Vocal fry gets the connection...and gets rid of all the compression in your voice.
GREAT exercise!!!
LOVE YOU BRETT!!
Drew Davis
I got this program 2-3 weeks before a gig.. And people were amazed on how much my voice changed.. If you want to learn to sing, GET THIS PROGRAM!
Thank you Singing Success!
Love these exercises, they took me to my REAL voice. I´ve been singing in a somebody else voice for years.
Putting together the most valuable vids for me from Brett Manning. Have been singing Opera for decades and have learned more from this guy in a few weeks than with all my teachers together!
Just incredible stuff. You are connecting the physicality of the voice with our mental understanding of our voice. It has changed my life. God Bless you.
totally agree with you! i don't have this problem anymore.. I just stopped trying to sound like someone else and concentrated on correct placement, did lots of scales and found my voice got stronger without the strain.
This is definitely one video I keep coming back to every couple months. It is the type of advice that is so simple but puts everything else you've learned in it's place and makes it all click together
Thanks Brett, as a group we use singing success and its helping a lot.
Fabulous tips. I teach Bel Canto singing and also implement these tips with my students. Miraculously transforming. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Man - I have a voice that falls roughly between sandy gravel & chalk - your "vocal fry" technique worked wonders almost immediately in me being able to follow the tone on my guitar. thanks!
You are great man i love the way you teach without hidding anything, you are very honest. I have your program and i've been practicing for only 2 WEEKS!!! and I can sing much more better now !! im really impressed ..I only did Technique 1 and Technique 2 its geeat! and i love the exercises... Nei Nei Nei!!!! I'm gonna keep practicing at my best I can't imagine how good would my voice sound in 6 months or 1 year!! THANK YOUU!!
I love this!!!
Thanks Brett, for sharing your knowledge!
I am a Romanian singer, former professional violinist.
Must say I have found your videos very useful; I see myself evolving pretty quickly.
I intend buying your entire program, but until then what you do here on UA-cam helps a lot!
I started really using my voice, and mastering my mix much more than in the past; a lot of things get much easier; I have the feeling that I am singing correctly and more effortlessly.
You're great!
As a fellow vocal instructor I have to say that the use of vocal fry in lessons and in warming myself up is incredibly helpful. It takes the pressure of and sets your chords where they need to be. It's also a great to tell where your voice is, if you can't do it and just hear air it's because your chords are too spread apart etc etc, this is good stuff
thank you for bringing your clear expertise to us for free !
his vocal program is amazing, trust me...and this is not some sort of a commercial, i just wanna talk people into it, because it will help them develop their voices sooo much...i've been using it for a few month and the difference is...just stunning...
I bought the program and its helped me. I have a connected voice and have definately increased my range within 3 months. Brett Manning has trained with one of the most famous vocal teachers in the music industry called Seth Riggs.
Brett's course is very good techniques to 'warm up' the voice properly, and techniques that reduce strain, and has the potentional to build and develop vocalists through problem areas while developing. If is extremely week for the beginner in connecting concepts that relate directly to the "Singing"; and does not properly discuss the types of limitations and time frame in developing. The examples are some of "his best." Buy it if you feel like being better, but it takes lots of work!
Thank you for your secrets and your impressive examples.
I bought the course and I could not sing to save my life. Now, I perform singing & playing the piano/guitar. It took me about 7-8 months. Its worth knowing his secrets. Thanks Brett & Company!
brett manning really helped me with my voice.
i can sing allot better than before.
i'm a massive fan!
Simply the best tip i've get for singing. Do it every day! Thank you!
Love the way Brett explains it all - nice and easy to understand - thanks for sharing!
Brett, God Bless you. you Rock!!!
These tips are great!
I've been on Brett's program for 4 months now, i've improved beyond my expectations and I'm just ordinary guy with very little musical experience... I've been very disciplined though. ;)
Thank you again.
Your programs really help me out. Thank you for all your great work!
His mix. His is so light and controlled it's similar to a head voice most people.
thank you so much for the great things you share here,it it awesomely clear and motivating!
I have this singing programme, and god am I lazy, but the things it has done for me. i haven't done it in ages, but i'm so gonna have to get back into it. I love it, i mean, without trying very hard, everything changes fast, and if you dedicate the time and effort your voice will be so good in no time. Sometimes I have to stop the excersises because brett says something and i laugh, but aside from that its brilliant
Yes I am eternally grateful! I can't thank you enough.
Thank you thank you thank you! After training with thease exercises, I was instantly better at singing! What was a bit surprising was that even my scream got better (a LOT better).
