I put a fleece over my rear garden, highly recommend, excellent germination and keeps the birds away. Removed it on day 13 excellent result plus you can keep it for again sometime. Your a hard grafter Shaun!!
I carried out a lawn restoration on my front lawn after we moved in before Xmas and as spring kicked in realised it had been badly maintained. It was full of moss and weeds. I followed all the steps in your videos less the roller (which I did by walking on instead as rollers aren’t cheap for 1 use). And the lawn looks amazing now. All the neighbours are now buying scarifiers and going over their lawns. Thank you for these great informative videos.
I followed your instructions from another similar video and the results are amazing. I am still fighting patches of weed grass (a bugger to get rid off), but today neighbour complimented on its looks!
Excellent demonstration Shaun - from a dead and barren desert to a lovely green lawn😁😁😁. Well done. I would love to see this in a few weeks/months time when it has been mowed a few times and matured. Thank you
This was such a satisfying video to watch. I've never seen so many applications! Your attention to detail is really inspiring. Each one made total sense and gave me some new ideas for my annual lawn renovation.
It looks good and I have have just followed your instructions 5 weeks back to repair I big ded patch were tramperline was and I am pleased with results intact new blades of grass look so green compared to old grass
All of my customers lawns are crappy but most of my customers are old and wanted a gardener and not a lawn. They don't have the money to spend out, but I do what I can with my Screwfix scarifier which is actually very good for the price. 👍
Great to see you comeback to the lawn in the same video or at all really. Not a lot of these videos do that. Wish I could contract you here in Norway 😀
This was hilarious watching you fight the birds. Even though much of it was speeded up I just kept laughing at the cheeky birds. Great job 👌 P.S. finally saw one of your jobs a few weeks later this was brilliant so satisfying 😊
I didnt know mixing grass seed types was a thing, i have a half shady half sunny grass area and it's what I'll do next time. Great video as always thank you
If you haven't already, are you able to do a video showing certain pests like the types of grubs that you need to keep an eye out for, how to check for them, and other issues that you should look out for as early signs of a problem? As well as how to address and treat each pest or problem. You could get affiliate links for products so people can buy the products you recommend. I could see the algorithm showing your video to anyone searching in Google and UA-cam on 'how to stop pests/disease in my grass' and be a long term popular video that's helpful for many years to come. I think it could make a great video like 'How to identify pests and problems that may destroy your grass early on'.
Not sure if you’re aware but acelepryn was just approved for use in the UK (obviously you need a license to spray professionally, isn’t allowed for domestic use.
I have watched several of your videos and it is helping me improve my knowledge. The biggest issue I have to deal with are weedy lawns. Crab Grass is one of the worst. Some lawns have no grass left. What would you do?
Nice job! I'm in the exact same position due to leatherjackets... God they are a pain. Reseeded and then reseeded again today due to birds, (tbh the Starlings got alot of the grubs) fingers cross for the next few weeks!
Hi... Not nice what your family coping with at present, times like this we need luck and support.. Thanks for all you videos last Spring 2023 in NZ I followed your lawn scarify and aerate top-dressed and reseed and wow wow wow. going into end of summer here my lawns are green and lush with cutting x 2 weekly they are so firm and tight... Question should I repeat last spring process or my thinking a light scarify, overseed bare area and a light topdressing. ( brought a landzie, not cheap but easy application) Thanks Warren NZ. good Luck with your camper
Hi Warren! Aw that's so god to hear and makes me feel proud! If it's super happy Id just go with a light scarify, seed and light dressing absolutely! Thanks.. Ive not even thought about the camper for a few weeks, but Im sure going too get back into it soon
Thats what I call an awesome job 😉 . What was the fertiliser you used after applying the compost before watering ? And how many bags of compost would I need for a 160sq mtr lawn if using a compost roller ? I'm stunned how good that looks.well done. Kind regards Danny
Great video and transformation, can turfsolv or such solutions be applied any time of the year? Can it be done in the summer or during hot sunny weather or is it better to wait for the cooler months?
Very informative video Shaun.Wish we could clone you. Do nematodes work through grass into the soil? Is it okay to returf in June and apply nematodes in July? Have a big patch of eye sore in the garden. Thanks 🙏
Great video, thanks you. I got my own mud patch for a lawn unfortunately after leatherjackets destroyed it! Is the process the same for this type of grub?
Hi yes.. It can be done by hand. Either grab a handful between both hands and rub hands together, or dump piles every couple of metres and rake or brush it about.. Just be careful this 2nd way if it's on bare soil as it can move seeds best to sprinkle between hands on bare stuff
Hi Chris.. you can place piles on the floor and gently rake or brush them about... if its totally bare though Id just rub it between your hands as piles might move some of the seeds
Ive a lawn that was 60% moss, ive treated it, thinking of autumn reseed and using the garden fleece, thanks to your vids. Were on heavy clay soil, so should benefit from aerating, what areas do you work in? Your accent sounds not too far from me on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border.
Brilliant video as usual. I've recently done a similar renovation on my lawn , 2 weeks ago I seeded and put compost on, all seems to be germinating well but the old grass is getting rather long, have been watering 3 times a day. Can I mow it or wait until new grass has established?
Hi you can definitely mow it but just go very steady and only take the tops off.. also maybe hold out a few more days.. in an ideal world we would have the new stuff looking pretty good too..I always try and wait at least 2 weeks after its come up
I had a similar issue and ended up cutting 3 weeks after seeding. Worked out fine. I wore trainers with plastic bags over them to avoid churning up the ground too much. Also held off watering for 18 hours or so.
Hi I know that Jack's magic used to contain peat as did a lot of composts and were all usually good for seed covering so yes if the pest is part of a multipurpose compost you should be fine
Hi..I just put the pegs in mine and pushed them half way down not fully down.. so the fleece has a little wiggle room that also allows air flow. So far so good..
I know you’re in the other part of the country but I know that you are the only professional that can sort my garden out in London. Would you be up for the challenge. I’ve had it re-turfed a few years ago but it’s full of moss in part of the garden, the rest is full of weeds. It needs scarifying, reseeding. I could send you photos of the garden and perhaps if you could help, you could provide me a quote? I genuinely believe that only you can fix my garden.

