How amazing that this video popped up in my feed, since I am at the very beginning of my journey! I recently purchased your Tarotbound digital book and have been working through it diligently with an open and committed heart with my Llewelyn deck. I have two more decks coming (an RWS from Etsy, and the second Oak Ash and Thorn edition). I also have three oracle decks which I have been working with forever, and am so excited to be diving into Tarot. I suspect my collection will just stay to these six decks that are special to me, and will be able to live vicariously through other people’s deck collections on UA-cam. Thank you Dawn for being one of my first teachers, along with Kelly from Truth and Story! You two are absolutely lovely beings that I am so grateful to have found. Many hugs.
How wonderful and thank you so much for your support! I love the idea of keeping your collection small to just a few special decks. I did that for years and truthfully, miss having a small collection sometimes. I am so glad you have found your way to the Tarot, I wish you many blessings on your journey! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
The Crystal Tarot is a revelation. That was the deck that made me reevaluate the traditional Elemental Correspondences I had learned on the RWS. Love this deck! Yours look amazing with the borders trimmed off! 😍
I agree Georgina, I think it really is a important deck. I love it trimmed, although I do wish they would just release a borderless edition because there is so much detail that it is a shame the images aren't bigger.
Wild unknown is one I did not buy because I knew also it would not work. Glad you mentioned it. Would be good to have a video of ones you would like to trade with too.
I had a similar experience with Crystal visions as you had with Llewllyn. I purchased 3 decks when I took the tarot plunge. Hidded realms, which intimidated me and is still sitting on my shelf, Crystal Visions had white borders that bothered me so much, I could not connect with the pictures, and shadowscapes that I connected with right out of the box. About six monthd later, I took the deck mod plunge and removed the CV borders and edged it. Totally bonded while modyfying and now it has a special place in my collection and heart. And now I love modifying my decks and can't stop. lol thanks for starting this channel. My cup of tea. 🙏
I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. 😊 CV was one of my first deck mods (and one I kinda messed up a little lol) it's such a beautiful deck. Thank you for watching!
I just use a good pair of scissors. They have to be sharp and try to make one cut to avoid uneven edges. They will not be like factory cut, but I edge with a chisel edge sharpie in a chosen color and that helps smooth them out. CV was my first attempt at trimming a deck. Not factory, but looks and shuffles great.
I almost didn’t get the wolf unknown *because* it was so popular. I wanted something more unique.. so glad I did. Now it is unique because so many people decided it wasn’t for them after all.
Thank you so much! TMy Mary-El is kind-of a brick now, but I totally love it. I'll be doing a review of the Cheimonette here in the next month or so, it is one of my favorites as well.
The Wild Unknown was "my" first deck (me and 2 friends all chipped in and shared it because we all got into tarot at the same time). I very quickly bought a new deck and just let them have the Wild Unknown because I could not read with it for the life of me. The imagery is beautiful but it doesn't resonate with me at all. Even now that I have more experience, when I see a reading they do with that deck, I'm just like "How on earth did you get that from those cards???" lol
I've heard from a lot of people who experienced FOMO with that deck lol. I still struggle with FOMO from time to time so I try to keep this experience in the back of my mind. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes. :)
You and I have totally different taste - the only one of the decks I like is the Wild Unknown. Gratefully, there are so many decks now that there is something for everyone. Thankyou for sharing. 💛
I love your channel! I resonate deeply with your deck choices and I see my own oppinions reflected in your videos! Great, great series, the one for the collection of decks you have! It makes me want to start my own UA-cam channel to just talk about them all day, every day ☺️!
This was such a pleasure to watch, I really like hearing about people's tarot journey. It's really interesting what you said about the Wild Unknown and how it's still foundational because of what it taught you. (on an unrelated note; I really love the colour of your nail polish in this video).
Thank you so much! I do still have my Wild Unknown, I feel like it's still in my collection for a reason so I think it has even more to teach me. 🙂 Thank you so much for watching. ❤️
Thank you so much, modding the Mary-El to that extent was a really awesome experience in itself. But now I really love the deck, it's so powerful and personal for me. :)
I have a whole list of videos on my trimming process. If you check out the playlists on my channel, you'll find deck mod tutorials and process videos. Hope that helps! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I l o v e l o v e l o v e the crystal tarot !! The artwork is stunning ❤ Now i saw your trimmed version: And i will also do that to became a more deeper dive into the imagery (sorry for my english). I'm absolutely a fan of Elisabetta Trevisan. So powerful, earthy, also floral and lovely near to Klimt. Old but gold 💘💖👌 Greetings from germany.
