Alan's wisdom and attention to detail is the very thing you want in a mechanic shop. He definitely knows what he is doing and also knows what to do to not create a further problem. He's definitely a wizard.
Holy shit Alan you want to make sure Greece gets on the brake shoes or what. Packing grease means packing just the bearing. And a Milwaukee cordless half-inch impact will take them nuts right off
He need a south American Safari hat that's Canvas and ridged with the pockets. For the recoveries and adventure they go one. Like different style hats for a different type of video. Be like Allen has a hard hat today I think they have heavy equipment in this one
Alan is the people's go-to guy if the world ever goes MAD-MAX. His content is educational, entertaining, and fascinating. I've been a supporter of his since day one.
I always watched my Dad work on his equipment...Allen you remind me of his knowledge and ability to "do it right"...Thank you...this was worth every minute of your time ..
Great job guys. The shop is lucky to have a great team of guys like you. Dave was lucky to have flew over Alan's mountain top. He's a great team mate to have. Thanks for the video great job and stay safe and God be with you all.
Alan is what I would call a field mechanic. The ability to utilize what is around you to get the job done to a point, say stranded in a canyon. There is no need to pound in new wheel studs on an epoxy floor with bits of off cuts taped together in a modern equipped workshop that has a hydraulic press. I would have also shown the u bolts a bit of blue flame before undoing them.
little late but, to help that impact gun perform properly, you need a larger diameter air line. between the gun and the compressor needs to be able to flow the cfms.
Alan is super wizard, seeing hulk move that wheel baring and seeing Alan do it I'd say Alan is the stronger man for the job . His mind is so brilliant that makes us love him even more lol happy new year Alan & sparks .
I'm really happy they brought him on board and he is able to share his knowledge and wisdom on video so it'll never be lost. So much of these old school skills and wisdom is being lost just because it's not being recorded or utilized by the younger generations. Alan is a huge wealth of information and knowledge.
I've always used an air impact chisel with a flat head bit to replace wheel studs. Knocks them out and presses them back in like butter. You could have knocked them all out and the new ones back in the time it took to just knock the old ones out with a hammer.
Hey Allen, just a hint, quit using WD40 as a lube, or penitrant. It is a water displacer and protectant. If you are cutting or cleaning threads, use something with more viscosity, and then clean with something like a brake clean.
Just wanted to wish all of the diesel Brothers their families and friends a joyous blessed healthy wealthy and wonderful New Year of 2023! You've brought great joy to my life so keep up the good work guys. You're always in my prayers with love and gratitude.
As Badgermatt said, upgrade from WD40, try PB Blaster, Marvel Mystery Oil or as another comment was to use 2Stroke oil !!! And wear Safety Glasses when using impact tools, Please. Surprised Dave Sparks shop insurance does not mandate eye glasses and or face shields!
Yes it's Diesel Dave's channel.. Awesome. With Allan it's like watching back yard rust builder's. It's the most Rangi shit I've ever seen. Almost like the other rough as guts blonde guy never left. Kind of like a butcher shop for sparks motors.... OMG. Never thought I would see such rough engineering on the internet. Kind of suits the dodgy guy who owns the place. Love it guys. This is as back yard mechanics as it gets... red neck hard
Just found this channel the other week when the previous vid was released. Oddly enough, I am enjoying it. Good call on extending this into smaller videos - and I won't mind if it goes for another 5-6 eps either. Just my 2 cents.
Huh anytime that you guy's do things , you run into problems . But you're the Diesel Bros and you and your crew make shit happen . Like your auction that you just had. Keep things up and GOD bless you guy's
Allen, your knowledge and understanding of all these trucks is amazing! It was a little hard to watch this with the novice questions from a few others though…. Feels like this video is a stretch at trying to be what discovery had going….
Hey easier tool for pounding bolts or pins weld 1 inch cable to large bar with handle one can hold while other use sledge straight up/down or side ways for track pins. We use them out in bush quick fixes
bring back memories of working on deuce and half and 5t cargo trucks at fort hood. then there are 3 version of the deuce. also there are -10 operator, -20 63b MOS, -30 3rd shop manuals. by watching this you guys need the TMs...
He'll ya, I always look forward to yall videos. If anyone is looking for someone to be their heros it's these guys, they all go above and beyond the calls that they get when helping other people. They make sure to do everything 200% and give it their all.
Alan is the obsolete main attraction for BOTH channels ! Sparks Motors and Heavy D. He has an incredible wealth of experience and applied knowledge in so many trades - he's a Man's Man !
Having done this in Germany on my 816 those drums will smash your fingers, heavy. I found it easier to leave tires on and slide them straight out. Made a plywood sled with pull chains
The threads on a "U" bolt are really fine thread and the threads on a wheel stud are courser and need a torque/multiplier type wrench to tighten or to loosen.
I dit so many axel seals and bearings. I got a old trick to remove the old bearings shell the little one wil probably fall out whit a few blows the big one is a pain in the ass. If you’re interested I can help 😁. Greetings from a fan from Holland
Hey Allen maybe build a die holder you can put a ratchet on. Yeah water especially salt water in the hub is very bad. I'm wondering how bad hub is inside
Also that die was on wonky the first time so Alan messed up the threds that's why it didn't come off so easily. Everyone saying he's amazing and old school, yeah he's old school but also abit hard work tbh, just use the press 10x quicker.

