I would argue , the iPhone 16 is not lack lustre at all , it looks to me like a great phone , and with lots of refinements and improvements. ! All the iPhones got bigger batteries, all the iPhones got improved chipsets , all the iPhones got the multi function button , the new iPhones including many old ones got IOS 18 which on its own was a huge software upgrade of nearly 8 GB ! Some of my pixel updates have been as big as 24 mb or 50 mb 😂. And you have to think , these iPhones are already very powerful and they work very well with other Apple devices. Add to that , you can run chrome on your Apple device and run google apps ! The reverse cannot be done on Android. I have a pixel 8 pro with Gemini as well as two iPhones, if I say “hey Google add milk to my shopping list “, the response I will get is I can’t do that yet, my iPhone 14 Pro Max , if I say Siri add milk to my shopping list, bang its done ! If I receive a call on my iPhone 14 and I have my hands full , and I say “ Siri answer on speaker”, bang it’s done , my pixel cannot do that either . The pixel can do some AI stuff , but a lot of it gimmicky crap though imo. People are hung up on the chat GPT AI hype , but a lot of it for the daily average user is imo is a nothing burger . It’s not like the old days where companies could make huge changes , because phones for the last 4 or 5 years have been pretty good as and stacked with features. What would I like to see on my phone regardless of brand ? Hardware and software that makes my daily life better ,easier , even convenience features, I still miss my 3.5 mm headphone Jack for example , even bigger batteries , louder speakers. On the small refinements we get every year , , I truly do not see how they can do anything else, these phones are pretty dam good already.
Definitely not lacklustre if like me you've been stuck on Android the past 18 months 😅 I'm happily migrating across to iOS (dynamic) island for the last time. I'll be investing in a whole suite of apple products to fully immerse me in the beautiful ecosystem 👌🏼
It is absolutely an expectations thing. Improvements in smartphones have been incremental year after year for over a decade now, and this is not just an isolated Apple thing. Once in a while we see something big like foldables getting introduced, but mostly it's just minor spec upgrades here and there that won't noticeably affect the user experience. Unless you're a diehard enthusiast, these companies don't expect their average buyers to upgrade every single year. The idea is to upgrade once every few years, then the totality of incremental improvements over that interval will amount to a decent upgrade, or to simply enjoy nearly free upgrades depending on carrier deals that year. The fact that iOS 18 supports devices all the way back to the iPhone Xs from 6 years ago is a testament to that concept. There are folks still rocking the iPhone 8 who are excluded from the newest iOS update, and those people will find the 16 a massive upgrade. The ones complaining about not enough year by year improvements are starting to seem like addicts who are asking for an unhealthy dose of opioids.
I currently use a 12 pro max and plan on upgrading to the 16 pro max. I am excited for better battery life, pro motion, macro lens, and smaller bezels. Do I need to upgrade this year? No. Am I excited to enjoy a new phone with many new features my phone doesn’t have? Yes.
@@RoachMartel That's one of the reason I don't upgrade from my 12 pro. And AI, as I'm european, we really don't know if we will have access to it someday ...
Before y'all self flagellate I suggest you take a look a 2 videos that discuss the large changes to iPhone 16 versus the 15. First video is by Andrew Zeng entitled iPhone 16, 8 changes you probably missed. Second video is by MaxTech and is entitled iPhone 16 Pro, Top 10 features. The 16 line has been changed in massive ways and those that think the exterior box not changing is important are lost in space, innovation (as Steve Jobs used to say) happens inside the box.
I dont for the life of me understand why people want to upgrade every flipping year like goodness gracious me a phone can last you five years and longer. I have a 11pm and my only issues is the battery right now and water damaged speaker and in my country we dont have official apple stores. For me personally I know i could get two more years from my phone but however I don’t like for things to fail then rush to replace them so I am upgrading this year and still i will use or give it to someone. Next upgrade probably another 5yrs MINIMUM!
I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and after watching some of the recently released reviews, I decided to cancel my pre-order for the 16 Pro Max. I realized I would be wasting my money since there’s nothing that truly justifies the purchase. I really hope the iPhone 17 line will be much more appealing. Cheers.
15 pro max has Apple Intelligence so it effectively has everything that new phone is offering. The issue is that series 17 also may not have anything new although apple folding phone is possible.
I’m on the same boat lol I was going to cancel my order but I’m not going to yet, I will actually try it out as they supposedly fixed the thermal issues and it actually is more efficient and has better battery life.
@@victoririas2366 if battery is important I think it may be good upgrade. Note charging and even battery has been similar for many years. This year they have out that layer of material to keep things cooler and that probably the main reason that charging speed is significantly increased. Based on apple history they may not change this tech for next 4-5 years. So if cooking or charging speed or battery life is important, this year may be a good choice. If demand stays low, there may be a bit better deal on thanksgiving too.
Yes you are correct this phone is not for anyone one that have a iPhone 15 plus . It’s for customers on older phones, UA-camrs, people who work in photography, people who own a businesses like me and it’s a tax write off. I use it for phone calls and my product photos and much more. And besides my current phone is a iPhone 12 Pro Max 4 years old since I took a business write off on a phone.
@@victoririas2366I want to see the new color in videos it tends to look different depending on the light. And it may look like my 4 year old phone the 12 pro max in gold I may take it to the store and change to black before I open it. I want to look at it in the Apple Store first before I open it. The color maybe the same as what I have already for 4 years
My biggest issue is the camera module. Marketing hype has resulted in the Pro becoming more or less a 1 camera phone. It began with the hype around the ultra-wide. This is an almost unused camera. I doubt that more than 1% or all photos taken on all smartphones are taken with an ultra-wide. It is an occasional-use camera, not an everyday camera. Then they removed the 50mm from the 11 Pro, and it has now been replaced with a 120mm. The huge leap between 24mm and 120mm is made up with so-called 'digital zoom,' namely, cropping. What would make sense is a 20mm, a 50mm, and a 100mm, all with 48-megapixel sensors. Then, they can apply their cropping zoom 'technology' to bridge the gap between these focal lengths.
I’m still using a basic 12 and was going to upgrade this year but decided to put new battery in it keep it another year and wait for the 17 and I’m the only one who thinks camera control button is a bit of a waste of time
Spot on, David; well done! Exactly what I was thinking whilst listening to Minus Sixteen this week. The big 3 should all have a view of this video and plan accordingly.
LOL! Mate, you're getting wrapped up in your own world here! You actually sound a bit peeved that 'normals' are getting most of the new shiny, which should be reserved for elites who can afford the Pro Max. I hope that's not the case. But the main point is normal people don't buy a new iPhone every year. When they do upgrade after 3,4,5 or more years, they do notice all the incremental changes. Whether these drip feed out annually, or every 2 years wouldn't matter a jot to my mum. It's only us industry insiders that watch keynotes and get excited/disappointed. And every model bar the Pro Max has very significant upgrades this year, I can't agree it was lacklustre.
