Remember going there on a primary school trip once from east ayrshire. Was one of the best school trips I’d been on. Steeped in history. We didn’t get to go in the mine but it’s not changed much since the early 90’s. I remember bringing home a chunk of quartz crystal with a nugget of fools gold embedded in it
My dads large family and neighbours family regularly went for day drives and pickniks along the valley river leading upto the village. We had great times building stine dams and swimming in the narrow river. Dad once took us to a resident living in the prefabs he knew , very very quite people but welcoming of company. Strange place to me but probably but only as its so isolated and sure its a peaceful hamlet.
Thanks mate. Great day for it.. but very cold. Due to it being Easter the mine and centre were shut. That’s cool you got done the mine. The car journey thru the valley was really scenic. Wish i got some drone footage of that.

I recognised this place immediately from the Scarlett Johannson movie Under the Skin.
I just checked this one out. Yeah absolutely right. Its one I missed. Thanks for commenting Sandy. 👍
beautifull
Thanks for your nice comment. It is a lovely wee place. 👍
First thought I wonder if the guy at the start with the chainsaw runs on a different fuel mixture or jetting for that altitude 😂
I think he does. He was at it all day! 😀👍
Some of my husband’s relations come from there. Greetings from New Zealand
Huh, I never knew where Hope Springs was filmed, I knew someone who was in that show. TIL.
