Update! I went out this evening around high tide - followed your advice and caught a 22" flounder, ling cod, and a gorgeous rockfish! Thanks again for your tips!
Great work - i am all set up to go this weekend - got my gulp, rods, sinkers. What tides do you find the best success with? Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for the input! I downloaded the depth charts around the piers - it looks like you are mostly fishing in shallower water. Do you find that to be the best? every any luck off the end of the piers into the deeper water? i bought a bunch of the swimming mullet gulp, but also some of the 6" large grubs (considerably bigger than the 4" mullet) i guess we will see :) My office is right by fort mason - you ever fish around their or that curved pier? any insights? again - you're doing great work - thank you!
Yes, you do need a license unless you are on a "public fishing pier" If it's a pier that is not designed for fishing, then it's not free and you are required a license and restricted to one fishing rod. Pier 30 is for parking, but it is considered a shore spot. Believe me, I've been stopped there before. If you don't believe me, then all fish and wildlife next time you see them.

Chase Murdock any slack tide will be good. The sardines usaully start showing up about an hour before dark that's a great time to go after rock fish

Pier 30 is not a free fishing pier.
