The only ones I saw while during my career at CR were black. With the conrail logo painted over the PC logo. Those were the days. 😊
The black versions were owned by Conrail. The one in the video is actually Conrail Shared Asset Operations.
Great addition Shawn. I have the NYCT version of that crane and the strings are really difficult to put back in place! Mine weren’t all out but I did the best that I could.

Hey Shawn, I just seen Nick on NIX crossing YT channel have the same problem. He got this Rail king crane and opened it on the live stream and the wires were a bird's nest. he untangled it during the stream. Took him a while.
I figured people would get board watching me untangle mine. Yeah it did take a while for me to figure it out lol

That's a Lionel PS4 50ft Flat car. It's a true scale flat car. It was part of a Lionel two car set which came with a PS4 flat car and a PS5 gondola. You can find them as a single as well.

I live in Woodbury and I still see Conrail work trucks around town fairly regularly. I’m sure if I got that crane (or any really) I’d get it stuck on something and have a mess 😂.
Just wondering…I finally got my SD 50 in on Friday. However, I’m having an issue where the pilot is shorting on the middle rail in certain areas…I even fried the kinematic spring in the front (had a cool glowing feature for a second). Have you had any issues with yours?
I have not had issues with my SD50. However I did have issues with kinematic couplers and covered it on video how it almost caught fire. The same thing happened to my Lionel 86ft high cube box car. Melted the spring right out of it. My advice on anything kinematic is to first check to see if the couplers are loose or not installed correctly and too close to the center rail before running it. Second piece of advice is to coat the bottom thumb tack of the kinematic couplers with liquid tape. This will insulate it in case the couplers do droop. I live only 40 minutes from Woodbury. Thanks for the reply. I was able to get the bottom of the pilot coated with the liquid electrical tape and that seems to have worked. I also found a screw that held the pilot on was missing and used a screw from the kit to convert to kadees to replace it. Now I just gotta get a spring on 😬.
But I do like it a lot now that I can run it so thanks for the tips!
Hey Shawn, if you collect Conrail, and you do, that crane is a good thing to have even if the color's not prototypical. And I kind of doubt you're actually going to play with it, I'd guess it's going to spend most of it's time on one of your shelves looking cool, and there can't be too many of them around.
I was ready to suggest you watch Ray's video on his MTH crane but you were way ahead of me!

Thanks much. Yeah this is going to be a shelf queen piece mostly. One day I plan on creating a scene with a Reading locomotive getting scrapped and then put this crane on the scene lifting away the parts. I know it will be Walts favorite scene on my layout lol.

Of course that might lead to a "revenge display" on Walt's part but it's a risk you'll have to take!