Coming back to this lesson its still so packed with quality technique in such a short time Brett you are truly a genius
Thanks so much! So glad you are here on our channel! Don't miss everything on our website--we have amazing articles, more videos, and info about all that we have going on. Here is the link: singingsuccess.com
A gentleman and a scholar. Thanks.
Brett! Thank you so much. I love that you told us your 'secrets'. They were brilliant. Very helpful! God Bless You ;)
Interesting approach to communicating vocal technique ideas - I've applied these same techniques in my own career, but Brett presents them from a different vantage point - good reminders for me.
WOW! The "Vocal Fry" exercize REALLY works!
Singing Success is awesomeness!
Wow! this is amazing! I can see and me feel an obvious difference in my voice! I love it!
You have changed my singing voice with singing success, now perform at Casino's. Thank you. Would LOVE to come and have lessons with you.
i can only wish to be that awesome.
Thanks Brett for your honesty and brilliance....
Great Video Brett, thanks to you my singing has improved dramatically in a few weeks. Thanks again.
Brett thanks for contributing to the music community. I've been playing piano (classical) for 3 years. I wanted to try singing and your video helped me big time, I can almost do a vibrato and I think my singing is not that good or bad
Thank you so much Brett!! I was looking for a few tips from u because i dnt hav money rite now to buy the programe...and these are going to help me so much. Just the explanation of these exercises has turned on the light bulb! Thanks!!
I know more about singing now...
I owe it to you, thank you
Thanks for the great advice
this was very interesting Brett. i have been singing for 2 years now and have a 2 octive range. not much, i recently found your site threw google on a search to increase my range, i just ordered the cds today and cant wait for them to come in.
I have been doing Brett Mannings vocal training cds for YEARS. And i've learned a lot.. But a MAJOR flaw i've found is that he emphasizes on technique and HARDLY anything on BREATHING.
I went to TWO personal singing lessons and had more improvement in my my voice than I did in 6 months of technique with singing success. I'll continue with Brett's stuff and it's awesome.. But he REALLY needs to focus on breathing.
if you're referring to 2:28-2:33. He is using the vocal fry to reset the musculature of the vocal chords, to take off the tension, so that when he goes back and sings up on a scale, it will be in a easier, more relaxed place. I really wouldn't think of the vocal fry as having anything to do with "increase in volume" that's not the purpose of the vocal fry, in my opinion. This exercise is about coordinating the voice, keeping it speech level, and above all, keeping the strain and squeeze off :)
i just got my package yesterday and i was like, im not sleeping until i finish all the cds! but its waaaay harder than it looks, but i love it! Watch out mariah!
This is probably the best video from Brett.
super super super thank you so much for your great great vocalcoaching technics!!!!
basic daily practice for singers..and he knows how to explain it.
nice.
very well I study the bel canto, your form of explaining to it is but simple that the technique lyrical congratulations ,tank ,gracias
LOVE LOVE THE TIPS THANX BRETT!
pure and utter genious!!
Fantastic, thanks for sharing!!
Many thanks to your programs: Singing Success, Mastering Vibrato, and Mastering Mix. esp. Mastering Mix - Covers SO MUCH important techniques; Great warmups on way to and from gigs! Light is Right, right?
thanks brett from ireland this helps a lot!
Brett you are the best!!! I love Singing Success!!!!!
Thanks for sharing Brett.
just found these videos im stoked!ive never had any vocal coaching just choir .this ones really interesting and when i did it my husband looked at me a bit strange lol .
To be fair to Mr. Manning, now that i've seen all his vids. very helpful! My voice lessons were a waste after 6 mos. Now for 3 mos have learned more about music/singing on my own & from other singers. It's a matter of finding those "special" songs in your voice range. Yes anyone can learn to sing either with a coach or on their own, well, not perfect. But sing the songs you love & that's in your range.
So I've been working with the studio a cappella of Justin Timberlake's Suit & Tie, thinking to myself - wow, this guy sounds like Brett Manning!
God bless you and I will be buying this I promise
I have the same problem. To some, singing comes naturally, to others it's a giant piece of work to get a good technique. Unfortunately, I count to the latter, of course. The only chance is to be patient and stand the frustration that comes with all the training and failing, over weeks, months, years, showing yourself that you really want it. Success WILL come eventually.
excellent video, I will recommend this to my clients
You can tell he has a great voice!
you are amazing. I hope i can hear you singing.
this video is brilliant Brett
Thanks for the great advice, I will definitely give it a try.