You make the exact point I have commented on a couple of your recent videos. I currently have the iPhone 15 Pro Max and it’s the first iPhone I’ve ever had, unless you count the one I had in 2012 and took it back within a fortnight because I couldn’t do something as simple as reply to an email with both my invoice and supporting spreadsheet with a breakdown of my time allocation. Things have changed since then and you can now do such tasks but I wasn’t prepared to have an iPhone until they went to USB-C. However, I have to say, having had the iPhone for almost a year, I still miss my Pixel and Android in general. IOS 18 finally allows us to arrange our home screens how we like and change the icon colours. These features, and more, have been in Android for years. Back to your question in the video, there is nothing the 16 Pro Max does, that I use, that mine can’t do. I, absolutely, think a bi-annual release is the way to go because we are all getting desensitised to the, so called, advances/improvements because nothing is groundbreaking. A faster chip means nothing unless you’re carrying out tasks that can use that speed, such as video editing or gaming. However, most gamers use a proper console and I doubt many do video editing on their phone. It’s a bit like having a Ferrari and only ever popping to the shop around the corner; very few of us come close to maxing out our devices; even if they’re a few years old. We have just become conditioned to chase the latest and greatest. I think Google have the right idea by providing so many services in the cloud and having lower powered SoCs but an excellent on board NPU for AI purposes.
The old Android has had customisable Home Screens is so yawningly boring. It’s gimmicky and pointless. Almost everyone I know with Android has one because they are cheap. They don’t customise their screens.
@@NeilLavitt nothing cheap about a Pixel 9 Pro XL or Samsung S24 Ultra. Apple has consistently played catchup and then, somehow, manages to market the features as if they are new and the fanboys fall for it every time 😂. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and it’s good but is it better than a Pixel? Absolutely not. Will it have a better trade in value? Most certainly. As soon as iOS 18 was installed, my phone was customised. Long term Apple user probably won’t primarily because they’ve never had the choice.
@@DavidDeLuge no, that’s what flagship Android phone users, because compared with the real Android market, they are a minuscule proportion, like to believe. Most iPhone users stay loyal because of the ecosystem and because they just work, not because they are sheep. They make by far the best computers and tablets and their TV puck is best in class in being fast, not killing you with advertising and trying to control what you watch. Their watches are also great in working well with other Apple products to remove friction. The other thing is that when they do implement a feature, it works. I'm definitely tempted by the folding Pixel - hate Samsung's take on Android phones so will never consider them. I have a Garmin watch and computer for cycling, use a Quest 3 VR headset and have Samsung TV's. I have no illusions about the shortcomings of iPhones. They're overpriced - just like all the flagship phones.
Hi David - the point you make about having a Ferrari and only heading to the shop is a perfect analogy. Yes, I think we are at overkill and becoming a bit desensitised to - a little breather would be no bad thing, but know it won’t happen! The corporate world will win out, sadly but inevitably David
I’m upgrading from a 14Pro. I figure I’ll get everything from the 15 Pro (titanium, action button, USB-C, etc) plus the new 16Pro camera control and the eventual AI that the 14Pro won’t get. The 15 line was the first year I skipped and I’m glad I did. I plan to upgrade every 2 years from now on. Saves some money and the upgrades are better than year over year. - anyway, great vid. First time viewer and subbed 😎👍🏼
What I really care about is performance and battery, look I have a iPhone 13 and the battery health is 78% and sure I don't need all the new features but the performance and battery is a big enough for me to justify upgrading so people just need to look at it in that way
I would like to see a larger sensor for better low light photography that’s also flare free and a longer optical lens then just a 5x zoom!! All of the above is crucial for a PRO camera phone!
I remember the days when technology in certain products would advance every 5 or 10 years. Video game consoles especially used be the “latest and greatest” for quite a long time. Now here we are as consumers in the 2020s and expecting rapid product redesigns every single year. It’s mind boggling to me in a way haha. I agree with you when you mentioned holding back. When you think about it Apple has held back on some of their other products (AirPods max or iMac to name a couple). There are so many products in the Apple ecosystem and now with Vision Pro it’s hard to fathom the company can make such big strides with each and every product in a year’s time. I think they should just go back to the S phone naming convention and the consumer would not expect a ground breaking change every year haha.
Actually Tom, that is another point I should have made. Here we are moaning about a lack of innovation and yet it was only a year ago we got the Vision Pro! OK - it may not be for everyone, but damn it’s sure innovative and groundbreaking!
@@DavidLewisTech Absolutely! The Vision Pro is a collection of ideas and things Apple has learned from with their products over the years and presented in a new way. Perhaps Apple can learn from the Vision Pro and in time implement some of those new technologies in future phones or products. We may see a more mobile version of Vision to replace iPhone as we know it who knows haha.
Good point. There’s not more they can do with phones that’s ground breaking like back in the day. One could hope for a more elegant design, getting rid of the camera bump, and a true edge to edge design.
Hi there Susan - yup having used the Google Pixel 8 Pro last year for a brief time, that edge-to-edge display is something I'd love to see coming to iPhone
The last time I was impressed with a phone was the XS Max, I only upgraded to the 13 Pro Max because I needed a phone for work and I didn’t have a spare phone to use in the interim while getting my battery replaced in my XS Max
Thanks - I’m just trying to make the channel somewhere to have a good conversation with like minded folks 👍🏻Glad you enjoyed it - there is plenty more to come….
My 12 Pro came out four years ago. It still works fine, so I’m giving it to my dad. Getting a 16 Pro and gonna try to stick to it 7-10 years, if possible. It has the benchmarks of the M1 MacBook Air, the camera features I’ve wanted since I had an 8 Plus, and it looks like battery will be great on it too. Can we please stop pretending that these companies are bastions of innovation? They’re only so much they can change while laser focused on profits. Why are we putting these ridiculous expectations of radical year to year differences. Stop upgrading every year
As someone who uses an XR and plans to upgrade to the 13 Pro next year, I wholeheartedly agree with the philosophy of buying what you need rather than what you want. Although technology is enjoyable and we often get caught up in the minutiae details , it's mostly inconsequential. As a new viewer, I love the content, please continue posting.
I’m still on 13 pro. I usually upgrade when there is a major redesign but I always get the second irritation so they have had time to resolve the problems that arises from the new design. Usually it’s every 3-4 years. May not upgrade my 13 until they stop supporting it. It’s still a great phone.
I went from a iPhoneXS Max to a 13 Pro, I stepped down in size on the 13 because I found the XS to be a heavy and awkward to haul around. Last year I went out and got a 15 Pro just to step up in Camera, and now simply because of titanium I have took another plunge and just ordered a 16 Pro Max this morning, I am still a bit worried that it will be to big, but hoping the lighter weight and bigger screen will be worth the tradeoff in size! So basically size and having the best camera possible counts a lot for me, I am looking forward to the AI rewriting tools!
