Sorry, We Need To Talk About Hull City

- When Liam Rosenior was appointed by Hull City in November 2022, the Tigers were 21st in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone.
Eighteen months on, they just finished 7th, three points off the play-offs, earning Liam Rosenior a Championship Manager of the Season nomination... but also the sack.
In this video, HITC Sevens attempts to make sense the sacking of Liam Rosenior, the rebuild that awaits them this summer, and the club's ownership regime.

Ah yes, the annual Hull City episode
It feels like therapy and we're his psychologists. Well, let's hear him out. He has things he needs to get off his chest. 😀
You would think Hull's owners would have learned the lesson from what just happened with Birmingham.
Hoping for their sake they don't suffer a similar fate next season.
Right.
Last update was 4 months ago... It's not even biannual at this point😭😭
@@armavir740 I’d be happy with daily, weekly at a push

Lmao I was genuinely in shock when I saw they'd sacked Rosenior. Absolutely ludicrous.
Have they been taking notes from Birmingham or?
As soon as I heard the news I was waiting for Alfie to make a scathing video about it lmao
"Sacking Rosenior is both a terrible decision and indecent act . I feel the fans should make their feelings very clear across varying social media sites"
- my 2 year old son
Hope Rosenior gets a chance at another club. That is an unfair decision to sack him.
In a media space where there are lots of fake people living of click bait, we are lucky to have consistent creators like you! Bravo and good luck to the Tigers
As a Derby fan. I was annoyed when we replaced Rosenior considering he stuck with us through thick and thin, was happy to see him get the Hull job and even happier that he was doing a good job there, then I heard of his sacking I was shocked and saddened, poor guy cannot get a break. He seems to be getting sacked for no real reason.
I will have to agree with you, but at the end of the day. We are seeing Derby once again in the Championship. While he indeed stuck with us through thick and thin and the worst times I will have to say. We are at the Championship and hoping for him to get another good position in the Championship.
Edit: I have been a Derby fan for a far shorter amount of time than most. Started following them when Mendez Laing was started to get in the eyes of my national federation to represent us in international play. But have grown to love the club and the atmosphere that has become Derby once again. While never a big fan of the English football pyramid teams, I for once have found a team to root for aside from following said player.
@@dennisazurdia2638 Mendez-Laing has been a great signing for us, funnily enough he was a Rosenior signing.
owner knows his money is drying up, he needs to sell players this summer or they'll be screwed by FFP. Rosenior wants to push for promotion, but owner doesn't. It is what it is.
@@csanadhorvaththey would get good fees for some of their players to balance the books. Jaden philogene would be someone say Ipswich should look at for next season for about £15-20 million which would be a huge profit for hull. They basically need to do what Coventry look to be doing. Buy cheap good players sell for a huge profit like they did with Gyokeres and probably will be the same for Wright this summer.
Alfie talking about Hull is what give me life

Man, I love Hull City.
The last time I were in London to attend a concert (late may 2008) I ended up in the Hull supporters’ crowd cheering the promotion and they adopted me for the afternoon!
Hope to see you all again in the PL! 💖
Fortunately for Hull City fans, Wayne Rooney still hasn't accepted a new managerial job, so "every cloud" and all that.
Let's go, Hull City time! (Not a Hull fan, but hey, always a pleasure to see Alfie talk about his club)
Why would anyone support Hull, what have they won ? No PL title or European titles or fa cups ... City is much better.

