Thank you very much for this EXCELLENT video Matthew. I just bought a DJI Mini 4 Pro which only has one USB Type C receptacle on the DJI RC 2 controller. Can I use my RC 2 controller for plugging-in the DJI Mic receiver as you did with your Mini 3 Pro controller? If not...is there some other way I can use the DJI Mic with my DJI Mini 4 Pro?? Thanks again!
Wow... About to use my drone at an event and really wanted to have easy audio with the drone footage without having to over complicate it. Thanks so much for this video! Huge help! I'll be using my Rodes for this.
@Mattheww Brennan thanks Matthew for for the informative and enriching videos you upload. Can you specify what exactly should i order at the dji store in order to record a Mini 3 Pro flight?
I am leaving the comment in support of this video. The content is on point, and was very useful, not like most other videos on youtube with fluffed-up videos. Thanks man!
Thank you for your well explained instructions!! The RC that came with my DJI Mini Pro 4 only has one USB-C port next to the micro SD card. What version of RC are you using? will the one I have accept the wireless microphone like you shown in this video ?
Thank you so much for making this video! I learned two things today. One is how to record to the smart controller, and two how to record sound. I make railroad videos using a ground camera and my DJI Mini 3 Pro, and this will be a great addition.
Been following many of your UA-cam videos to learn how to operate my first ever drone using the DJI Mini 3 Pro. Have learnt a lot on drone and Remote control settings and tips to improve navigating the remote control and features available on this model. Thanks Matthew !!
Regarding recording audio with Mini 2, have you tried just activating “screen record” on the phone you’re using with the controller? Does that record audio?
@@MrPlaneTalk I do that once in a while and yes, you have the option of recording video. You could use the same trick with the DJI mic, attaching it to the drone and plugging the receiver to your phone and record the audio that way as well I suppose.
This is a most helpful video. Although I have basically doing this already with my Lavaliere mic and syncing with a clap of my hand. I may look into the DJI mic system. I wonder about the range of this. I am a drone newbie but I have already noticed that 1) people and 2)audio make this clips way more interesting than mysilent fly overs with pretty sound track. Your is one of the most informative drone tubes out there. Thanks a bunch!
2:15 then what does the micro sd card in drone do? 3:17 whaat? So the audio doesnt overlay with the video recording automatically? Just got my mini 4 pro trying to learn it.
Oh, this is useful! I was just filming a local river in flood yesterday (made a neat video out of it!) and lamenting that I couldn't capture the majestic roaring sound very well (my phone recording really didn't do it justice). I've got the DJI mic, so this should be pretty easy
Thank You! I learned something new today!!! I will be using this - I wonder if there is a way to make this work on the Avata too and I wonder if that will overload my brain while flying homes shooting real estate “ yes, you can see on the left is granite countertop we are flying over and as we swoop towards the back yard you can really see the view” ;)
Is it possible to add the sound recording to the drone video use the included DJI editor using an iPhone, or iPad? Thanks Brennon, over the last year, your content has very useful to me for using the mini 3 pro.
Am I the only one to see it, or the part in the beginning where demonstrates talking to the drone, the video is pretty badly out of sync with the audio, which really lowers the credibility of the video...? Why is that? If the clap/snap method works for syncing, why is this not synced?
it’s called audio drift. sometimes the audio’s sample rate is mismatched with the video’s framerate. look it up someone wud explain it better than me and show u how to fix it
Looked to me that he had the microphone mounted on himself and the mic’s receiver mounted on the drones controller. The controller has the ability to record what the drone sees plus the controller information plus audio input. He was also using the drones video camera to record himself talking and then synched the videos with a cue he could detect on both videos - a snap or clap creating a audio spike and hand or finger movement. Then the two videos can be lined up and steal the audio from the controllers recording and play it on the drones recording.
AHHGG!!! So close to being the perfect video!!! How did you get rid of all the screen graphics that are on the controller please mate? Did you just film from far away and crop it ir is there a better way? Appreciate you help on this. Cheers man.
First I am grateful that you have made this video available to us newbies, I bookmarked a few like it but this one shows exactly my DJI mic/receiver(single set not with the case), but I have 2 questions, one I tried all the steps to connect the receiver to the rc controller, but I do not get the headphone icon on top left of "go fly" screen. I still can record the sound but get no indication if the receiver is connected/recognized or not. Question#2: what free video editing software can I use to edit the sound/video that is straightforward and simple to follow?
Much appreciate your explanation of this audio via screen recording as well the aspect of syncing the audio with the drone camera footage. I own several wireless Rode mic transmitters / receivers. Tonight I have finally come to understand how this feat is done. I do like this dji wireless receiver you are using over the Rode interface I am using. (Saramonic 3.5mm Male TRS to USB-C Stereo or Mono Microphone and Audio Adapter Cable 9)
Matthew, thanks again for this interesting video. But what about starting the sound recorder on your smartphone and put it in your chest pocket? (instead of investing extra hardware)
@@PeteMeets Thanks, but the question was about audio, nothing to do with video. I should have been clearer, "DJI" in my question referenced the DJI mic, not the Drone.
@@PeteMeets But the sound isn't generated by the RC Controller. Are you saying it encodes the audio at a lower bit rate on controller even though it is captured in both cases through the save device? do you know what rate that is? I'll double check, but I thought I was seeing the same bit-rate on both. I only asked as the setup to connect to the RC seems like more work.
Will this same set up work using the RC PRO controller? I think there is only one USB-C port on that controller though. Also, does the screen recordings show all the Telemetry on the screen or is the screen clean of all that when you play the video back? I wouldn't want to see the telemetry in the screen recordings if possible.
if you're going to sync the hq recording with the audio, you don't need to screen record as well. you can just record directly off the mic, at least for DJI Mic, or other microphones that have built in recording. the screen recording is redundant, though I suppose you could visually sync it twice 😂 either way, you wouldn't even need the receiver since you would have to match the audio spike with the HQ video reference. would just need the transmitter audio and regular hq video.
This would be amazing if it recorded audio straight to the drone recordings, not just to the screen recordings. This is really useful for 'how-to' guides etc, but because the DJI wireless mics store sound files onboard, there's no need to use the receiver in the drone controller solely for audio to accompany drone footage. Is that a reasonable conclusion? Am I missing something? I mean, its still pretty cool though :)
yes but there is no indication that the audio is actually getting recorded in the screen recording...i use the mic independently and use this guys method of a visual indicator...i then transfer the wav files and line it up with the video in post. i can also record all audio when i am not screen recording too plus if anyone comes up to me and starts questioning me i have an audio recording of the conversation ;)
i have tested recording audio to the screen recordings but was unable to bring that into my editor and sync it up because its a different random frame rate
hi, can I just ask as im having issues, I have the grey rc remote, but i don't have two USB inputs, only the one, there is no flap with a USB insert and a memory card insert? there is only one USB insert which i assume is for charging as when I plug into it, it just says isb device is unknown. any advice?

@Mattheww Brennan I keep posting a link to it and it keeps getting deleted 😩 it's all in Chinese on the box so thought link would be better, just type wireless microphone on ali express and you'll see it, you can even get one in a charging case for less than £15
Like some other have pointed out this just seems like getting audio with extra steps. If it’s not going straight to the drones footage kinda only used for specific purposes.