I would like to buy the 15 PM at a very good discount but the only drawback is the overheating issue. I find 16 PM improvements not worth it. Did you have significant overheating issues with it?
If you watch a video I posted a few weeks ago I cover this issue. In short no, I had no overheating issues apart from one day recently…it’s been my best iPhone yet
I have the base model 15 right now. I've only had it for a few months. I think, next time I'll get the pro max. I'm going to wait until the 17. This makes my decision easier. I'm looking more forward to the mac updates!
@@DavidLewisTech I might get a mini? I was thinking about an M4 IMac, with 16gb of memory & 512 gigs of storage. I’m also looking forward to the iPad mini.
I went with a One Plus 12 this year, it is hundreds of dollars cheaper than an iPhone 16 pro Max and has just as long-lasting battery life and comes with a charger in the box which charges faster. I always wait at least 4 years, if not more, so that it is an actually large upgrade each time. I have gone from apple to Samsung, to One Plus and have really been happy with all of them. Also, bing willing to jump between different brands allows me a certain sense of freedom and the ability to save quite a bit of money. I do also own an 11" iPad Pro, which I use for art and content conception. Another benefit of my set-up is that it allows me to have a foot in 2 echo systems at the same time.
This market is so mature now that facelifts and minor spec bumps are all that is going to happen hardware wise. The limiting factor is the OS. t’s taken 18 versions of iOS to have a password manager, and that has only been moved from settings for example.
I agree, annual updates is too fast a cadence particularly as they cannot keep up with the software. Slow down to every two years and be ready at launch with the software to justify the new hardware. Just launch a minor software refresh and some new colours on the off years. It is not as if they do not have other products to refresh on alternate years. It is weird that they go to so much trouble to keep the hardware secret until it is almost ready to ship, but deliberately pre-announce major software features months ahead of availability. I suspect the annual cadence actually hurts sales, because it becomes easier to say "I'll hold off purchase for a few months until we see what the software does", and then it's "lets wait just a few more months to see what the new hardware is like".
You know I never understood why they have to release one every year hold off if you not going to do much to the new phone. But you know what crazy I can’t understand why would apple release this phone and it will be ready for apple intelligence . And we are heard Tim apple say this is the first phone built from the ground up for apple intelligence
I have always said that privacy will be the differentiator between Apple Intelligence, Google’s Gemini and Galaxy AI, but the way Apple has handled the rollout of Apple Intelligence is chaotic and very un Apple like, which means I will be getting an unfinished product which won’t have its main selling point but hopefully there won’t be anymore problems going forward. I agree with you regarding that many that not just Apple, but smartphones in general have reached a peak. My current iPhone can’t do Apple Intelligence which is probably the only thing it can’t really do as well as recoding 4K at 120fps but the minor is not as important as the former for me as i think AI has some benefits, especially with productivity and the proof reading feature for Apple Intelligence is pretty useful but to be fair the rest of them as cool as they are such as Genmoji are gimmicks but cool gimmicks to try at least once. Anyway great video as always, David.
Hi there Adam - it’s always great to hear from you and I really do appreciate your input on my videos and to the channel. Thank you - and as ever, you make some great points as well. 👍🏻
I would be fine to wait and be OK with a bi-annual upgrade cycle for most tech. Imo the reason it wont happen is because of shareholders and basically Wallstreet demanding those current upgrade cycles.
A18/A18 Pro and M4 are the first armv9 instructions set cpu with 10 instructions (x86 has only 4). We came from 10 years of armv8, since A7 (iphone 5s). This is not a small speed jump, this is a much more future proof and a sub architecture optimized much more for performance per watt than armv8. People need to study a bit under the hood instead of only looking just cosmetic stuff.
there are so many upgrades, changes and improvements from the 15 Pro Max. My 16 Pro Max comes tomorrow and I upgraded from the 15 Pro Max. Some great new additions, especially for photo and video production. But you will always get the "it looks just the same" crowd ;)
@@DavidLewisTech just an example on A18 pro: A test made by iphonedo, using luma fusion, converted a 9GB file MP4 to a h265 at highest bit rate possible in 6:50 minutes A18 from iphone 16 took 12:50 minutes 😁. What a beast that A18 pro is.
I will disagree on the point about the selfie camera being a bit shabby. I have a 14pro max and I will almost always unless in great lighting flip my camera to the back to take a selfie with the rear camera. I am waiting to upgrade until we get a better front and zoom camera on one of the next iphones.
I must admit, being a camera and picture snob, I do the same. I use my Apple Watch to check the framing...but I always like to use the best lens whenever I can
I'd like to tell Siri to do stuff and it actually do the right thing. Every time. Even in the car (especially in the car). If Apple deliver that, then it's a big upgrade. I have a Homekit smarthome, also use Siri for shopping lists, reminders, messages, music in the car... right now it's pretty frustrating. Works often enough to keep me using it, but fails often enough to be annoying.
@@victoririas2366 But from none to one is huge. I dont wanna miss a whole year of better photos. I can always upgrade if they actually do something worthwhile.
I thought that the hearing-aid update was the only truly remarkable new announcement at the last keynote. I think it's huge and going to lead to a lot of new sales for Apple and deservedly so if it works well.
As I said, I totally underestimated how big of an announcement that was. Hats off to Apple over that. It's times like that which still shows Apple in their best light
Goodday David, it is my first time here. And among UA-camrs, you have made a very compelling argument on upgrades. Sure i have a 15plus, looking to jump to 16plus, realized sure i have not exhausted my phone and it is in good condition. Rather i wait for the next year or 4 years.
Welcome aboard! Always great to hear from new viewers and I'm chuffed you liked my thoughts. Hopefully, you'll be back for more! If you get the 16 Plus I hope you enjoy it!🙏🏻
Very good analysis and good points made about the 'incremental' updates. Like many of us I like my tech and love to try the new phones from Apple and Samsung but the camera tech improvements are relatively minor. Look at Oppo, Vivo and Huawei and they are implementing 1 inch sensors and 50MP across four lenses in their phones. This size of sensor is probably the limit of what will fit into a mobile phone keeping the current styling, so more emphasis has gone into software and AI imaging.
@@DavidLewisTech Thanks i'm seeing so many wait for the iphone17 don't upgrade vids that it's got me on a fence. But life is short having a mid to low performing camera for one more year seems like a waist. i'm thinking i might be in a better position with a 16 pro and wait until the new eu law for battery replacement hits in 2027.. i will be due in 2028 for a new one after the 16 if all goes well.
I have an iphone 11. I love the aesthetics of it (the curved edges) and it serves my daily needs well (listening to music and podcasts on my daily commute). I hardly ever make phone calls and I mostly use it to send messages. By the way, I do use shortcuts! When my battery gets below 50% it notifies me to run the low battery mode. Useful. And of course I take a lot of pics. My coworker just the other day remarked on how good the images looked and was surprised when I revealed it was from my humble 11. Having said all that, yeah, it's time for me to get a new iphone and I'm feeling a little excited about it. To be honest though, my phone is my least favorite Apple device, umm ok, maybe my Apple TV is, but it's not my favorite. Never was, despite it being something I use everyday and would absolutely dread if I forgot it at home on my way to work.
