I've been learning the pipes for just a few years now, but THIS is the tone I want. Can you achieve this sound nowadays, by using a skin bag and cane reeds, which was all there was in PM Brown's day? Or is it the older recording technology, with a bit of an echo? This is what pipes sound like in my mind. I'll probably never get there, but it's a ideal worth chasing I believe, while everyone else seems to go for the ultra-high pitch and synthetic reed sound that dominates in piping now.
Never pass up a chance to listen to Bob Brown. I have this on vinyl still, bought new around '72 or '73 and still love it.
Love the lower pitched pipe !

These pipes are pitched lower that what is popular nowadays. I think the lower pitched pipes are more soulful.