Fun fact: Liam Roseniors dad holds the record for being the quickest manager to get sacked at a club in England, he lasted like a couple hours
Correct me if I’m wrong on that though I just saw that somewhere
Apparently it was 10 mins, I was way off 😂
It 10 minute not a couple hours
@@mrshrimpeugenewait seriously?
hahahha that''s management
It not even the same management that sacked him it the new owner in 10 minute
Leroy Rosenior, 10 mins, after he was appointed, the club changed owner and CEO, and the club appointed another manager.. It's funny..
As soon as Rosenior was sacked, I knew we'd get a video on Hull. I'm certainly not complaining. Love a video from Alfie
On the contrary, Alfie! I'm an Arsenal fan, and the days of Phil Brown giving a team-talk on the pitch left me with not an ounce of love for Hull City, but watching your videos from the usual informative but also personal perspective made me view the club in a much kinder light. Thanks for all your hard work!
I predict Liam Rosenior will not be out of work for very long. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him managing Sheffield United next season.
I hope not, he can do better than that car crash of a club.
He doesn't need another poisoned chalice.
I can remember in the 2008/09 season during their debut top flight campaign when Hull City got off to a flying start during the first half of the season and around about Christmas were occupying a European place but they then barely won a single game until the end of the season and just barely ended up surviving relegation it was an absolute crazy season for them
The half time team talk at man city...
I love Alfie talking about Hull City. It’s a great combination of his high level of writing and presentation with his fandom. There is no way I could produce a video near this quality talking about the pain that the Jaguars have caused me.
Roseniors sacking could open up massive opportunities for other clubs such as Sunderland. He is a progressive young manager who would do wonders with a progressive young squad. Not only that but he is now out of work so no release clause due and he seems to be a good operator at Championship level, this will come back to bite Hull
Just heard that Wayne Rooney's interpreter has been spotted in East Yorkshire!
You read it here first.
He's going to be Birmingham manager next year. Bring in the crowds.
@@joecurran2811 Unfinished business. God lord what a terrible idea
@@joecurran2811 He's already got us relegated. Though if he really is that consistent he mightbe able to take us to League 2😆
Methinks The Board have learnt a painful & expensive lesson. I think I could do better than 10 points from 15 games and I would only cost £10.44 an hour.
😅
People from outside the UK only see the premiership and think The championship is an easy way to get there. Sacking Liam was a mistake he will go on to greater things. Sacking McCann for Shota was a mistake also
Getting there is hard enough, but staying there is almost impossible for newer teams.
As a Hull City fan I was gutted when I saw the news.
As a team we were making huge progress under Rosenior, and at a much faster pace than I think anyone would have thought.
I can understand people complaining about the slow/patient, possession based tactics, but I also think a lot of fans forget how bad our defense is and that this style of play takes a lot of pressure off them.
Also, fans point to the home form being poor, and I agree we did underperform at home, but we also massively overperformed away from home.
I think it was 100% the wrong decision at the wrong time, but as a Hull fan I hope it works out alright and I am proven wrong. The owner has earned a lot of good will with the fans, so i'm reluctantly willing to let it play out.
It might be smart. Acun probably doesn't want to waste time when he has to make the change of manager if and after the club gets promoted.
"Oh no, we finished mid-table again!"
As a Huddersfield Town fan I'd give my back teeth for a mid-table finish!
You lot have just reopened your academy so given time ….
Alfie, You know when something is very amiss when the supporters of your rivals all go 👀 In unison about such a sacking. It actually smacks of a knee jerk emotional reaction to the failure of reaching the play-offs, rather than the failure of some plan or design. Some owners would do better to sit on their hands, or take a walk on a beach for a couple of weeks before deciding on the best course of action.
As a Bradford City fan I was staggered at the news of LR's sacking, most EFL fans would snap your hand off for a manager that can take them from relegation candidates to the cusp of play-offs in 18 months!
This is why I feel very fortunate that Portsmouth's American owner, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, has appointed people with actual experience in English football to run the club.
Wait until he signs female players because 'diversity is our strength' and see how that works for yous
In Turkey the people running football clubs are typically not qualified. And firing coaches is quite common. We'll see if Acun adapts overtime or not
Eisner may have fumbled with the theme parks, but he saved Disney's animation and credited that to being an artist in charge of an art company, so I'm sure he takes that same attitude with making sure football people run a football club.
The club's atmosphere and management might be unstable but the club is performing well in the grand scheme of things. It got to the Championship and got close to getting to the Premier League. That actually might be why Acun figured it's better to change management now rather than after promotion when they can't afford to waste time.
Absolute farce sacking Rosenior. I'm from Hull and while I dont support them, I've always watched them and let me tell you this season has been some of the best and most entertaining football they've played since they were in the Prem. Crazy decision from the owners.
I cant believe we didnt keep Roseniour on at Derby. He was the reason why we nearly stayed up despite the 21 point deduction, yet we sacked him to hire the Rotherham manager
Yet we got promoted with Warne so in the end that decision paid off. I was sad Rosenior wasn’t given the time but that’s football and I wish Rosenior the best. I doubt it will be long before he’s got another job
I'm a Coventry City fan and I just don't understand why he was sacked . I thought he did a very good job. Glad our board is more patient with Mark Robins .
A lot of people point to the spending and the quality of players to justify it but they’d be wrong as they weren’t the biggest spenders and as the video mentioned were in a relegation battle when Rosenior came in and hadn’t been anywhere close to the playoffs for a while.
Great coverage as ever, thankyou.
Just a reminder though that our first foray into European competition was the 1973 Anglo-Italian Cup.
I was waiting for Alfie to mention the bell Andy Robertson in a Hull City video. Just over 3 minutes.