Daniel Hibbert always uses a fleece I think they have alot of plus points myself he also sprays it with a wetting agent to help the water from pooling on top!
He doesnt aerate his lawns though and if I was going to use 1 or the other hollow core way better Wetting agent is more for summer drought than heavy down pours
Hi just replayed it and it does seem odd lol but I think what I was saying is I came here 3 weeks ago quote and that was the first time I had seen the lawn as they were brand new customers
This is an expensive repair job because it is labor and time intensive. All of the damage to the lawn could have been prevented if the owners had treated for grubs at the appropriate time in the spring.
Never fails to amaze me how much a cut and scarify instantly improves lawn like that.

Dont know how you do this everyday shaun . Done front and back renovation and im knackered!!!!😂😂😂

Hi thanks ill certainly add this to my ideas list
as long as everyone's happy 👍massive improvement 😊
Wonderful transformation!
Great job and a massive improvement. Thanks for all the useful advice.

Great job. I reckon if you’d held off one more week/until it had its first cut it would have been worth it for the real wow factor

Hi it was turfsolv to help with grub issues.. one bag with roller could do 10 or so square metres depending how well it comes out the spreader
Always a thumbs up!
Great video and transformation, can turfsolv or such solutions be applied any time of the year? Can it be done in the summer or during hot sunny weather or is it better to wait for the cooler months?
Hi any time of the year for turfsolv. Avoid blazing heat as itll evaporate so on hot days do it really early in the morning
@@LawnRight thank you.
Great job.
Thank you! Cheers!
Very informative video Shaun.Wish we could clone you. Do nematodes work through grass into the soil? Is it okay to returf in June and apply nematodes in July? Have a big patch of eye sore in the garden. Thanks 🙏
Hi yes all good and work fine but ideally the nematodes want easy access to the soil.. So either aerate or apply nematodes before the turf goes down
I had a Robin follow me around the garden when i was scarifying 4 weeks ago
Great video, thanks you. I got my own mud patch for a lawn unfortunately after leatherjackets destroyed it! Is the process the same for this type of grub?
Hi yes.. Once the girbs are dealt with it's just.acase of fixing the lawn.. Scarify, aerate, seed and topdress
Any suggestions on how to spread the compost over the seed ( top dressing?) if you don’t have one of those cylinder spreaders?

@@LawnRight Many thanks Shaun. Love the videos. I have never had a perfect lawn, but you have inspired me to give it a go. 👍

Hi we are south Yorkshire. There is sma0 on our website where we cover but I imagine you will probably still be out of our area

@@HJM49125 thanks Matt that's reassuring.
Silly question, does tap water, which is basically infused with chlorine, damage the grass/plants?
Not that I'm aware but maybe there's some studies somewhere
I put that Wickes Compost down on my lawn when I renovated, couldn't fault it for the price point
Great transformation does the TurfSolv kill the Grubbs or leather jackets??
Hi it controls grub numbers
In my area, peat moss seems to be more available than compost, especially pricewise. Have you had success with peat as seed covering?
Hi I know that Jack's magic used to contain peat as did a lot of composts and were all usually good for seed covering so yes if the pest is part of a multipurpose compost you should be fine
If you use fleece do you try and peg it so it’s not touching the surface or is it okay laying directly on top?
Hi..I just put the pegs in mine and pushed them half way down not fully down.. so the fleece has a little wiggle room that also allows air flow. So far so good..
Hi, what size nozzle do you use on you knapsack sprayer? Ive tried the green ones and it seems a bit fine, thanks
Hi it depends what your using it for. Weedspray needs a fine mist, iron heavier.. as for emerald green I use the hypro 110 4
Can you advise how long I should water an over seeding lawn please? Twice a day for how long, with just a hose? Or sprinkler? BOOMEL
Hi youve gota keep them dmp till theyve germinated os at least twice a day.. then you can reduce things after that
When would you say the best month in Autumn might be for putting seed down but not having heavy rain? Cheers
hard to say could be September ish
Any tips to make moles move out from the lawn?
Sorry not really other than setting traps
have chafer grub got worse in recent years? the box hedge caterpillar have been really bad the last couple years
Ive seen more and more over the last 20 years to be honest.. the decline in available treatments hasn't helped
Is it ok to walk on lawn after a renovation ?
I would ideally keep off as much as possible as you may disturb the seeds..