Thanks for sharing these exercises, much appreciated.
Those are perfect exercices! thanks a lot!
I bought some of his lessons...great techniques!!!
guys...... vocal fry works. My voice freakin went so high just now after doing the vocal fry! Without tension too! Brett, you're great.
The point of the vocal fry, initially isn't to get an increase in volume. The vocal fry keeps you at speech level before, during or after your exercises, singing, or anytime. I wouldn't be doing it as much as you are, but rather incorporate it with a training program like SInging Success. I personally use it as soon as I feel like I'm pushing or squeezing, i'll stop and do some vocal fry's on breath or on a note.
Oh my dear, you are so awesome. Thank you. I have laryngitis right now, and all I can even do is listen, but that's enough for me right now. :)
Thanks for that. I have trying to explain that same technique to someone last night and they didn't quite get it. I will send them the link to this one.
He Rocks. Brett is to voice as voice is to cords.
Great vocal exercises
Thank you for your help. It's much appreciated.
This guy is really amazing!
hes so knowledge able its amazing!
you sure would man! thats a completely logical thing to say.
you're obviously an intelligent man.
Brett- I participated in one of your workshops at the GMA in the Rockies in 2008- I was very impressed and bought your cd series- to my shame i haven't gone through much of it- but this video inspired me to get back into it- I am a Christian recording artist and a voice teacher myself. Only thought is that you need to take care of your own voice! Not too encouraging that you were in such a rough vocal condition when you made this tape...
hey brett..u're the best...i've done some of your exercises..and i really see the difference..thx.
oo..one more thing..can i clone u..lol...cuz i can't get over there,in US..is to far,cuz i'm from roumania..
i really apreciate that u've done this videos...
i hope someday i will meet u :X
keep it on
I think Brett does go into what classical singers identify as false chording, but regardless the exercises are very useful because you can bounce off that into a full voiced note with ease :)
so works... u guys gotta try his methods and watch his other videos...
Thanks that was very informative. My voice has been horrible lately.
Hey Brett!
I'm from the Philippines and I have discovered you through paramore. \m/
I saw Hayley's warm ups and I saw that you were really good. :D :-bd
I'm also starting a band here but if I have enough money, I'D REALLY WANT TO LEARN FROM YOU.
thanks for the vids!
Kaye
@1lastrun you can produce noise after the break, but you kinda use different muscles to produce the sound, if you try to force it, it not not good. The break basically is the highest you can go with your chest voice without straining, if you strain, you can go a bit higher, if you force it after your break, it would probably sound like really loud hooty falsetto.
excellent video! this tip is worth a million dollars. no joke.
this actualy helped me alot ,m and its good that this of for free , cuaz my vocal teacher keeped on taking my money but my voice wasent getting better, but this is awesome =)
@AtariMaxiToriyama I agree! I liked when he said he keeps his voice there with his mind!
How convenient the time you give out your top 3 exercises you're recovering from pneumonia >_
wow i did this a few times and my singing voice instantly got better
Man you amazing, you have the best tip/mini lessons on UA-cam! i was wondering if you could do a lesson on falsetto?thank you for you vids!
Surrender Power for Connection.
That is something that I try to think about at a human level.
I believe surrendering whatever we think power is in human relationships and getting together is the only thing that will work for us in the end, and I started to think everything works that way. The same for learning anything: first stop trying to fight the process of adjutsmen, of negotiating forces, and just trust your instinct that you are doing what's right and stop judging a work that is in progress and not quite finished yet. Don't let the obsession for "getting it" ruin and force the very process that could help you obtain what you want.
Peolpe who criticize this program I believe don't see things like that.
for anyone who thinks this is not helpful, you're so wrong. I found this extremely affected and thank you brett!
Thank you Brett..it's very nature..basic..I ve recorded a song named Revolution
too pitty I din tknov for these secret before recording..
but after all Sten Vrbek Revolution also on you tube
Im glade for made that song..about political crisis in Slovenia..
Question about the break? Can you produce noise at your break? I go up the scale in lip rolls and there is one point where i can not produce noise. Do I bypass the break point (hitting the note in head or chest differently), or do i develop the throat to learn to sing at that break. So I guess my question is can you sing a solid note at your break?
Thank you Brett
Yeah I used to get this when I sung in choir when I was around 11 but now I sing solo and am older I don't have that problem anymore. I'm pretty sure it's just your breathing technique. If you can get your breathing right, you won't have this problem :-) Breathe in deeply before a long note or verse etc and sing from your stomach. Hope this helps :-)