What works better then wd40 is atf in a heavy duty squirt bottle with crazy stuck bolts just soak all the bolts first thing let rest.and thanks for the content guys.
At this time line 8:44 Alan and his sidekick or pounding away at some bolts or studs, or whatever you want to call them. The way they are going about doing it is one big waste of time when they could take it and put it in a press and get them all in in no time. And if they don’t have a press that big enough to do it call around to the different machine shops and I guarantee you you’ll find one they can get these put in in no time. That’s what we did and that’s what we do on our logging trucks. Western Star 4900 ED That is the most powerful in the most rugged truck made for the logging industry. And it goes without saying, it’s the most expensive!!!! boy is it ever! And my family owns 48 of them here in NW Montana. Here inside the, YAAK VALLEY. Please feel free to look it up and you’ll find out very quickly. It is the most remote part of Montana and all of Northern Idaho. 8:44 Once again, it’s at this timeline

Allen is to be commended for his meticulously ridiculous hand work ethic and attention to detail. Well done sir.
Allen is old school. Too many people hack stuff up and throw away and replace. He’s the type that appreciates a dollar and will rework what he can.
To The Wizard Allen! Hazah!
@@Oldtimered He'd definitely be a super cool guy to hang out with. So chill and easy going.
Saving every penny with the right tools!
He needs some PB Blaster!!
Alan's wisdom and attention to detail is the very thing you want in a mechanic shop. He definitely knows what he is doing and also knows what to do to not create a further problem. He's definitely a wizard.
I can hardly wait the new segment, "STUFF ALLEN KNOWS"!!
Holy shit Alan you want to make sure Greece gets on the brake shoes or what. Packing grease means packing just the bearing. And a Milwaukee cordless half-inch impact will take them nuts right off
I'd say Allen is about to get a tidal wave of cool new hats!👍
I really hope so! haha
Haha
He need a south American Safari hat that's Canvas and ridged with the pockets. For the recoveries and adventure they go one. Like different style hats for a different type of video. Be like Allen has a hard hat today I think they have heavy equipment in this one
I bet the man will still sport his old hats.
Its enjoyable watching alan work his magic on machines. Thank for the detailed videos.
Alan. Grade 8 flat washers lightly greased with the flat side of the lug nut to pull the new studs in easily.
Alan explains in a great way, he is really a very skilled guy
Great job guys. The shop is lucky to have a great team of guys like you. Dave was lucky to have flew over Alan's mountain top. He's a great team mate to have. Thanks for the video great job and stay safe and God be with you all.
Absolutely 👍

Alan is fantastic he can put his hands to anything and fix it, he's old skool
Allen is the master of vintage. His skills & patience r extremely hard to come by.
This was extremely interesting. Thank you for letting us watch you work, Alan.
Alan is a book of knowledge and he knows his stuff. I like to sit and watch him work so I can learn. Y'all can learn a lot from him!!

