I really appreciate her comment that narcissism is not so much a disorder as it is a sin and that it is selfishness run amok. Having grown up with one I puzzled over it for years and finally came to that conclusion myself. Thank you for the validation. How you treat people is simply a choice. Calling it a disorder does not excuse bad choices.
Love the mini history lesson in this podcast. I also LOVE Daniel 3: 18 ish Only worshiping God one of my favorite quotes is by Einstien " - "I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details."
Old Testament study with your guests is SO helpful!! Each guest is my favorite while I’m listening! I think I will remember the power of Dr De Hoyos Anderson’s teachings on the book of Daniel for a long time! Thank you and your guests for sharing so freely the faith, knowledge and insights that take a lifetime to acquire! Such a very great blessing to me!! By the way, I laughed when Sister Anderson mentioned narcissism in connection with King Nebuchadnezzar because I had the same thought when reading of his actions and attitudes in Daniel.😂
I thought I had a fairly good grasp of the lessons I could learn from Shadrach, Meshach and Anednego. I have cherished the “but if not” principle like a friend. Sister Anderson added a new facet to my understanding. The idea that a tough experience or period of trial may be used for our growth is not new to me. Paul tells us that “all these things shall give thee experience and shall be for thy good”. The clarifying facet added today is that they can be CONSECRATED for our growth. It’s all part of the pruning and dunging we get to go through. What a marvelous attitude adjustment! Now if I can only keep it in mind when I’m in the middle of those experiences…..🤔
I Love the book of Daniel because of Shadrach Meschach and Abed-nego. The phrase "but if not" has become a long-standing motto that I try to live by. I am arrogant enough to think that could be thrown into a fiery furnace or that could let myself be killed in the very act of praying on my knees when the Lamanites came upon the Ammonites in the name of defending The Gospel of Jesus Christ. But then I got married and then I had children. and then I started to sympathize with Alma and Amulek. They were not thrown into a fire but they had to watch women, children, and babies cry out in unimaginable pain. And I would be willing to guess that some of those cries were some of his own family members. I do not know how they did that. If anyone hurt my babies, there is not a known force in the universe that could stop me from trying to rescue my babies. I would jump into that pit of fire with a smile on my face if it meant that my babies and husband would be spared. I aspire to the kind of faith that Alma had to still his hand and actively stop Amulek from interfering. it hurts my soul to think about that pain and I have no doubt that they would have nightmares for the rest of their lives. and in my own little minuscule way, I understand why Heavenly Father weeps when he looks upon the residue of his children, and when he had to withdraw his spirit from his son.
It’s sad that there’s only 7k views. Love how Dr Anderson gave the context. These podcasts have taught me so much of God’s omnipotence and omniscience. Praise be the Almighty God and his eternal plan of salvation. Thank you all for a beautiful message.
The Theology of peacemaking has been part of the anabaptist tradition for close to 600 years. The peace churches have been preaching the gospel of peace Faithfully on a daily basis for all that time. I'm grateful that as Brothers and Sisters in Christ we are all joining together to resist the forces in our world that wish to destroy each other.
Every week, I feel so grateful to learn. Many years ago Elder Sorenson was our Stake President in South Pasadena. He and his wife Verla were wonderful people. I thank them and their family for sharing this weekly scholarly feast. You both do a marvelous job as co-host and your guest are so knowledgeable.
This has been so beautifully presented. One of the things that helps me when I face situations where there is a, "But if not..", is my belief that my Heavenly Father and Jesus are the custodians of my own eternal will and not necessarily of my present will. Trusting and following Them help me to connect with that eternal will, expressed to Them in my pre-mortal life.
I always wondered if the Jews of Daniel's time had a version of "Kosher" and Daniel and his friends rejected the king's meat and wine because it was not kosher. Any thoughts?
It's true that rules do not take away agency. However, unjust or overbearing rules do show contempt for people's ability to use that agency wisely. And although Napoleon was not necessarily on a direct mission from God, he nonetheless served as a blunt force aimed in the direction of God's purpose - like Samson, Columbus, and so many others.
Wow. Let's forget about Daniel and talk about parenting. She had some great ideas, and I could sort of see the connection, but it seem like we had strayed far away from the original topic. This might have been better as two separate videos.
I watch every week and absolutely love your podcast. But since I have found you and started watching , lots of Anti stuff is showing up on my social media. I am sure it is some kind of algorithm. Is there something on your end that could help?

I love in the tradition of the Japanese people, that they repair a broken vessel, or fine China ,with gold . Making it even more beautiful!