It’s odd, but I’ve made that point before. The Apple device I use least of all is my iPhone! I’m on my Macs nearly all day and they do pretty much all I need…
Expectations too high? Always. That's the culture of the internet. This phone was aimed at someone like me, coming from an 12 Pro Max....HUGE upgrade for me.
Thank you thank you I’m glad you said it right that’s why I made up my mind to change every 4 years. I’m on The iPhone 12 Pro and I ordered the 16 pro max and I’m excited. But what’s getting me that so many people are upset with the new iPhone. They act like they have to have a new one every year. And that’s the problem they can’t wait 4 years in between phones to buy one. So UA-camrs and others are complaining the most and don’t forget Wall Street are they care about is money. So I can’t wait for my phone to arrive on Friday.
i feel like phones stagnated years ago it's like comparing a laptop from 3 years ago to todays one not really worth thinking about it unless it's just plain broken or too slow.
David, this is going to be a rant, but maybe you can use it in a future video. I am sick of being nickel-and-dimed by Apple when it comes to their upgrade pricing, especially on the Mac. The MacBook Pros are some of the worst value. If you want 8 TB of storage Apple will happily charge $2,000 for the upgrade. You can buy an internal SSD for less than half that at $800. If you want 24 GB of RAM in a MacBook Air Apple will charge $400. 24 GB from Crucial is $61. These prices are obscene and insulting to Apple's customers. I love Apple laptops. I've been using Apple computers since 2003 with an iBook G4. But the markup on these upgrades are unjustifiable and pure greed and it's a shame to see how they care more about their shareholders than the people who buy their products to keep their business sustainable.
Thanks for this one Dell - I can possibly see some future in this one. I think they know that with Apple silicon, users will be changing less and less frequently. So they are going to screw us hard for every upgrade whilst focusing on the very profitable services side of the business... I agree, their storage costs are daylight robbery...
Looking from new performance/efficiency and battery life tests, the iPhone 16 range actually provides a sizeable improvement while simultaneously reducing power usage significantly! And that provides awesome battery life. The update from iPhone 15 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro is the same as the 12 Pro to the 13 Pro, not as many drastic changes but a huge performance and battery life boost which still made a great phone in the form of the 13 Pro and Max
Finally someone talking sense! Bring back the s models at the very least but I’d happy to wait a few years and hopefully be a bit more wowed. iPhone 3G through to the 6s was a great model, every two years something new with the form factor and more distinctive IOS changes that felt less like gimmicks and more like refinements to the OS. Either way I think this video is a fantastic take on things 👏🏻
Thanks Joshua - I’m loving the like minded community we are growing here. I love just trying to have a reasoned discussion, raise some points and have a good debate about them. Thanks for getting in touch and I’m chuffed you enjoyed the video too 👍🏻
Two things: 1. The magnifier is brilliant and 2. I have zero interest in genmoji and will probably never use this feature ever. The A.I. feature I look forward to is a better Siri.
Another great video David I'll be looking forward to your unboxing of the 16 pro Max. I am in the States and my ProMax will be arriving on Friday also. Been with Samsung since 2011 have had every flagship model since, now going back to Apple.
Hi Stephen - well, at the moment I would say it looks likely that I may have to take a trip in to London to pick mine up, but one way or another, I should be getting my hands on one tomorrow! Let me know what you make of yours! 🙏🏼
You're too keen on comparing last year to this year. I'm upgrading from iphone 12 mini to 16 pro and I get: * 2 times fastech chip * 5x telephoto camera * better cameras (a lot better) * AI future * better battery * bigger storage * titan body * more durable screen * high refresh rate * better HDR, higher brightness, low brightness * always on display etc...
That was the point I was trying to make - if we waited just a little bit then the net gains are so much more worthwhile! You are in for a real treat! 🤛🏻
_iPhone 12 Pro, the Picasso of Apple’s masterpieces, really hit that "wow" factor for pro photographers with its ProRAW feature-practically begging them to abandon their DSLRs._ _Then, we got the iPhone 13 and 14, which were basically Apple’s way of saying, “Hey, we know you love spending money on what you already have, so here’s more of the same with a sprinkle of videographer bait.” And now, with the iPhone 15 Pro, it’s like Apple remembered, “Oh wait, let’s actually give real professionals something they can use!” Recording in professional resolution log 422, 48-megapixel photos, and even AAA gamers were pulled into the mix._ _Fast forward to the future-who cares about the 16 or 17 Pro?-the iPhone 18 Pro is practically guaranteed to follow in the 15’s legendary footsteps, making sure even Hollywood directors will want to trade their film cameras for Apple’s latest creation._
so, I have been tempted by the idea of shooting some of my talking head videos on the 16 Pro Max to see how it stands up against my Canon. Good idea do you think? Clearly, you are a creative/photographer - do you think the cameras will soon be good enough to use professionally?
First time in 6 years I haven’t preordered and due to salary sacrifice and trade in they cost me very little. The lack of AI and some lacklustre comments about the new. Camera have put me off. I’ll probably get to it in December. AI is for wealthy people to avoid needing the skilled and for the skilled to become irrelevant. If we’re not careful we will create a new underclass in the race for greater profits and dividend payouts.
Great point well made Neil - it’s like the logos you can get done on Fiver! I mean who can make a living at those crazy rates eh! Paying for a skilled craftsmen should be applauded, not avoided…
I feel the features I want and need are not necessarily hardware related on my mobile device needs (iPhone) , it’s the first party app and ecosystem integrations . Reminders , calendar , notes , journal , pages , numbers . Safari , mail . Shortcuts , contacts , Freeform . If they worked together even better and with extra feature sets I would not need or want third party apps like day one and Anytype and capacities . More innovation in the health and activity apps so I would not need or want Strava . There’s a lot of scope for further improvement. Love 🍏
Great video! You really try, David, but as they say, “you can’t fix stupid.” People who are upset and “refusing” to upgrade from the iPhone 15 to the iPhone 16 equivalent or conversely from an iPhone 8, require too much energy. In my opinion, Apple has been making incremental updates since the iPhone 6, but the improvements over time-leading up to the iPhone 16 lineup-have been a master class in innovation. From Photographic Styles and ProRes RAW to the cutting-edge security technology of Face ID and the iOS 18 implementation of the delightful Dynamic Island, Apple has consistently pushed boundaries. You’re absolutely right-there’s so much capability built into iPhones that many of us either never learned about or simply forgot. We keep demanding the “new-new” when we’ve barely explored the “old-old.” I keep telling myself I’ll dive into Shortcuts soon!