Thank God you have Wizard Alan!!!!
I agree with all the compliments listed below for Allen!! Just WoW. 🍻🇨🇦
Allen must be in Heaven working for Sparks!
Allen's well rehearsed in heavy equipment
Ive always used a socket n lug nut to install wheel studs. Your way was fun too.
I've always used an air impact chisel with a flat head bit to replace wheel studs. Knocks them out and presses them back in like butter. You could have knocked them all out and the new ones back in the time it took to just knock the old ones out with a hammer.
Dave needs to supply a bigger hose for the 1 inch gun! My shop uses a 1 inch line.
Hey Allen, just a hint, quit using WD40 as a lube, or penitrant. It is a water displacer and protectant. If you are cutting or cleaning threads, use something with more viscosity, and then clean with something like a brake clean.
I wish I had a wizard to help work on my truck.
Yes...more videos of the build...excellent idea
This is a much better show with Alan involved. He seems like a good investment.
Allen a very talented man, awesome job.
Thanks you alot 😤 I enjoyed watching you guys always ❤️🙏
Thank you for the detailed videos.
AYOOOO! Love the new channel guys! Definitely subscribed! 🤘 All the love from Maine 🇺🇸
Two cycle oil for all threads. From a 50 year trucker that used a lot of binders.
Love this vid. Alan is a good teacher. Simple explanation of why and what he is doing
I like the new style .. like Alan’s up close style of teaching.. keep going
The whole team at Sparks Motors are just awesome! With big hearts to share knowledge! Thank you

enjoyed watching
Allen Needs a Gilligan hat Great episode Guys!
HAPPY NRE YEAR 2023
I like how wizard answers all my questions as he's working on something. Why is one U bolt longer? Well now I know!
Yes sir I’ll be waiting on the next round of videos. You guys are great!

Totally impressed. It took a great group of guys to get The Wizard down from his mountaintop. I’m so glad because Al is the diamond in the ruff.

Alan you should have some eye protection those chrome sockets sometimes explode when used with an impact gun
You need to put a couple washers between the drum/hub and lug nut. Just another comment from the peanut gallery!
Good job Alan
Get Alan one of the rasta hats. Like a tea pot cosy 👳♂️
Having done this in Germany on my 816 those drums will smash your fingers, heavy. I found it easier to leave tires on and slide them straight out. Made a plywood sled with pull chains
22:45, Keep the videos coming... I tend to binge watch them during down time!
I don't watch TV, I cut the cable years ago... I watch youtube videos👍
i would have used an air hammer with a flat face i do it all the time on bearings an studs but it is enjoyable to watch allen at work
The threads on a "U" bolt are really fine thread and the threads on a wheel stud are courser and need a torque/multiplier type wrench to tighten or to loosen.
I dit so many axel seals and bearings. I got a old trick to remove the old bearings shell the little one wil probably fall out whit a few blows the big one is a pain in the ass. If you’re interested I can help 😁. Greetings from a fan from Holland

Great video
Allen is certainly thinking ahead. Work smarter not harder.
Get him a “Tilley” hat, look up the elephant story.
Any advice on rebuilding 10.5” diffs?
I would love to see it
I want a Tilley hat, I’d wear that!
All the farmers I know swear by a Tilley!
A Tilley hat would be sweet!
This would be a great idea!!!
What awesome team work talent Alan definitely knows what he is doing
What does that mean?

Alan truly is the wizard!
Air chisel with a punch tip saves the swinging and doesn't test the Tinsle strength of the threads... I've had problems doing them the lugnut way.
Australian flip up on the side hat.
You guys just need the right tools
you guys are always tons of fun LOL great videos as usual
