  • This is some interesting footage about pack dynamics. There was a single wolf who showed up in the One-eyed wolf pack territory. I think it is a female. The dominant, one-eyed female really went after the single wolf. She ran the wolf off and did not kill it. It is interesting to watch. Violent Content, be advised.

      Seems to me, when the wolves are there, the deer quickly decline in population and coyotes become nonexistent. When the wolves go away, coyotes and bobcats rebound. Ebb and flow.

  • @sirtango1
    @sirtango1 4 місяці тому +54

    The wolf is just asserting her dominance. There was no real violence. The intruder would have been shredded by the pack if it was a hostile encounter. You often see domestic dogs doing this. A lot of growling, light nipping, and screaming but no damage. This asserts the pack leaders dominance and tests for aggression from the intruder. Normal pack behavior.

    I had a Wolf Hybrid. This type of behavior is indicative of the Wolf side. The Alpha is subjugating the lower status Wolf to assert dominance and maintain the hierarchy. In our case, our older, male Catahoula, was the the dominant one and our Wolf Hybrid, Romulus, was the subordinate. To save his life, we had to rehome Romulus. Wolves will only go so far when checking a subordinate. A domestic dog, especially a hunting breed like the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, will viciously continue to attack; despite the submissive urination and lack of aggression from the new pack member. In some ways, Wolves are more civilized than domestic dogs.

    • @gabe_2544

    • @paulcook1679
      @paulcook1679 4 місяці тому +14

      The wolf is in no way more "civilized" than a domestic dog of any breed. The wolf has evolved to not expend energy unless it absolutely has to - it's a life or death situation for them, so this wolf simply understands that she has no need to kill the other, jeopardizing her own life in the process. The domestic dog has absolutely no sense of this because it's needs are met by humans.

      Wolves aren't dogs
      I had a hybrid and I took her to a trainer who had a good reputation.
      He told me not to expect to be able to train her.
      She'd dig out of the enclosure in our yard and come back 2 days later stinking and covered with maggots .
      Poor girl - I couldn't give her what she needed .
      She had pups because I made the mistake of breeding her and 2 of 6 pups were OK but the other 4 ended up being put down by their owners because they were completely unmanageable.
      Her digestive system wasn't made for 'Dog Food' and she had diarreah all the time except for the times she'd escape and go kill someone's chickens..
      There are limits to the sacrifices that someone can make for a pet.
      I had to move to an apartment and I gave her to a friend, and she lived to be about 4 yrs
      But she was a very sweet and charismatic animal, when she was good.
      Rest Peacefully Lucy

    Notice how canines respond to physical tactics? I know a guy who takes care of quite a few dogs on his acreage. It's amazing how he maintains control of all of them. He told me one time it's all about the piss. He pees on the most dominant dogs to maintain his position as alpha. We think it's gross, but dogs respond to it as a sign that they must do what the pack leader says. His dogs are well fed, well cared for, but if you don't constantly assert yourself through dog-like tactics, you will lose control of the pack. It's all about the piss...

    Good example of actual wolf behavior. Showing submission to avoid conflict. It should work the same way with dogs and often does, but because of human breeding the genetics sometimes produces bullies who don't follow the rules of canine behavior. It is true that some dogs are more dangerous than wolves. Not all Catahoulas are predisposed to inappropriate violence though. There is variation in every breed.

Today the world is ran by a 'Dragon/Serpent'...a Caesar/Pharaoh...and ADAM wants to separate so badly.

    I live in Tomahawk. Not a fan of wolves at all. They are decimating the deer herd. The heart of the problem is the State of Wisconsin lack of management. I wrote an article about wolf populations in Wisconsin for an outdoor magazine about 10 years ago. When originally introduced, the population goal was 300. When I wrote the article 10 years ago the minimum population was 700 and other than I believe one 3 day? trapping/hunting season, nothing has been done to control population which is now estimated to be approaching 1500 animals (and that may be light). Really seems to be a political issue with the Democrats not wanting to stop wolf population growth. One theory is they want to wipe out the deer herd, ruin Wisconsin's great hunting traditional, reduce interest in hunting and, as a long game, reduce interest in guns to promote their gun control agenda. I'd have no real issues with 300 in the state but they are 5x that. The wolves have (literally) reduced the deer population in Michigan's Upper Peninsula to the point that hunters go all season (2 weeks) without seeing a deer. The wolves have cleaned out the groceries in the UP and keep moving South gobbling up the deer. Maybe once they reach Madison and start eating politician's dogs, some regulatory change will happen to get the population back under control.

      @@edhovrud It appears you live (or at least do a lot of filming) in North Carolina. I lived in Michigan's UP for 12 years before moving to Tomahawk in North Central WI. During my time in the UP, my mother-in-laws dog was taken by a wolf in her front yard. Miraculously the dog, a Cairn Terrier, survived but had 4 fang punctures - 2 on both side of it's spine. My cousin was cross country skiing in the same area and had 3 wolves following her through a swamp about 40 yards away for 20 minutes showing no real fear of humans despite her efforts to scare them off. Any predator with an unnatural lack of fear of humans is a problem. I've had wolves, at least judging by the location of their howls, follow me back from a hunting stand after dark for 1/2 mile back to camp. I respect animals and nature. I admire the beauty of wolves. There are simply areas where human population density is too high to also have a high and growing density of wolves. Let them have the 90% of Canada that houses 2% of the Canadian population. I can understand how nature lovers admire wolves - they are beautiful creatures - but it's one thing to watch them on videos or travel to yellowstone to hope to catch of glimpse of one vs living with them and getting photos of them 200 yards behind your house on a trail camera.

    A closed wolf pack (only where pack dynamics can be spoken of) consists of a parent pair, their one-year-old and often several two-year-old offspring and possibly young pups.... strange wolves are generally not accepted in an established pack and driven out or killed.
    I don't know the pack nor do I know where they live, but I think it's a pretty mild handling to a (fairly young) unknown intruder, especially when it comes to female-female interaction. I assume one-eye is the (pregnant here) leading female, and the other wolves are her mate (who walked away from the event first) and their young?
    Should one-eye still have sons in the pack, this female could be the reason one of them is leaving the pack soon (more likely than being accepted into a family group).

    This is common behavior in wolf packs.
    The wolf being bullied is called the omega (the last) and is often the brunt of being bullied by the whole pack.
    I've seen videos where the entire pack was being this way toward the omega.
    Wolves kill intruders. While it seems "violent" it really is not.

    I know this is nature,but I so hate it when an animal is hurt. Does any one know what happened when she sloped off on her own and the dominant followed her? Is she now part of the pack? Or does she have to make it on her own? In human terms I think it might be called bullying. Now don’t fly off on one,I respect the wild and know human values cannot be put upon its creatures. Lovely to see animals living as they should ,would that all of them across the world could be so free. BTW I live in Northern Ireland.
