I think perhaps using "morelia" species may be a bit of a better description for this.
While the video touched on Jungles and Diamonds, theres also Coastals, Darwins, Murray Darlings, South West and Bredli; all lumped as carpet pythons, but each living in different locations in Australia

The one of most overlooked “carpets” now separate species is Morelia Bredli. They are even less popular in hobby but they are bulletproof as they can tolerate huge temp swings and being from mostly arid area of central Australia and as adults they are puppy dogs. Just babies has a bit more of a temper but calm down nicely with age❤
Had a few just as a pets and they are an awsome animals to be around
The only downside is just a verry few morphs. But I’m more of a locality/natural looks guy so no problem for me

I keep and breed carpets as well and I think they make great pets! Some as hatchlings may be a little feisty but with work and time they come out of that and are the coolest snake that I've bred and kept. Truly amazing and their beauty is unmatched in my opinion. Keep up the great content Dav.

Personally I dislike barren, sterile-looking enclosures and might just be my brain humanizing the snakes too much but really we don't know what they are thinking. But even though there isn't enough branches, leaves and colour for my liking I still applaud this person for keeping his collection in a proper sized enclosure with uv, heat, and different hide and perch options instead of rack systems.

    • @Freakskpp

Yes If I had snakes I would want their enclosures to look like their natural habitats. I’m not a fan of sterile looking enclosures either. This guy definitely did a good job giving them the lights, hides n the shelf but still I’d prefer natural habitats or as close to it as I could get it for the animal.

They do like having a decent amount of mental stimulation, but you'll come to find that snakes (along with most reptiles) really don't care how pretty or naturalistic their enclosure is as long as they feel safe and secure in it and are having all their needs met.
Rack systems are best used with larger collections since having a bunch of separate enclosures is just not feasible anymore. Sometimes it can even make them feel pretty safe and secure since it mimics hiding in a cave or abandoned/recently taken-over burrow (which is what most snakes do for 90% of their lives since they're a camper build specialized for ambushing), provided it's not too small and barren and still allows for a temperature gradient.

  • @P0HTAT0
    @P0HTAT0 Рік тому +12

The answer is YES! Carpets are amazing once you accept that some of them may start out a bit nippy. A Jungle was my first Python was payment working for my sister's pet shop when I was 16 and that was 24 years ago. Now the more accurate reason behind it being a grate pet is most due to the fact they are more on the arboreal side of snake world. If you want to hold your snake for a while these guys are basically made for it and with age they calm down and will just chill out with you. Another reason if you are keeping them as pet only with no interest in breeding, they are perfectly happy without any sort of heat cycling. Last little thing about them is the shear diversity in beauty they are found in even without morphs.

Like all snakes one has to be ready for individual personalities, I've heard some stories about certain carpets being monsters...but the majority definitely are calm. Have to really be careful about feeding though; the one I have right now grew well beyond the size her subspecies is supposed to reach and then ended up very fat because she was given basically all the extra food where she used to live, now she only gets fed every 3-5 weeks and fairly small meals and even 2 1/2 years later we're still working on getting her figure back again.
I'd also strongly recommend sticking to known healthy lines of animals; could never recommend a jaguar because I just don't see it being responsible to perpetuate a line with neurological troubles tied right to the gene.

Is she an Irian Jaya by chance? Because even though IJ's are smaller carpet pythons, they are actually meant to be somewhat thicker bodied compared to other carpet pythons. My 7 year old and 6ft long male is almost as thick as a 6ft burm would be. But he has absolutely no folds in his skin, or fat rolls, even when hes in a tight coil. Its just the way they are built.

Just remember that bad reputations with snakes only come from people who dont know what the hell they are doing. Theres no such thing as an aggresive or mean snake. They arent even capable of that. If a snake is being defensive its simply scared. Thats all it is. Baby carpets are nippy about 70% of the time, because atleast 70% of them are simply naturally afraid of people as hatchlings. As they should be. Most of the snakes i keep have terrible reputations, yet NOTHING in my collection has ever bitten me in 28+ years of keeping various python species. I only get bit if im herping or handling someone elses collection. I keep all the stuff everyone says is aggresive, none of it actually is. I keep things like blood pythons, green tree pythons, reticulated pythons, african rock pythons, carpet pythons, etc, all of which have "bad reps", yet none of them have ever tagged me. My snakes are all well socialized little angels that even a child could handle. I can take my 10ft long, 15 month old African rock python out without ever using a hook. Shes my sweetest snake, yet everyone acts like they are the meanest snakes in the world. Its ridiculous.

Is it possible to breed these with ball pythons for an insane hybrid animal?

Are they dangerous to hold? Why don't they touch the snakes. I say bad pets.

Carpets are great but those cages are kinda sterile looking, very drab!

beautiful collection , but yet , the enclosures are so sad , like a lab , missing some enrichements and stimulation for the snakes . i made bunch of experiements with different species and type of enclosures , and i dont humanised reptiles , i really think they are underestimated and need more stimulation and things to do inaide the enclosure .
this facilities look like just a factory for make money with bredding . no bad intention from me or free trashing , its just my personal feeling about it.

I have a jaguar carpet. She’s cool but, a”good pet”? Naw people get a dog. My beagle is way cooler than this snake😂

Yeah these are not good enclosures. I get they are easy and manageable but this is not ideal. You should not encourage this guy and his keeping habits. I wouldn’t say it’s abuse but it’s not what they should have to feel secure.

I’d love a reboot if done right. Technology has come such a long way, seeing more of Vader like in rouge one would be amazing!!!!!!

I almost completely disagree with how he keeps jungles. They are semi-arboreal and should be kept as such. We need to move far far away from tiny minimum size recommendations and be honest about what these creatures are and how they should be kept. Personally, I’d say a single adult should have a minimum of 4 ft long 2 ft deep and 4 ft tall with lots of branches for climbing and ambushing prey.

In my experience you can never really fully trust a carpet. I've had many over the years of many species and just when I thought they were tame I would get a nasty bite.

I had an adult jungle that would never eat rats so I used to have to get guinea pigs. I wish id thought of birds like quails or chicken