Well, the leader of Acun Group has a quite close to knit tie to Erdogan. Guess you found where their antics are from.
@@diomuda7903 It has nothing to do with erdoğan. It's just turkish mindset. Either you're champion or sacked.
@@boryolmung9548 The problem is that mindset has become institutionalised under Erdogan, where short-term gains are favoured over long-term stability. Erdogan being a dictator, spent lavish money for wasteful construction. Acun reflects from this situation.
@@diomuda7903 The thing is, Erdoğan is not a dictator. While he has authoritarian tendecies and spends taxpayers money for all those presidential mansions he definitely needs, and i hated him just like most of the turkish young, he doesn't corrupt electorial policy in a way that exclusively beneficial in his favor ( hell, he lowered the ridicilous %10 Electoral threshold even though for pragmatic reasons) and no one else and turkish people has a freedom of speech in some degree. The fact this, non-turkish media exaggerate the Erdoğan's actions because he's right-wing while popular media is not.
Imagine looking at what happened to Birmingham after they sacked Eustace and thinking "I want some of that"

Couldn't believe when I seen the manager was sacked
Hull fan here separating emotion here but 2 wins in 12 at home was dire as they are the games our owner attends along with 8 wins in 22 so I understand. Me personally Liam had so much credit in the bank so would have given him till Christmas time. You also have to look at the Xgc for Keepers both of ours was in the top 5 of the league as we conceded 16 goals more then we should
Just dropped by to say that your analysis is head and shoulders above the mainstream on Sky, TnT and whatever. I've always felt like a pretty intelligent person that likes following a sport followed predominantly by gammon. You've given me hope for football analysis.

Maybe the solution is to get all the fans together for a big rally, say once a year. Pick a theme that ephasizes the importance of team spirit and dedication, I would suggest "Triumph of the Will" for the first one. Should certainly improve the mood considerably.
as soon as I heard Rosenior was sacked I knew this was coming
Rosenior's management style is very dutch in terms of slow build up. He learned that working under Philip Cocu at Derby
It's not as much Dutch, as it is what you do if you want to play possession football and have a sh-t defence that's leaking goals. So you keep the ball, looking for an opening and playing percentages while taking as few risks as possible in positional terms in case you lose the ball and have to defend a transition. Hull doesn't currently have a back line you can leave one v one with lots of space in front of it.
@@paulie-g thats exactly what dutch football is, minus the poor defence. It works in the netherlands because most of the teams dont press. Very slow and methodical which doesnt work all that well in the championship
@@jackbrownio3 I've not seen an Eredivisie game like that, but I don't watch it often and when I do, it's the top clubs usually. Given that Hull, playing this way, go to 7th indicates it works reasonably well, unless you think they have the squad to have finished higher.

Always excited to get my yearly update on hull city
It is worth noting that the Allams (and I am no fan of them) kept faith with Bruce and McCann after two relegations and they both repaid that faith with promotions.
I almost fell off my chair laughing, when Tim Walter came up. Perfect display of incompetence considering him as a manager.

