He played well? If his forehand had any aggressiveness, he could finish those matches within 4 sets. I watched the last match vs Vukic, Draper gave so many opportunities to Vukic by hitting soft forehand. I'd say those 3 five setters facilitated his injury.

With the number of five setters in a Grand Slam and the physicality of today's tennis, I think that one should seriously consider extending the average rest time for the players from 2 to 3 days. After a grueling five-setter, it's almost impossible to be in decent shape two days later.
This is why i consider novak's 2012 AO win the best slam win by a Big 3 member. Played a 5 hour semi and a 6 hour epic against nadal in the final. Just how do you manage to wring out the stamina for that?
Exactly, I think you could compare a long 5-set match that gets really physical to a competitive marathon. It requires an incredible amount of endurance to keep going for 4+ hours at a high intensity. If the grand slams were extended to last 3 weeks instead of two this would be less of an issue and players could be mostly fresh for every match.
It would be difficult to have 3 day rests. Fans would not be happy that go to see these live. Perhaps they could interject an extra day that one could use. Not sure how they would work that out though. I think the only solution is to allow players to have rest in between tournaments. Not sure how that would be done either. Tennis is a brutal sport on the body with years and years of stop and start. Maybe its just not meant in general to be a longevity type sport. I think with the style and power pushing the body to the max now that they will hit a wall with injuries. The body is an amazing adaptable resilient creatiob but sports sciencd can only do so much without some chemical enhancement to build or heal. And even then you are looking at issues with damage.

that hug at the end literally melted my heart. Such two good, talented lads! I wonder if the male tennis would be losing too much by shortening the matches to 3 sets maximum.
Alcaraz has tightened up his game in reaction to Sinner's 2024, which is a good sign. Even a healthy Draper was not going to win this match - not on hardcourt. There's been a lot of commentary & press about Alcaraz on hard courts, indoor hard courts, etc - but he still has great potential on them, he's very effective on them. He won his first slam on indoor hard so the tools are there, even if the execution is still in construction given his youth.
Yeah no, I get the sentiment but the first few rounds are what the heart and soul of all the GS. That's where we see new players pop up. Make them best of three and soon the top seeds will be playing each other every single time and we lose the charm of it
When I say they should make Women’s Slams also 5 sets I get attacked. It’s that or they make the slams 3 sets as well for men. They’re earning the same no? Not fair at all. Anyway poor Jack. Congrats to Carlos. I’m happy he’ll be fresher for the next match.
The women have the same expenses and need to train just as hard for years The more work argument in GS five sets is shallow. Five sets involve minimal added work and in the case of some ATP players they train less than the average women on WTA. Kyrgios for example has done 5 setters but hardly trained. The important issue is revenue generation since we live in a capitalist society. The garbage collectors in my neighborhood work just as hard as ATP champions and do not get paid the same
Carlos is fast, has power, and is fairly creative (uses tactics) in rallies. He's probably going to be a handful for players to deal with in the coming years. Will be interesting to see if Novak can beat him next round. Should be a killer match.
I'm not sure Carlos is hitting with enough depth to trouble Novak, who is taking the ball very early at the AO this year. I give a slight edge to Novak.
Sinner’s body and style of play is more suited for AO than Alcarazs’ is . Sinner has more probability to beat Novak at AO, but too bad he will meet Novak in the final . Novak will be Novak 10-0 AO finals . Alcaraz will not beat djokovic in the quarters . Djokovic wins in 4 or even 3 straight sets .
Carlos is bring his A game...speed, court savvy, ball placement n striking n a power serve! Sad that Draper had to retire. It's never good to see a match end like this. Perhaps they should consider shortening the number of sets in the opening rounds
Unreal that no one is talking about 5 set matches for men in grand slams. Where is the equality? Men are retiring at a very high scale. If men get paid same as women, they should play 3 sets. This 5 set business is absurd
As Men, we want to see battles. We eant to see who is the one standing in the end after so much suffering and struggle. 5-set matches make the battle even where luck and momentum are not enough. We don't want women struggling for 5 sets. Only the pay structure should be different
It’s not absurd. In fact this is exactly how it should be grand slams are only for the best players with high endurance. And men are physically more stronger than women, bo5 is not a problem, never has been
Alcaraz has had an incredibly difficult draw. Everyone talks about Draper’s road but what about Carlos?! He had to face Nishioka and Borges both legends in the making before playing Draper who looked fit and fresh.
4:06 Carlos couldn’t afford to play like this in his next match against Novak. How easily he gifted a break point to Draper after all hard-work he put to earn it.
💯, he got mentally rattled but he will be the last person to underestimate Novak. Nothing less than his best level and then some will work in a night match. Carlos doesn't like the night conditions too much, but he is going to play a different style for sure.
@DjokovicNivak Yes it's a night match, but what makes you think it will be easy for either player? slower conditions will mean longer rallies. of course Carlos cannot afford mental lapses. if he does, no chance but he returns well and if he is locked in mentally absolutely.
AO has done disservice to the men who have to play 5 set matches in the summer heat. Soft/heavy Dunlop 🎾 that fluff up like 🥎 and are soooo sloooow + Really rough slow courts this year = grueling points and long matches. Players are saying the surface is as slow as a clay court. Long points are nice, but it takes away from attacking players having a chance and it wears down the men’s bodies so they end up retiring or playing so poorly from exhaustion (Draper, Fokina, others)
Carlos looked great, but his level still dips at times and he still has 'trouble' keeping his foot on the gas. This match should have been 6-3, 6-1. He completely overwhelmed Draper.

If women’s Grand Slam matches are not best of 5 sets then they shouldn’t be paid the same. That’s inequality.
AGREED! Women should play 5 setters in GS like the men if they want to be paid the SAME! No exceptions! Not like they're playing the opposite sex anyway..
Grand Slams need to be incredibly taxing. That is what separates them from regular tennis matches. They are the Tour De France of tennis. Why women get paid the same as men for GS when there is no distinction in difficulty for them compared to regular tennis matches is truly unfathomable.
