How To Tie The Uni Knot [Quickest & Easiest Way]

  • Опубліковано 16 лип 2016
  • Of all the fishing knots out there, the Uni Knot is known as the most useful of them all. The Uni Knot is so useful because it can be tied directly to a hook or used for a line to line knot (the double uni knot).
    To see the full Uni Knot guide, click here now:
    www.saltstrong.com/articles/un...
    This is because is can be used for the following:
    1. Line to hook
    2. Line to lure
    3. Mono/Fluoro to Braid
    4. Mono/Fluoro to Mono/Fluoro
    5. Braid to Braid
    And best of all, this knot can be used to connect lines of very different sizes.
    So knowing this one basic knot can make sure that you're ready for almost all fishing knot needs.
    And if you're teaching a child about fishing, then be sure to pass along this knot because it'll ensure they can successfully tie their own leaders no matter what size and type of lines they use.
    In this video, you'll see how to tie the following:
    - Basic Uni Knot - used for tying a line to a hook, lure, or swivel
    - Double Uni Knot - used for connecting two lines of any size/type
    If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave a question in the Comments box.

    One of the best descriptions I have seen. Most instructions neglect the importance of finger positioning in tying the knot. This can make all the difference in regard to speed and ease of tying the knot.
    Also, I noticed in previous a reply that you did not feel that lubricating the line before tightening was important with today's modern lines since they are so much smoother than they used to be. I would love to see a video comparing the strength of the same knots, with one lubricated before tightening, and one that wasn't.

    I always look for the shortest video on tying knots. I didn’t this time and your video is fantastic. It’s worth the 9 minutes. Not only did I learn the knot but you explained how the knot works. That’s a huge help. I always forget if I go over or under or around. Since you showed how to look at the direction of the spiral I’ll never for get this knot again. Thanks!

    Nice video, as always. A couple more things to mention, specifically on the UniUni knot you used to connect the braid to the mono. The BIGGEST benefit of this knot is that the 2 knots butt up to each other and there is no possibility of the braid cutting through the mono like if you had tied a loop knot and then a uni to it. The other thing is you can cut that mono tag end off as close as you possibly can get with the scissors and end up with an almost snag-less line to line knot.

    Of course everyone is a critic. You did a great job and provided a very clear explanation. I have used the same knots for almost 60 years ( God that makes me feel old). And it has served me well. There are fancier knots but few will work any better. Thanks for the great video.

    I have always heard the palamar and the uni knot's were really the only two knots you really need for bass fishing. Great instruction vid. Thanks for you teaching us how it's done. Loo forward to future vids!

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  5 років тому

      The Palomar and Uni knots are surely the most popular of all fishing knots. The can cover pretty much any connection need, but there are definitely situations where other knots can be a better choice. For example, it's very advantageous to use loop knots when fishing with artificial lures because the loop knot gives them added motion in the water which typically leads to more strikes. The downside of loop knots is that they are weaker then the uni and palomar, so that lower power of the knot needs to be factored into the drag setting.

But I was able to get in a 12.6 Lbs rainbow and 7.5 brown Trout LoL if you are around Missouri or visit tannycomo needs to be on your list of things to do in Branson it won't let you down and hit me up and I'll return the favor and give you a few tricks to T-como 👍

    Thank you. Aside from the number of braid loops it is the exact way I do it. Because my knot goes thru my guide I try to keep it smaller. I do 5 and 5, so far no problems.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  Рік тому

      Unless you're using a thick braid over 50lbs, I recommend adding more loops on the braid side because it'll add more strength to the knot while having minimal impact to the size of the knot.

    I've been tying a similar "connector" know (don't know what it's called, learned it years ago), however, I found this to be a useful knot tutorial, as I'm always interested in learning new knots. . .especially when they're narrated as well as this one, kudos!

    I use the Uni-knot for all of my fishing and many other purpose knots. Occasionally I will use a polimar knot instead. I tie mine with the two lines in and out of the hook eye parallel and loop underneath these two and loop around the parallel pair for 5 to 6 turns, then pull and wet the knot and pull tight. I have used this knot to tie onto the hook shank, for fly line to leader and for tying different diameter lines together. If I do It right, have never had the knot fail me.

    Been out of fishing for nearly 30 years. Had pretty much forgotten how to tie this knot. Thanks for the super easy to understand video. Subscribed :-)

      Been fishing on my own since the late 70's, but only now trying to learn better knots, lol. He did a great job of explaining and demonstrating, especially that braid needs more turns because it's slicker. I never knew that!

    Very nice illustration. I'm glad you have the patience to show just how to do it. Many others who make videos like this go so fast that half the info is gone. Good work!
