Despite all of my research on airplanes, I had missed this video. I was searching again since I can tell my air plants aren’t doing very well. Based on your information, I have been doing nearly everything wrong in watering! Thank you so much. You addressed many points not covered in many other videos. Hopeful I can rehydrate mine properly now!
I am so glad you said that they are not easy to care for. I have heard that from so many people -including sellers!! I HIGHLY disagree! I think they are high maintenance. I love them and I have a lot of them, but they are rather time consuming.
Thanks for this great and informative video! I was given a little airplant for my bday recently, and im trying to figure out what im doing. I've only ever grown plants in the soil.
I water my Spanish moss the same way as others, but I soak them more often (twice a week), or I try to spray them completely wet in between weekly soakings. Be careful and let them hang dry at a well-ventilated place after watering, otherwise some strands can experience rot.
Mahalo Dave! This is @aloehavibes from Instagram . This video was so awesome and I learned some new watering tips and finally how to fertilize my air plants. I always wondered how. Thank you again !
Wonderful. Thank you! Do you think they like being handled? I have one that sits on my desk and I love to pick her up and look at her. Is it okay to handle them daily?
Thanks for watching :) I don't think they mind too much! I pick mine up often too, to water them or to change their homes haha. Although some growers like to have them mounted onto wood or wires so they can root onto it, so in that case they would prefer not to touch or move the plants too much. Perhaps some species like tectorum that has lots of trichomes (hairs) you wouldn't want to handle them too much!
I am able to keep them warm, but my humidity level in my home is 40% at best. I would stick them in my Pac-Man enclosures but there isn't enough air flow, so they would definitely rot.

Hey Dave! Total newbie here. I have just 4 air plants and I was wondering about using well water. We live out of town and do not have city water. Is using well water okay? I try to use rain water here in Southeast Texas, but I'm worried about the coming summer months. Thanks in advance and I love your videos! I have learned so much...
Hi Mary! Thank you so much for watching :) Glad to help. I have no experience in it myself, but I believe well water is natural enough to use on air plants, as long as it is clean and there are no visible trouble (bugs, muddy) with the quality of the water, they should enjoy a nice soak in it.
Do you find that air plants need more water through the winter? The winter season seems much more drier. My air plants seem drier right now with the heat on inside. You may have mentioned this in the video, and I just missed it. (If so, I apologize).
Hi Dave! I just got my first air plant from Amazon and I don't know where to start. I did get a manual and watch your videos but I still don't understand where to start. Do you have a video for beginners or people who are starting? Thank you ~
Hi there! Thanks for the comment. You've come to the right place! This 3-part video on air plant care should give you a pretty good start on these cool plants. If you want to read more about it you can visit my website www.davesairplantcorner.com, there's detailed plant care info there. All the best and happy growing!
Hi. We have a water softener for the house. I’ve heard it’s not good to use water from a tap with softened water. But, hose water, do I need to let that sit out to let chemicals evaporate similar to how you would for tap water?
Hi Jennifer, yes from my knowledge it is not good to use water from water softener since it stripped some of the good minerals that air plants like. For hose water I would treat it the same one and let it sit overnight or at least 5-6 hours so it is safer to use on the plants. They are pretty resilient when it comes to the kind of water you use, but in the long run it is best to be consistent with the quality of water.
Hi Dave, I have just discovered your site. Do you délivrer in the province of Québec ? I'm waiting for your response before starting to shop. See you soon. Johanne
I have never used hair dryer and not sure if it would be the best since the heat can be too drastic for the plants, I guess lowest setting could work but generally I find fans sufficient to dry them more naturally.
They can be soaked in water for an hour or two. Just make sure to dry them at a nicely ventilated spot after soaking and make sure they're not all bunched up or sticking against surface so they can breathe
Dave's Air Plant Corner thank you! I just had my air plant die on me ( looks like it was rotting). Looking to buy one from you. Love your channel. Learning so much!
I just killed mine! I sprayed it while it was right side up in its enclosure, and water was dripping into the root. 2 days later it started to get mushy and today it died 😭
Wow, distilled water is bad and tap water is good. That is the opposite of the water for carnivorous plants. Tap water is bad and distilled water is good for carnivorous plants.

Finally I found information on fertilizer for tillandsia. Thank you so much for sharing 🥰
Ohh… W O W .. my first word when your channel started…

@@DavesAirPlantCorner I am sure it will! I live in Newfoundland. I hope I can see you when I come to Toronto!
Rice water? I definitely will try for next watering my air plants. Thanks!
you're welcome! 💚😇 Make to dilute it so it's not overly powdery. But it gives them some nice minerals that they can't get from just water.
I find your videos so informational! I'm new to the air plant world and taken some tips from you. My plants looks healthy. Thank you!
I'm glad they're helpful! Thank you for watching! 😇🌿
Pensei que poderia usar água destilada. Muito bom o conteúdo
hello, we can also for the thin-leaved tillandsia with flower make them float attached to the frigolite.
Dave how do you water the Spanish moss? Thank you for making these videos

They tell us not to use distilled water and I loved my snowball looking airplant but it died, is it more sensitive to rot ? I also like your shirt.
Damn ! And I thought mine rotted due to too much of humidity....
Thanks !
Just checked out your website. “Shipping to Canada and the US, except for the White House” 😄
Lol... yes thought I would jump of the train of banning certain ignorant adult baby. Taken down now :D

Hi Dave, I have a medium sized bulbosum, the first leaves in the bottom have opened and i want to know If that is normal.

What is the NPK % for the fertilizer. Also what’s the difference between tectorum Ecuador and tectorum snowball?
How about Spanish moss do u have a video of them?
I live in Toronto too. The tap water in GTA is good for water air plants?
Hello fellow Torontonian :)! Yes, I use tap to water them, but try to let them sit overnight before you use it. Or use water filter like Brita
Hiya, I am new to air plants. I got 4 from Amazon, I live in the UK and I have them in my bathroom in a south facing window. Is this ok? Thanks.

Can you put airplants in soil.
I put mine in the fish tank 🤷🏼♀️
Nice! I've heard a lot of people that do so :)
Hai Dave, what is the name of fertilizer?
What about spring water?
How long do you dry your air plants?
I leave them on the floor to dry for the rest of the day, with the fan on, then put them back to their shelves the next morning.
