May 24 1979 and fifteen years old watching TOTP.
I was completely mesmerised by Tubeway Armys performance of "Are Friends Electric?" I'd never seen or heard anything like it before. It felt like the future had arrived. I bet that I didn't blink once 🖤

I am soooo jealous. I would have loved to experienced Tubeway Army live. I went to Gary Numans first ever concert in Denmark a few years back (just before covid). It transported me right back to the 80s. One of the top gigs I've ever been to. :)

To call someone THE most influential artist in the last 50 years is a bit over the top

Thank you for your support. Yes he is very unique. In my opinion he actually get's better and better at songwriting. I have been very impressed with his last couple of releases. Amazing music. I am surprised he's not more involved with film music scoring as his music is perfect for movies too :)

Very Nice overview. Fan since 1979, never gave up dispite criticism and mocking by peers, meanwhile seen him +100 times live and several countries and continents. I had the chance to meet him several times and he is just so down to earth and an real good person. Very happy the career is going will for the last decade and travelling back to London for yet another concert. Great bloke, and probably one of the most underrated influences in (electronic) music.

I 100% agree. I only saw him one time in Copenhagen which was his first concert ever in Denmark. Just before covid. I was at a pre-concert interview with him and he is the most humble down to earth guy. I loved his concert which took me straight back to the 80s. I listend to him for the first time in 82 where I was in a internship with my public school at a radio hi-fi shop. They gave me his album "I, Assassin" which i instantly fell in love with. I since then discovered his prior albums incl. Tubeway Army and liked those even more :)

One of the best ever musicians, simply because he writes plays and sings! I like many genres of music, including traditional country, which is far from Gary's music. But even the old Bluegrass stars etc, never wrote all their own stuff, and the great rockers didn't either!
Yes I think even if he had been about in the 1950's there would be many songs like 'flying saucers rock n roll'!

I first joined the ranks of Tubeway Army back in '79 Then I became a Numanoid in the later part of '79 and except a brief period after Outland Then machine and soul was released 😱 Thankfully Gary found his mojo again (Thanks Gemma)

I really dig the song he did with Paul McCartney & Mark Ronson produced. “I know time is calling”.
I like his last 3 records, but the Ronson song is a new direction that Gary excelled in. At least with that song. Definitely curious for more with the same vibe. What do you all think?

Numan would have been as big as bowie if it wasn't for the hate of the press,he's way better in my opinion.

Yes the way the English press treated him was disgraceful. I am so happy for him and for his current very welll deserved success. He's a legend and his music gets better and better :)