Sharon, promise me this, when you master Shortcuts let me know how the devil to use them! It's strange how Apple always seem to get it right in the end. For the first year I hardly used the Dynamic Island, but now I use it all the time. And now with iOS 18 freeing up the lock screen icons (camera & torch), the Action Button makes more sense. It all comes out in the wash with Apple doesn't it Sharon!
@@DavidLewisTech Yes, Apple always seems to release something that fits into a larger vision that I hadn’t even glimpsed. After the release of the Vision Pro, I understood better why Apple would, seemingly out of the blue, include good features but no one asked for. Features like AirPods’ Spatial Audio, the Apple Watch’s finger pinch accessibility, and the iPad’s Universal Control all made much more sense in retrospect.
@@DavidLewisTech I’ve heard 3-4 years ahead. We saw it during the chip shortage. Apple barely experienced a ripple when everyone else’s bottom dropped out.
Me and the wife have always waited at least two years to upgrade. We stagger the upgrades. The wifes turn this year. Shes i going from a 14 to a 16. She is going to be amazed at the difference.
Hi - thats a really clever way of working it! A great idea! I hope the missus loves her 16…I’m sure you’ll be allowed to have a little play with it every now and then 😀
Eventually you will reach peak design (for what it is capable of right now). That’s why the iPhone hasn’t changed much in the last couple of years. I honestly do not see anything worth changing or redesigning. And changing for the sake of changing just doesn’t make sense to me. I do agree we need the yearly (incremental) refresh. While it might be a minor change from last generation, it might be more substantial for even older generations. A 2 year cycle forces us to do longer periods with phones yes (like 4 or 6 years). But a yearly cycle gives you more freedom are you’re able to jump on the new phone after 3 or 5 years. We just need to change our mentality to not upgrade every single year. And I feel like reviewers should not only compare the incoming model with the outgoing model, but also with older models, giving the consumers a way better perspective on their own situation.
Upgrading every year is a ludicrous proposition for many folks. I wonder why tech channels even entertain the proposition. I imagine the users who upgrade every two to three year years are prudent, and in the majority. I'm on a three year plan myself for the iPhone, and MBP. Even longer for my Applewatch and two iPad Pros. It all adds up pretty quick if I were to feel compelled to upgrade EVERYTHING on an annual basis, just to have the latest and greatest.
hi - yes, I agree with you. As you'll understand though, for those folks that are due to renew this year, it's important I cover the new phone in my own way to help folks with the purchase
@@DavidLewisTech I totally understand your POV. I’ll be upgrading my 12 Pro Max this year to a 16 Pro Max, and also want to upgrade my stainless steel Apple Watch 5 to a titanium Apple Watch 10.
thank you 🙏🏻 I've had enough of all the 'same old same old' channels spurting out all the same stuff, so I'm just trying to make our channel a bit different...
ive waited 3 years im going from 13 pro max to 16 pro max only for ai and im hoping its a bit better than the 13 pro max all round but it does me thats why i waited 3 yrs
You ask, "When was the last time you were truly impressed with something that you're going to wait and used every day?" With the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple put a 48 MegaPixel sensor in the camera. That got me to purchase the 14 Pro, because for the previous five or six years I had been using a tiny 1st Generation iPhone SE. With more detail in wide-lens (Main Camera) photographs, and with the larger, easier to read, screen. I was sold. But I did skip the iPhone 15, because the upgrade from the 14 wasn't all that much. This time I did pre-order an iPhone 16 Pro Max, because it added a few things the iPhone 15 doesn't have, and going from the 14 Pro to the 16 Max is a bit larger jump. I pick it up tomorrow at the Apple store. How much will I like it? Ask me next week.
I’m totally with you on the “AI gimmicks”. I don’t know if the younger generations (I’m 47) are really into creating custom emojis, if so good on Apple for filling this niche, but that’s not something I’m interested in. I’m also not interested in my AI having a “fun personality”. I just want it to do all of the amazing things it can do like a computer and not try to be my best friend. I told my wife the other day that all of these AI personalities can be blamed on one person, Microsoft’s Clippy. 😂
I believe most people, or at least myself AI, all i want from it on a phone is spelling and grammar checks in texts/ emails. In the photo app, having AI intelligently group like photos of people, pets ect so i could type in Dog or type in a persons name ect and it finds all photographs of that. Then finally, having Siri onboard smart enough to find what i need on the device or web. Thats all to be honest, i dont really want open ai or even on apple servers tbh, but if somethings have to be off device, on apple servers only. I just wish they put in more ram and neural engine, so there can be more done on device
If I get a new iPhone in the future, it'll either be one of the 17 models next year, or the SE4. I use to have the 11 in Purple, followed by the 13 Pro. I currently have an S23+ in Lavendar (paid off and keeping it). If Apple prices the SE4 right and it comes with a 90 hurtz Refresh Rate, I'm good! Or if they price the 17 regular aggressively enough with a 90 hurtz, also good!
I think you hit the nail on the head with your “chasing the dragon” comment ie. Tech is very addictive if done without care for society and there is no escape from this Capitalist matrix, for me anyway(I am on a lot of prescription medication), other than going completely off the grid.
Capitalism doesn’t do waste well. Everything is driven by maximising profit and year on year growth. The implications are strikingly frightening as nature will always find and equilibrium and that is about equal reaction to action. The cognitive dissonance around this from our leaders and industry champions is mesmerising and shocking.
Hi there John - lovely to hear from you. It is a dangerous addiction and folks are being teased to spend more they don’t have and don’t need to be spending in the first place. Do take care of yourself 🤞🏼
Interesting take David and I think it is our fault for sure, but in my mind its because they can’t afford to innovate too hard on a device and have sales tank for a year so they are forced into a more conservative, iterative cadence 🤷♂️
Hi there Don that’s a great point you make actually about not being allowed to innovate too hard! Very much of a similar mindset aren’t we? Great to hear from you
Apple have massive overheads & bills to pay. R&D of all these chips is very expensive, Cupertino HQ, staff. Maybe reintroducing the S phones, so software & hardware teams have more time to develop & test ideas, as you suggest
Most people should gradually move to the Fibonacci upgrade program. Wee are in a maturing market and long past peak cellphone. Every time your phone's model number matches a Fibonacci number you upgrade. I had the iPhone 8 and upgraded to the iPhone 13 Pro. I am now waiting for the iPhone 21 next (8 + 13). I want to think I will be alive for the iPhone 34 (I will be 76 then....so it's going to be tricky). This gets you the most features each upgrade, the best value for money and the most stable persistent features as well now you will get a fully developed 2d Generation AI! Your welcome.
The question then becomes; Are we just like silly children who are waiting for Christmas to arrive and be gobsmacked, only to be disappointed in the end? Tech has reached a point where we see incremental advances, not geewiz-holy cow upgrades. So, why not be satisfied with the device in your hand, and actually wait until you really need to upgrade? I don’t need to replace my iPhone 15 Pro simply because the 16 Pro came out…..
