This is so cool! I already learned the signs before I learned the meaning, but even with my very limited prior knowledge of asl, I was like "hm, I know the sign for who is something else, I should look into this" and then I found this! As soon as I discovered DWSA, I knew that I wanted to learn asl for real, but this has inspired me so much more and fed that flame
Thank you so much!! I love the Deaf West revival so much, and we're doing some songs from it in a revue show at my school. I auditioned this solo, and I really wanted to learn the signs but I don't know any ASL. This helped so much, you're a really amazing teacher!
Thank you so much for this. I have been fascinated with sign language for my whole life, and seeing it in one of my favorite shows made me even more intrigued.
This is brilliant! I'm new to British Sign Language. I went to New York in October and saw SA and it inspired me to learn when I got home. I'm doing an online course! Loved the video and have subscribed. What a fascinating video and thank you so much x
this was so insanely awesome, ive wanted to learn the signs but the *boots* are such bad quality i cant really see what theyre doing, thank you!!!!!!!!!!
"Your being" / "my being" - easier to just say that it's formal vs informal. Doesn't necessarily refer to more or different aspect of the person being referred to. E.g. the formal 'you' is often used for 'thank all of you'.
Oo this is really old! But I'm commenting anyways! So when the part is "No sleep in heaven, or Bethlehem" she signs "Also" or "The same" at the end *The Y handshape to the "heavens"* to say there is "No sleep in heaven" "same as or also" "Bethlehem" ...that sign is being used to compare!!
I actually have a few more songs that I plan on glossing. I am only glossing the ones that have been performed outside of the theatre (i.e. Seth Meyers show). I actually plan on making a new one soon. I had some issues with getting my wireless to work for some time so it's put me behind. Thank you so much for your support and keep an eye out for the next song. Also, keep up with the lessons! I've seen some British signing and it's amazing!
+Haylen Pritchett yay! I'll keep a look out then. How did you start into learning ASL? What would you say are the main differences between ASL and BSL? And how long did it take you to master it? Thank you! I'm planning on keeping going of it!
Great video! Although your explanations aren't on point, have you run these by someone with experience? (i.e. Deaf person, HoH person, ASL teacher, etc) Overall i liked it though!
this is a really good video! I'm deaf but i was having trouble understanding the final part of the "bethlehem" sign so this was super helpful
I’ve been searching for a while, and I think you’re the only person on the internet who has done this! Thank you SO much!
The sign language is so beautiful!
Yes! This is so awesome! Next up definitely do Touch Me. By far my favorite song in the whole production.

Fantastic! Love your explanations!

Please can we see other SA songs from Deaf West's production?

I did. I ran it by my ASL teacher beforehand but as the video ages, I am finding I may need to make some adjustments. Thanks for your feedback!
would someone mind explaining the Bethlehem sign to me again? I can’t get it.