It is a stunning deck. I do love my little trimmed copy, but I do wish they would release a full size borderless edition because I would love to see that detailed artwork bigger. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Yeah the wild unknown I never felt compelled to buy. Its interesting but its not quite my style. The Anima Mundi I am drawn to as far as animal based tarot decks. But I still have not bought that one. I tend to prefer traditional looking decks, renaissance and medieval decks tend to drawn me in the most.
I love a good medieval deck! My tastes rotate throughout the year, so I tend to work with those more in the autumn months, but they are some of my favorites for sure. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I was covering the Crystal Tarot and finally ordered it. It was in its way when I saw this video of your trimmed copy. I definitely want to do this as well; my question is, did you get to know it before you trimmed it? I’m hesitant to trim the borders then not be able to remember what some of them are ! Yet!
I took pictures of the cards (several in one photo) to use as reference while I was getting to know them. Sort of like a visual guidebook. 🙂 Thank you for watching. ❤️
I am SO glad to hear someone say WU say it doesn’t work for them. I bought it a few years ago because it was SO popular and because I DID like the art style. But I just could NOT work with it. Now strangely, I love and connect with her animal oracle deck, but WU? Nope. The same with the Sante Muerte. Everyone LOVES it. And I actually LOVE the art work. But I just… don’t click with it. Thank was considering getting rid of it but I may do like you. Keep it to remind me not to get something because it’s popular or pretty.
I have used it again from time to time and I do think I have a little more appreciation for it now but it's still not one of my favorites. If you are interested, Sadhanna from Integrative Healing with Sadhanna has a really interesting video on it. It did help me develop a little more of an understanding of it. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Hi there! How do you make the blunted edges so uniform when you cut out the frames? I plan doing the same for some of my decks but I'm scared they won't be uniform.
Nowadays I use measurements and cut the cards one side at a time to get the deck uniform. If you check out any of more recent Mod With Me videos, you'll my process. I hope that helps! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
This is awesome! I just was looking at the Llewellyn deck I just bought trimmed and need to edge. I have 4 markers and haven't made up my mine yet. I don't like Sharpies much either.
I'm not a fan of sharpie either, I have yet to have a really good experience edging a deck with them. I will be doing a video later this month that goes over all the markers and tools I use for edging if you are interested. My Llewellyn was edged using the Mildliner highlighter in yellow. The Mildliners are actually some of my favorite for edging, they dry really fast and they don't bleed onto the front or back of the cards.
Pip is a non-illustrated minor, so rather than a scene being depicted, it's just the number of emblems on the card (similar to a regular playing cards. I'm not sure about CV, what was the context? Nothing comes to mind. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
A pip deck has minor cards that don't depict a scene. Similar to a playing card, they just have the number of items on the card. I hope that helps! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
A pip deck is a Tarot deck that has non-scenic minors. So whereas decks like the Waite-Smith depict a scene on the numbered minors, a pip deck is a deck that just shows the number of items (for example just four cups or just six swords, no scene.) So decks like the Marseille are considered a pip deck. I hope that helps! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
@@DawnMichelleTarot i've been reading tarot for 30+ years and have read innumerable books on the matter, taken online courses, attended workshops, and yet...i still learn new things all the time! I'm SURE i've come across the idea/concept/name for this type of deck many times over, but apparently it never "stuck" in my brain until hearing you say it. haha. thank you!
I have to laugh because I'm with you on the Wild Unknown. I wanted to love it...maybe another time. I find sometimes I pick up a deck later and suddenly I resonate. LOVE your Mary-El!!! Have you seen the new version yet? No borders!!! The Cheimonette just arrived today and it's gorgeous! I'm very interested to see more of your video's but am going on about 6 hours now!! haha Thanks for sharing!
I keep hanging on to my Wild Unknown, I'm not sure why. Maybe some day it'll say "it's time." I have seen the new Mary-El but haven't yet ordered it, although I'm super curious, I'm really attached to my modded one, kinda feels like cheating. 😊 The Cheimonette is one of my favorites, I have to get around to doing my review of it! 6 hours, you are a champ! Thank you so much for watching me ramble about Tarot. 😊❤️
Hi Jill, my go-to is a Prismacolor Premier art marker in Jet Black. I generally do two coats and it covers beautifully (I rarely use Sharpie on my cards, I don't like the way it bleeds or smells.) However in shooting my upcoming edging tutorial I realized that my favorite black marker was pretty much done and had to switch markers last minute and I ended up using a plain old Crayola black marker. I did have to do two coats and it didn't come out quite as nice as the prismacolor but it did work well. The best thing about the Crayola is that they don't bleed onto the back (that's my pet peeve when it comes to edging.) But I recommend the prismacolor for black. I have found it to cover the best. Hope that helps!