Apple has traditionally had many years of software support. Maybe with the advent of AI the software cycle could shorten from 4+ years to 3 and this will drive hardware upgrade.
I don’t really see it as a complicated decision. I normally get the latest Pro Max every two years. I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max now. This time I was considering waiting a third year, however, I don’t want to miss out on all of the new AI functionality that will begin rolling out next month and keep rolling out throughout the following year, so not sure that I had much of a choice, but to upgrade. My plan is to keep this one for three years and hopefully get the iPhone Fold. If the iPhone Fold comes out in two years, then I would still upgrade in two years. So for me, it’s a pretty clear decision, and I’m not upgrading for any of the basic incremental updates, and I wouldn’t just for that, but that’s not what this is, and I don’t know why most of the reviewers don’t get that.
hopefully, I have thrown a little perspective on that standpoint. Folks generally know when it's time to update and will workout what is right for them. Great to hear from you and thanks for getting in touch...
I find all this iPhone 16 hate on youtube is silly. The iPhone 16 Pro has so many more new features than the iphone 15 Pros. Everyone keeps talking about the 15 Pros because it finally got the usb-c. Big whoop! The 16Pros got so many more new features.
increased battery life is the most compelling reason to upgrade for this PM15 user, and that is almost compelling enough. However, might as well wait for the 17 or 18 at this point.
I was literally just one click away from biting, it was in the basket ready to be paid for....and i just thought....nah! I've got a 15 Pro what's the point? Maybe the 17.
Ppl need to stop looking at phones like they did 15 years ago. Look at them like new cars. They have subtle changes every year. But only ever 4-5 years do they have big design changes
To answer your questions: absolutely nothing. I am waiting for next year's iPhone at least before upgrading! So disappointed with the offerings this year. I have the iPhone 15 Pro Max so will be able to use AI (when it eventually gets arrives!!) I am looking forward to the GenEmoji coming - but dunno how often I am going to actually use it.
Hey - great to hear from you. Honestly, if I didn’t have the channel there is no way I’d be swapping this year. The 15 Pro Max has been the best iPhone I’ve ever owned! 💥
It seems to me that Apple fans want to be wowed every year like they were in the early days of iPhone. I think that’s unreasonable. The innovation curve has hit the point where it’s flat. Software is where innovation is now. Short of foldables hardware is iterative.
It's not really the Apple fans. It's the diehard enthusiasts who can't help themselves but to upgrade their phones every year, whether it's an Android or an iPhone. They'd say the same things about Samsung. Even foldables are getting small incremental changes year after year as they settle into their forms. It's like watching drug addicts, except they're on the internet instead of the streets.
Hey David great video. I have the 13 pro max and honestly I’d only want a new iPhone for Apple intelligence so I can make stupid memes and images and emojis. But I’d rather buy an M4 iPad Pro bc my iPad Pro has a cracked display and I replaced the battery in my iPhone a month ago. Apple wants your money they don’t care how.
If Samsung mocks the camera control button, know that Apple has hit the ball out of the park. And expect some android phones to follow apple with a dedicated camera button. on the Ai front, Pixel will always rule.
I was going to dislike as pre-launch click bait, but every point you make is valid so fair play. AI for most people is completely pointless right now. If you watch all the US Apple ios18 ads you’ll realise just how utterly pointless it is right now.
Hey Mark - that means so much! It’s a fine line in trying to grab attention, but then deliver good content. Trust me, I will never knowingly go down the click bait route! That star burns out pretty quickly. Hopefully I’m finding viewers like yourself who want something a bit more mature and considered! And I agree, so much of the AI we are getting is simply gimmicky & pointless. Great to hear from you and hope to see you here again 🙏🏼
How much more do we need our phones to do, yes they could do a few more things better. But when you have something that does a lot of things early is it great at everything, it may do something’s better then other stuff, like the saying goes a jack of of all trades is a master of none. Even with phones doing more it also comes down to how good your cellular service is and yes they my provide unlimited data once you reach a certain point they slow down your speed
Just throwing some ideas at you - are we to blame for the lacklustre iPhone 16 release?
Its not lackluster if you have not bought a phone in over 4 years?
I have the iPhone 13 two yrs and TBH with iOS 18 it’s good for possibly 3 more yrs.
I'll be investing in a whole suite of apple products to fully immerse me in the beautiful ecosystem 👌🏼
enjoy my friend!
Yup, as you rightly say, those smaller year on year updates make for a pretty meaningful update after 3 or 4 years
Only Huawei Mate Xt is the only innovative smartphone this year
Why do people always buy new cars although previous models are still ok? Same with iPhone! We love it!
Right? Like just buy it or don't. Nobody cares😅
Cars year to year change little too.
Yup Daniel - correct and guilty as charged! ✌🏻
I currently use a 12 pro max and plan on upgrading to the 16 pro max. I am excited for better battery life, pro motion, macro lens, and smaller bezels. Do I need to upgrade this year? No. Am I excited to enjoy a new phone with many new features my phone doesn’t have? Yes.
I have the same idea. However, the rumors of the iPhone 17 are already spreading.
@@RoachMartelbeen spreading for last year
And you’ll get to use the Dynamic Island, Action Button and Camera Control as well! Happy days my friend!
Thanks for the heads up
@@DavidLewisTechlol
I upgrade every 3 years or so, I let all the new features ‘pile up’, I upgraded from the 12 to the 15PM and it was a nice upgrade
And that sounds like the way to go for me…I think you’ve got it nailed! 👌🏻
I love that approach. Before I ran the channel I routinely held on to phones for 3 years….
The color maybe the same as what I have already for 4 years
I like to upgrade every 2 years. Trading my 14pm for the 16pm. Couldn’t I keep my 14 yes but I just having new devices.
Exactly - you’ve worked hard for it, so enjoy it! That’s what I say!
I am moving up from an iPhone X to the 16 Pro. Goes without saying, major upgrade.
Hell yes - you are in for a treat!
You should’ve moved to the 15 Pro. You missed out on iOS 17 completely
I’m still using a basic 12 and was going to upgrade this year but decided to put new battery in it keep it another year and wait for the 17 and I’m the only one who thinks camera control button is a bit of a waste of time
It’s not a waste of time. It does some cool stuff
Spot on, David; well done! Exactly what I was thinking whilst listening to Minus Sixteen this week. The big 3 should all have a view of this video and plan accordingly.
Hey Josh - thank you. Yeah, I just thought it needed to be said and start a conversation…hope you are having a great week!
@@DavidLewisTech very true ☺️
I’m upgrading from a 14Pro. I figure I’ll get everything from the 15 Pro (titanium, action button, USB-C, etc) plus the new 16Pro camera control and the eventual AI that the 14Pro won’t get. The 15 line was the first year I skipped and I’m glad I did. I plan to upgrade every 2 years from now on. Saves some money and the upgrades are better than year over year. - anyway, great vid. First time viewer and subbed 😎👍🏼
Thank you so much for the sub! That helps me out so much! A two year plan is a solid approach 👍🏻Enjoy your new phone…💪🏻
What I really care about is performance and battery, look I have a iPhone 13 and the battery health is 78% and sure I don't need all the new features but the performance and battery is a big enough for me to justify upgrading so people just need to look at it in that way
well, I got a hold of mine in the end yesterday and I will be monitoring the battery life and will let you know. Did you pick up yours yet?
