatic and a totally different species to Craneflies.

Starting to see an increase in crane flies up here in the north of Scotland 😞
😩😩
Seen a few popping about the lawn, they get my foot on top them! I've used nematodes a few times and now your turfsov.
Hi Mate

Hi most likely yes.. If theres no light it will die
@@LawnRight
Sorry to be pain mate, but covering it would kill leatherjackets or chafer grubs outright. I appreciate your advice in advance

@@LawnRight Shaun, that’s great. Have placed an order.

Thank goodness you do't get too many.. Hope all is well in lawn-land!
Yes I’ve had the first crane fly on my lawn yesterday thank you Shaun just another problem to keep under control 😟👍

@@LawnRight I've been battling them for 3 years.. I bought this house and learned fast what they were
How about leaving the grass longer so it's harder for them to lay their eggs? Would that work?
I'm not wholly convinced it would.unless lawn is really thick

Very good advice 👍👍cheers
Nantwich in Cheshire there’s thousands on the grass I look after. Approx 6 acres of grass!

They are nasty…. Kill the roots so you don’t notice right away…. Looks just like female dog pee spots

Fantastic!
I thought pesticides for leather jackets had been banned even for professionals. Can they be used again now ?
Acelepryn has been licensed now for professional application

Birds are vermin? Thank fuck I don't live in a rightie country.
