This is by far the best explanation video for contact tracks, s88xx and basic event programming. I had it running within one afternoon, after watching video #3 for working the cables and video #4 for basic event control :D And as a native german speaker I can tell this is much better than the "Märklin Erklärvideos"!! I wish I had been connected with Marklin when I was much younger. You are so convincing with your videos that I bought the Minitrix Starter set 11157. I'm waiting for the English manual that was missing from the set. Happy New Year to you and all Marklin modellers.
Glad you like them and great you got the Minitrix 11157 - it's a great set. Please be aware that connecting the tracks is quite fiddly. If you have good mobility in fingers/hands, then it's not an issue. However, I got frustrated with the small tracks, so I went for the Kato tracks. Much easier to use. However, I am sure you will like the the starter set - it is great. Don't forget you can find the manuals on the Trix website. Hi Rod, a virtual signal is just a signal you have created inside the CS3 for which there is no physical signal on your layout. The CS3 allows you to create a signal without there being a physical one. Hence, you just use "Edit->Add article" in the top menu, choose a signal and set the name & address. Just like if you are creating a real signal. Hope this helps. Enjoy ;-)

Hello , i buy several years ago the Marklin starter kit 29500 ,with two differents train set , tracks and the CS2 ,it is a big kit for beginners , finally after several years i have time to begin build my layout...,in the meantime i bought more trains and tracks .The question is : i can use the CS2 or i need to buy a CS3 ? I dont see explanatory videos like yours about CS2...and none in spanish , but english is good for me.My dream is build a layout about 3 meters by 1.7 with a hidden station . What can you advise me ? Hi Alfredo, The CS2 is a nice controller - I do not see any need to upgrade to CS3. Consider it in the future. I do not have anything about the CS2 as mine is in storage. All the Märklin components that work with the CS3 also work with the CS2 - you can use all locomotives, turnouts, turnout mechanisms, m83, m84, signals and more. Welcome from Italy-Venice - a beautiful city! I think your question is if I interrupt track power in the track? I do not use any interruption of power on the track. In this video I use contact track to trigger an event when a certain point is reached, then then event will set the locomotive speed to 0. The decoder will then gracefully slow down to 0 and make it look like it is braking. Did I answer your question? Enjoy?

Dear Sir, I followed your video and tried it myself. I implemented the signals virtually, but was not able to get it working. My trains won't stop when the contact is active and the signal red. The software version I'm using is the latest version 2.5.2 (6). I build the events a ;you explaned in your video, but without the expected results. Please can you advise me?

I prefer H0 as this scale has lots of details and features. The models look great and come with sound and light features. I believe it is true this is the most popular scale. However, N-scale is becoming more popular and is growing. Let me talk about Märklin as that is what I know about. Märklin has 3 rails on the track, while other brands only have 2 rails. Many dont like the look of the 3rd rail. However, I my mind it makes many things like loops, automation, etc. simpler. In addition to that the MFX makes things very easy to get started by automatically registering locomotives, turnouts, signals, etc. You can use all passenger cars and freight cars on Märklin no matter what brand. Locomotives must be compatible with the 3-rail tracks. Roco, Brawa, Piko, etc. produce 3-rail locomotives, so you have no trouble finding German locomotives - however, e.g. US brands do not produce any - so it might be a question of what you like. 3-rail tracks are only produced by Märklin. So with the 3rd rail Märklin is kind of by itself. I like Märklin because it is good quality, works and is easy to use. Marklin is by default digital where many other brands look cheaper you have to add the cost of decoder, etc. Consider also other factors: Is it easy to buy where you live (germany - yes), where can I get help (stores, clubs & friends), and how good is you dexterity/eyes (N-scale is a lot smaller). Let me have a question please! In this layout how much useful or parkable length does one stretch of the station have for a train to stop? I guess something like 36 cm's. Thanx very much for your quality contents!
Hi Peter, This is a small test layout and for the outer part of the station there is barely enough space for the LINT 41. The LINT 41 is 48 cm long. The inner is too small - you could park it there. However, I would make the station a little longer for a real layout. Enjoy ;-) Bo

What I mean by parkable space is that a train of 36 cm length can be parked on the inner without the train parked blocking the other stretch. I have been thinking about this because I wanna use 2 curved turnouts and wanna add a 36 cm straight section in between. That would be 2x36 cm, which would be enough. Hope I am not mistaken. :)
@@gordospetiI agree that the inner rail can support 36 cm. If at the same time it is short trains with short cars on the outside I believe you would be ok. However, do remember that longer cars could hang out a lot between the boogies and might make the usable space on the inner track shorter. Actually, the layout will be mainly for the VT 98.9 rail bus motor car and class VS 98 rail bus control car (39978) + a trailer car, so I am quite optimistic. Thanx for your answer a lot!

There are many ways of doing it - please just consider how I do it as one of the methods making automation with the CS3. I did look at how to automate the station. However, I have not yet made an episode on the shadow station. Hopefully I will get to this in the future. Glad you like them and great you got the Minitrix 11157 - it's a great set. Please be aware that connecting the tracks is quite fiddly. Actually, the layout will be mainly for the VT 98.9 rail bus motor car and class VS 98 rail bus control car (39978) + a trailer car, so I am quite optimistic. Thanx for your answer a lot!

You need to remind the folks save and properly shut down the sysrem.
Hi Mike, absolutely - it is important to shut down the CS3 properly by using "Shutdown", Wait, and turn off power when completely shutdown. Also important to remember to save often. Enjoy ;-) Bo

In the later automation episodes I have described how I create the CS3 automation. There are many ways of doing it - please just consider how I do it as one of the methods making automation with the CS3. I did look at how to automate the station. However, I have not yet made an episode on the shadow station. Hopefully I will get to this in the future.