I love that kind of forward-thinking! It's a very Apple way of doing things!!
@@DavidLewisTech Thank you!
What about what it can do ?
It’s such a shame when I read stories like this one. What would it take to re-ignite your interest in iPhone at this point?
Very good points put across effectively.
Great to hear from and so pleased you are enjoying my take on things! plenty of more content coming!
I have a basic iPhone 14 and I have zero disappointments. I had an iPhone 8+ before and was perfectly happy with it.
I still pick up my 14 Pro from time to time and it’s still a great phone
The expectation with every new model having to be amazing is absurd and unrealistic.
Almost exactly what I said - thank you 🙏🏼
I’m still on 13 pro.
So basically size and having the best camera possible counts a lot for me, I am looking forward to the AI rewriting tools!
hi there - the Titanium makes a massive difference. The larger phones are beautifully balanced as well. I think you’ll be just fine 👍🏻. Let me know
I would like to buy the 15 PM at a very good discount but the only drawback is the overheating issue.
I have a feeling we will be getting plenty of Macs in October. I’ll probably pick up a mini and possibly trade in my M3 iMac to help pay for it…
@@DavidLewisTech
I might get a mini? I was thinking about an M4 IMac, with 16gb of memory & 512 gigs of storage. I’m also looking forward to the iPad mini.
Yup, I will get an iPad mini and possibly the Mac mini too I reckon when they are out
I would like to see a larger sensor for better low light photography that’s also flare free
That would mean a larger Camera bump.
Just hope that phones are with 3 year release cycle. A mid update per 1.5 years.
Yeah, good plan…
The last time I was excited for an iPhone was the iPhone X
The last exciting Galaxy was the Fold 2
I think you've made a very smart decision. All of these phones have something good about them, and I for one applaud your open-mindedness 🤛🏻
This market is so mature now that facelifts and minor spec bumps are all that is going to happen hardware wise. The limiting factor is the OS. t’s taken 18 versions of iOS to have a password manager, and that has only been moved from settings for example.
Yup, Andy - I'm with you there. I just looked at the 'new' calculator app on the iPad...it's not exactly pretty is it!
Yeah, great point John - if you know another phone is coming in a few months, why rush to get this one? I wish I’d put that point in the video!
Sadly, as you know, I wholeheartedly agree with you 👌🏻
A18/A18 Pro and M4 are the first armv9 instructions set cpu with 10 instructions (x86 has only 4). We came from 10 years of armv8, since A7 (iphone 5s). This is not a small speed jump, this is a much more future proof and a sub architecture optimized much more for performance per watt than armv8.
People need to study a bit under the hood instead of only looking just cosmetic stuff.
Great insight - thank you
there are so many upgrades, changes and improvements from the 15 Pro Max. My 16 Pro Max comes tomorrow and I upgraded from the 15 Pro Max. Some great new additions, especially for photo and video production. But you will always get the "it looks just the same" crowd ;)
Just wait until we've had a chance to play with it...then we will realise just how good the new 16s really are!
@@DavidLewisTech just an example on A18 pro:
A test made by iphonedo, using luma fusion, converted a 9GB file MP4 to a h265 at highest bit rate possible in 6:50 minutes
A18 from iphone 16 took 12:50 minutes 😁. What a beast that A18 pro is.
Geez - what went on there then? That doesn't bode well!
Upgrading from an iPhone 14 reg to a 16 Pro for the telephoto lens.
Telephoto actually will see its upgrade next year.
@@victoririas2366 But from none to one is huge. I dont wanna miss a whole year of better photos. I can always upgrade if they actually do something worthwhile.
I gotta tell you that you are in for a treat with that 5x lens! It’s great to use
Wow - those are huge sensors! I wonder what the image quality is like?
I’m on iPhone SE second gen so I’m up for an upgrade a good camera to last me 4yr. A pro with max storage
You are about to be in for a serious treat! Enjoy my friend, enjoy…💪🏻
Holding anything back is a misjudgement. You release and allow the new to enter....
...it's just continually coming up with those new ideas year after year to satisfy our demands..
Great to get your opinion - thank you 🙏🏻
Expectations too high? Always. That's the culture of the internet. This phone was aimed at someone like me, coming from an 12 Pro Max....HUGE upgrade for me.
Man - you must be totally buzzing! Froma 12 to a 16...WOW! You must be loving it I'd have thought...
Thank you thank you I’m glad you said it right that’s why I made up my mind to change every 4 years. I’m on
The iPhone 12 Pro and I ordered the 16 pro max and I’m excited.
It sounds very much as if you agree with my sentiments then…let’s all just slow down shall we…
i feel like phones stagnated years ago it's like comparing a laptop from 3 years ago to todays one not really worth thinking about it unless it's just plain broken or too slow.
All tech is so good these days - fast, reliable and efficient…
I will be looking at battery life very closely as I start to use my phone…
@@DavidLewisTech awesome, looking forward to what you have to say on it!
Lack of pro motion is a deal buster for me (again.)
Yeah, the Magnifier is so useful and overlooked and Genmoji....nah, not for me either!
I'm upgrading from iphone 12 mini to 16 pro and I get:
* 2 times fastech chip
* 5x telephoto camera
* better cameras (a lot better)
* AI future
* better battery
* bigger storage
* titan body
* more durable screen
* high refresh rate
* better HDR, higher brightness, low brightness
* always on display
etc...
That was the point I was trying to make - if we waited just a little bit then the net gains are so much more worthwhile! You are in for a real treat! 🤛🏻
_iPhone 12 Pro, the Picasso of Apple’s masterpieces, really hit that "wow" factor for pro photographers with its ProRAW feature-practically begging them to abandon their DSLRs._
_Then, we got the iPhone 13 and 14, which were basically Apple’s way of saying, “Hey, we know you love spending money on what you already have, so here’s more of the same with a sprinkle of videographer bait.” And now, with the iPhone 15 Pro, it’s like Apple remembered, “Oh wait, let’s actually give real professionals something they can use!” Recording in professional resolution log 422, 48-megapixel photos, and even AAA gamers were pulled into the mix._
_Fast forward to the future-who cares about the 16 or 17 Pro?-the iPhone 18 Pro is practically guaranteed to follow in the 15’s legendary footsteps, making sure even Hollywood directors will want to trade their film cameras for Apple’s latest creation._
so, I have been tempted by the idea of shooting some of my talking head videos on the 16 Pro Max to see how it stands up against my Canon.
