Walk Through on a 10,000 SqFt House For Sale ($1.2 million) with 2 Acres

  • I saw this house come up for sale last week pretty close to where I live. I am not actively looking to move, but I keep my eye open as I have run out of garage space and wouldn't mind a place to store my cars or an awesome house with more garage space. This house had 2 acres, 9k square feet, a 3 car garage plus a 1,800 square detached shop! I took a look at it with the family and it was a nice house but I did not like it nearly as much as my smaller house.
The home is big but I think the space could be used much better and it needs updating. Most everything is oak, and that accounts for the listing price being $1.2 million. If the home was updated I think it would be much more expensive. I loved the garage, the giant koi point, and the patio, but not worth moving. I think it will be a very long time before we move again or find a house we like as much as the one we are in now. One day I might do a video of our house but my wife is not super thrilled with that idea.
I have toured some other pretty crazy houses as well such as the two below:
    • Why Was this the Crazi...
    • Potential House Flip o...

Call me crazy but I love the 90's aesthetic. Takes me back to my childhood. I'd buy the property "as is" in a heartbeat.

my grandfather was a Broker. He was also a house flipper before it had a name!! LOL Back in the early 1960's he started by buying a house to move into and he and Grandma fixed it up room by room and then they would sell it. Each time they made money on it and then they would buy a bigger house to move into and fix up. One day Grandpa had a client who just couldn't find the right house and Grandpa showed his OWN house (which was supposedly they last house!) and the client LOVED it! HE asked Grandpa if he would sell the house... as is.. fully furnished. Grandpa laughed and said that EVERYTHING he had was for sale for the right price except Grandma, the dog, and all the kids! LOL

It’s actually a very cheap built house. They cut major corners building it. It’s not even full brick. The cheapest windows you can buy. Super cheap closet system. A lot of work to be done. Price needs to be cut in half! 😂

You can see that some of the windows already are foged up so needs windows replaced. If your building a home like this you would hope they would have used some well built fiber reinforced vinyl windows that last longer then 20 years.

Blue Steel southern command post can be in the basement.
The interior is very plain. If you could pick it up for $1,050,000 and put $150,000 into modernization, you've found yourself a new home.

Coming from a city where a tiny house costs a million, I do envy the Americans with their inexpensive huge houses.
The only thing about having to buy an expensive house is that it makes you feel richer, and if you are lucky you can use any capital growth to borrow funds for improvements or business purposes.

I would buy that. Good video! Here in Los Angeles, the avg. home is more than 1 million, and that will get you 2 bedrooms and 1000 sq. ft. 1 sq feet is $1,000. So this house at 10,000 sq ft would cost $10,000,000 at the VERY least. And depending on the location, say south bay or west los angeles, it would become $15,000,000 to $20,000,000.

I think i helped build this house n shop. It was for a little old man n his wife. He retired from HP in fort collins. Rumor has it he had a wing at HP named after him. U may have seen him back then sitting alog side of the highway selling hay!? I think 1.7 mil is what it cost to build back then!? I was told 80 grand for wd wrk n that was mainly base boards thru out because of width n design of milling. Pollied sanded n finished every piece so believe me theirs alot!! The only thing i thought was wonky about this house was using vinyl siding!? Other than that this house is very well built!! Last time i saw it it stood alone in a field with nothing else around. Sad memory was the house was vandalized before he even moved in

I am fine with the oak as I don't mind it and it will likely come back around again. My take is the house is 3 bedrooms with a home theater room over the garage (note the in-wall speakers and subwoofer installed) so the 2 bathrooms is okay for upstairs although a half bath would have been nice. I did not see a half bath in the basement. Finishing the basement, at least partial, would make that an amazing house.

To be serious all of those houses leaving an impression of something temporary and unorganized, which is in my opinion absolutely not suitable for house which costs 1+ mil. And the project wasn't deeply worked on - too much walking, huge distances, many rooms without obvious purpose. And small garage. 1+ mil made out of wood and shingles... Ugh, it has to be made out of brick or concrete at least to be substantial and long lasting investment. Just saying.

Maybe LosAngeles could subsidies the home owner if homeless are allowed to live there ... as long as they are willing to take a check that can't be cashed for a year or two?

Mark , raised 4 kids, and you families don't need a house this big, cost a fortune in utilities heating and cooling and you really need to know what your kids are doing , even when they are older and you loose them in houses this big. By the way most home magazines and design mags you are seeing white walls again. I'm not a oak fan but nice home, lots of work to keep this yard up and it would cost a fortune to hire it out, and that big you would need a lawn tractor

@@investfourmore I know you do, I like them, "I seak the light". LOL 😎, I completely hate grey, and when I was looking at homes , if it was painted grey thru the whole house, I wrote it off as today it cost between 4 and 6 grand to repaint the inside of your house, depending on the size. So just don't paint your flips grey inside, everything in homefurniture has grey on it's way out.

That house is so tiny for 9,000 sqft. I give it 5,000sqft MAX and that's being generous. It seems like a house in the mid 4,000 sqft range. It defiantly doesn't seem like a mansion even though the square footage is over the mansion benchmark

His camera does nothing to show the sheer size! Ud have to walk thru it to appreciate the size. It is that big!

It’s a standard contractor grade built home, then again custom homes are definitely more costly. What shape is the roof in and the gutters? Do they drain correctly? Especially with snow loads. A lot of roof and angles which leaves potential for leaks if not done correctly. Those are things people don’t look at, they look at the aesthetics. I’m not a fan of oak either. Thanks for the showing!

I always say.....if I can truly afford to buy a house in this square footage and this price range........paying for utilities, insurance, taxes, landscaping crew should not be a concern.......just saying......

The house is really big, but you are right need more bathrooms upstairs and finish out the basement, But all in all it's a lovely place,

Is the unfinished basement actually being counted towards total square footage in the MLS? An unfinished basement is worth substantially less than a finished basement and should not be counted as finished space on the listing. It's like when someone counts a garage towards square footage even though it is worth less than finished space. It's not a good practice. On the other hand, it is an excellent negotiating point for the buyer.

yes it counts but not as finished. In Colorado basements are counted in total square footage

I guess it's OK for an original builder-owner to look big and grand from the outside but can live with the cheap undergrade trim and fixtures on the inside, but could always be upgraded by someone, and that Big Basement is so fine and has great potential for finishing!... 😀 But real nice house (as is) anyway Mark... 👍 🙂

Ha, you just described 1998. All houses of that era pretty much look like that on the inside. 1995 and you have the funky colored carpets like maroon and emerald green, teal.

I'm thinking it's the land that has moire value than the house itself, despite it's size.I just looked at a listing for fun for a mansion for sale here in St.Paul built in 1884 that puts this house to shame.
