    You can do this with acetone and dry ice, too. Used it to cold brand cattle. It blanches the hair pigment so the brand shows up white. Minimal discomfort for the animal and very little chance of infection or complication.
    Also in my undergrad chem class my professor, James Marshall, gargled liquid nitrogen AND stuck his finger in it. KING.

    It works a lot better if you do a few things differently; #1 insulating the outside of the container holding the solution with something like an empty metal bowl or some styrofoam will help reduce the rate of heat transfer with the open air, #2 isopropyl alcohol works fine, but it works even better if the concentration is closer to 93%, #3 using pure acetone (nail polish remover and paint thinner) works better than any type of rubbing alcohol, I don't know exactly why that is though. Great video nonetheless! I'm just offering some tips based on what I've been told about at-home ice baths without liquid nitrogen or helium

      @@charliesrandomthings5457 I was kicking myself for that too… the only reason I thought was because this ice I had was individually packaged and was letting off enough vapor to lead me to believe so. Thank you for the comment, this was a fun memory.

      Buy it from a grocery store for a few bucks, most of them carry it if you ask. Walmart/Costco are safe bets.

    95-100% alcohol doesn't just get colder, it also keeps the solution in liquid form and not so viscous, like the 70% you used in the video. Thanks

    I've been loving your channel so far!!! Some suggestions... maybe to explain a little bit more what is going on through the process (like a teacher) taking into account many people (including me ) don't know a thing about science jaja... and also to emphasize and be very clear with the precautions that must be taken in case anyone wants to do it at home

      I don't see why not. Ethanol has a very low freezing point also, which is the reason he used rubbing alcohol. You just couldn't use water obviously since it would immediately freeze.

    I'd like to do this with my kids, are there any other inherent dangers I should be aware of? I know not to breathe it, or touch it, and other warnings I should be aware of?

      you can breath a bit of it but don't inhale it because it has poisonous gasses
      only touch it when using work gloves that are thick if not it can cause SEVERE burns

    -28 Fahrenheit doesn't sound like much, but it's a liquid so it freezes stuff hundreds of times faster than air. Still, I wouldn't want to live in Yakutsk :D

      Yes you can!! Pass oxygen through a hollow solenoid through the solution of liquid nitrogen , then the liquid nitrogen will turn into liquid oxygen

    Nitrogen is about 70% of our atmosphere, so the only problem with making it is the amounts energy required to condense the Nitrogen into liquid form.

    I'm amazed that you can still buy dry ice in the U/S. Many developed countries banned its sale, to the public, decades ago. It can only be bought commercially. I haven't seen any, except from a CO2 extinguisher, for over 20 years.

      Yes and No.. The vapors are flammable and alcohol needs to be warm for it to change from liquid to gas. The Co2 would extinguish any flame that came into contact with the slush. But after the dry ice does it's job no more Co2 things start going back to normal.