If you can get $1,000 for your old phone like me go for it. I’m getting $1,000 for my iPhone 12 Pro Max unbelievable deal
Great point well made Neil - it’s like the logos you can get done on Fiver! I mean who can make a living at those crazy rates eh! Paying for a skilled craftsmen should be applauded, not avoided…
Wow! You got the deal of the century there!
Changed my IPhone 13 Pro battery at the Apple store last weekend; keeping this baby with physical SIM card
yeah, I have not made the move to E Sim yet. I dunno why, but it doesn't appeal...not just yet at least!
Love 🍏
yeah, that software improvement coming to AirPods Pro is HUGE! Thats what Apple does best!!
Features like AirPods’ Spatial Audio, the Apple Watch’s finger pinch accessibility, and the iPad’s Universal Control all made much more sense in retrospect.
yeah Sharon - that's precisely what I was meaning about Apple always getting it right in the end. They must think and plan so far in advance...
@@DavidLewisTech I’ve heard 3-4 years ahead. We saw it during the chip shortage. Apple barely experienced a ripple when everyone else’s bottom dropped out.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall at some of those strategy and planning meetings Sharon!
Look at new phones like new tvs. Buy one ever couple years or when there is a new feature you must have
yeah - good take! 👌🏻
And I feel like reviewers should not only compare the incoming model with the outgoing model, but also with older models, giving the consumers a way better perspective on their own situation.
hi ya - that last point is very valid and I've taken note of it! 🤛🏻
I’ll be upgrading my 12 Pro Max this year to a 16 Pro Max, and also want to upgrade my stainless steel Apple Watch 5 to a titanium Apple Watch 10.
gonna be a great upgrade! You'll LOVE it! I saw the satin black Watch Ultra on Friday - damn I can see it on my wrist!
Agree. I still using my iphone11. It is still ok.
My point is proven then!
Enjoy your honesty & being straight to the point!

Excellent information and discussion.
Thank you - I love just trying to sit down and initiate a conversation. Really glad you enjoyed it…
@DavidLewisTech I sure did, and thanks for replying back to my comment. It's really appreciated.
I've always said, if you are kind enough o lend me your time, then I should be able to give you mine back 👍🏻
ive waited 3 years im going from 13 pro max to 16 pro max only for ai and im hoping its a bit better than the 13 pro max all round but it does me thats why i waited 3 yrs
I think it’s safe to say you’ll notice some HUGE improvements. Let me know after you’ve spent some time with it how you are finding it
You ask, "When was the last time you were truly impressed with something that you're going to wait and used every day?" With the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple put a 48 MegaPixel sensor in the camera.
Ask me next week.
well, I hope your day went better than mine! Let me know what you are making of it next week...👍🏻
Because that's our design as a human being,
I’m totally with you on the “AI gimmicks”.
I am so with you on everything you've just said!! Pointless gimmicks have no interest for me...
Thanks for commenting 🙏🏻
I believe most people, or at least myself AI, all i want from it on a phone is spelling and grammar checks in texts/ emails. In the photo app, having AI intelligently group like photos of people, pets ect so i could type in Dog or type in a persons name ect and it finds all photographs of that.
Then finally, having Siri onboard smart enough to find what i need on the device or web. Thats all to be honest, i dont really want open ai or even on apple servers tbh, but if somethings have to be off device, on apple servers only. I just wish they put in more ram and neural engine, so there can be more done on device
I think as it develops Apple may bring more and more on device. They need to trade off their unique position of protecting our privacy
Most phone companies phone financing is every two years, or 3 years so why every year…
yup - exactly
If I get a new iPhone in the future, it'll either be one of the 17 models next year, or the SE4.
I use to have the 11 in Purple, followed by the 13 Pro. I currently have an S23+ in Lavendar (paid off and keeping it). If Apple prices the SE4 right and it comes with a 90 hurtz Refresh Rate, I'm good! Or if they price the 17 regular aggressively enough with a 90 hurtz, also good!
there is talk of an SE coming out in January. If they do, I hope it's with at least a 90HZ panel 🙏🏻
I agree Neil…
Yeah, I gave it some thought before hitting record and it seemed to make some sense to me 👍🏻
Most people should gradually move to the Fibonacci upgrade program.
Can’t wait for the IPhone 17 Pro
What would excite you the most?
Yes but Apple need to make MORE money ! Yearly releases = Greed
very true
I find all this iPhone 16 hate on youtube is silly. The iPhone 16 Pro has so many more new features than the iphone 15 Pros. Everyone keeps talking about the 15 Pros because it finally got the usb-c. Big whoop! The 16Pros got so many more new features.
increased battery life is the most compelling reason to upgrade for this PM15 user, and that is almost compelling enough. However, might as well wait for the 17 or 18 at this point.
Agreed. You may have seen, I just picked mine up yesterday and can't wait to begin to test out all the new features on it...
the length of time it looks as if it will take for Apple Intelligence to reach our iPhones could be the driver over folks waiting for iPhone 17...
I was literally just one click away from biting, it was in the basket ready to be paid for....and i just thought....nah! I've got a 15 Pro what's the point? Maybe the 17.
That's the way. Phones aren't really fast fashion accessories meant to be upgraded every single year.
Ppl need to stop looking at phones like they did 15 years ago. Look at them like new cars. They have subtle changes every year. But only ever 4-5 years do they have big design changes
that is such a good point!! Thank you and great to hear from you 🤛🏻
To answer your questions: absolutely nothing. I am waiting for next year's iPhone at least before upgrading! So disappointed with the offerings this year. I have the iPhone 15 Pro Max so will be able to use AI (when it eventually gets arrives!!)
I am looking forward to the GenEmoji coming - but dunno how often I am going to actually use it.
Yeah KP which is why more and more we see Apple chasing down the services options - more lucrative! 👍🏻
120hz is what I wanted
did you get your hands on a 16 yesterday? if so, what did you get?
Agree
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey David great video.
Apple is the master at spending our money for us!!
The Chinese seem to be pushing the tech boundaries
They are certainly leaving no stone unturned!
If Samsung mocks the camera control button, know that Apple has hit the ball out of the park. And expect some android phones to follow apple with a dedicated camera button. on the Ai front, Pixel will always rule.
yup... imitation is the highest form of flattery, right?
S24 ultra has pen
Yes, it does
Waiting on FedEx for my new 16 pro max. So don’t rain on my parade. ❤
hey Cheryl - so, did Mr FedEx arrive? Did you get it? Are you over the moon? Do let us all know...
How much more do we need our phones to do, yes they could do a few more things better. But when you have something that does a lot of things early is it great at everything, it may do something’s better then other stuff, like the saying goes a jack of of all trades is a master of none. Even with phones doing more it also comes down to how good your cellular service is and yes they my provide unlimited data once you reach a certain point they slow down your speed
is that last point a fact? I never knew cell providers did that! That's shocking!!
@@DavidLewisTech read your providers data plan info
thanks - will be looking at EE later today