If I were him, I would engineer that sacking. He's on a hiding to nothing with that ownership group and his stock has never been higher. Maybe he can get a job somewhere more professionally-run.
Good stuff Alfie... using your own team is a great microcosm of what most teams outside the big bankrolled/popular, fashionable media darling clubs have to deal with. You can do Hull like this any day IMHO...
The decision to sack Rosenior is absolutely outrageous given the initial expectations of the club this season
There's 3 guarentees in life: Death, Taxes and Alfie's annual Hull City video. On a serious note i was blown away hearing of Rosenior's sacking, truly mind boggling.

As always, thanks for the video. How do we convince you to make those several longer hours of rambling happen?
I was waiting for this video when I saw the Rosenior news. Didn't disappoint.
Liam Rosenior getting the sack is beyond a joke. Hull have massively overperformed. We're unluckily because of the calibre of teams that got relegated last season. I do believe Hull would have kicked on next season had they kept him
I have to say that as a neutral, "the fans can die whenever they want" is one of the all time great quotes in football. Absolutely cold blooded from the guy.
Alfie,
An excellent video about your beloved club. Hopefully we see Hull back in the Prem.
You should do a follow up video on the FAI and add in Irish football.
The FAI and the national team is even worse than you could imagine. Cant get a manager, CEO scandal and resignation, drop in rankings, divided fanbase on style of play and still no manager. You would enjoy but be horried. We have England in Nations league.
The League of Ireland is flourishing in terms of attendances and recently went professional. All this is without any FAI/government support.
If anyone thinks Hull are in turmoil now they never saw the Terry Dolan and Mark Hateley eras.

Good one, thank you. Rosenior should be on a lot of clubs' lists around now. All the best for him, for you and up the tigers
Hull City is weird. They can butcher their own successes so quickly.
I have twice bet on Hull being promoted because of your enthusiasm. Lol. I may do it again this summer. I don’t learn.
You say Hull City I raise you Sunderland 🤷🏻♂️
Interesting Fact: Liam Rosenior is, in fact, the son of Leroy Rosenior, who was infamous for his controversial sacking with Torquay United back in May 2007.
What's even crazy is that Leroy was sacked only 10 minutes after his appointment, thus making him the fastest managerial sacking of the English Football, to date!
Love you 7’s. Always good content for free
Haha the Hull ep had to come. Would be interested to see your take on the evolution of defending. Half the time I watch top players now I wonder how they'd find their way around a proper rugged defence that isn't afraid to tackle.

Great video, very interesting. Hope all works out for the fans. Very weird decision from the owners. Makes me realise how lucky we are with our owner at Ipswich.
You look at Hull and you look at Burnley and while Hull is significantly larger in population Burnley has historically had a more successful football team and indeed have been crowned champions on 2 occasions in 1921 and 1962 and have had numerous spells in the top flight of English football while Hull City have almost spent its entire history in the lower echelons of the football pyramid is there any reason why this is the case

alright so, some conspiracy theories here. Panathinaikos is also owned by Acun. Their (former) owner won't admit it but the tactics the club implements are IDENTICAL to hull. They fired Ivan Jovanovic as their manager, who kept them near the top, and brought in Fatih terim cause acun knew him from turkey. He destroyed the locker room, fought with the players and sank panathinaikos' chances. Also January transfers followed the Hull city pattern too. Players who played in turkey, who did absolutely nothing for the squad. BY the way Terim is also on the way out, and fans demand his instant firing, but the board's silence shows that, as we all kinda know already, acun is the owner, he's not going to fire his bestie

All the best for next season Alfie, from a boro fan who appreciates our current Chairman.
Liam.was doing you well, Madness and i hope he comes to us at Argyle.
I can assure you Mark Robins won't go to Hull as he is settled in a safe job.
And now, the moment, we have all been waiting for.
Would have been interested if you touched on his involvement in Shelbourne FC and the fact that Damien Duff pushed him out of the club (there were other reasons am sure). Just to give more context to his wild footballing adventures outside of Hull.
It has to be noted just much credit Derby county staff and fans are giving to Liam R. In doing a great job setting them up for promotion. I really doubt Liam is to bothered about being moved on by Hull. I'm sure he will get a nice pay out and it wont be long be he's offered a job withi a more appealing club.
He had a lot of class and was well respected by Hull supporters, we are sad to see him go but angry with the chairman for making such a ridiculous decision.
