So glad you made a video about this, so many other sources are really unclear about it and I've been confused about the "sowing" of the seeds. There's not a lot of information and videos on tillandsias compared to orchids and bromeliads
I love your videos and greenhouse!! I can't wait till I get enough space so I can start adding so much more to my collection. Your plants look so amazing!! Those baby's are adorable and I hope I can get some of my own soon. Thank you so much for sharing!!
I have a Tillandsia Butzii that is putting out the fluffy seedlings. I fastened a sandwich baggy over the stem and am allowing the seedlings to slowly detach from the mother plant into the baggy. Up to this point, I have the first seedlings suspended inside a jar and the top covered with plastic wrap. Thank you for sharing your technique.
Thank you for the informative video! I will be attempting to grow Tillandsia from seed here in MI. Fingers crossed that all goes well. You give lots of good info and I feel much more hopeful that it will go well.
Thank you! I'm soaking mine right now...it's been a couple of months and it still looks a live. But we will see what happens. Mine is from TX. It had flower pods that seeded. They opened up a few days after I got it home. I've never done anything with them just today cut them off and put in plastic zip lock with a few slits in there for some air. But yeah.. waiting for the Spagnum moss to plant the seends. I hope they sprout!
Thanks for the great video. A neighbor just gave me some seeds from his HUGE air plant...over one foot in diameter!! Once seedlings are big enough, how do I "mount" them on a hanger? I like the hangers you have. Do you make those or buy them? Thanks.
One of my (more than a year old!) tillandsia seed pods burst today!! I watched this like a year ago and need to watch it again, it's been so long lol I have several more pods on that plant and several other plants in the process with several ages of seed pods so I'm going to have a number of seed sets!
Omg!! Thanks thanks thanks so so much for this video and sharing your lovely tillandsia with us, i love those plants and i pretty much killed plants even cactis and bambu and this plant is so pretty and so easy to take care off that i have 4 and they are all well and alive!! The only problem is that i live in madrid spain and they are very harr to find and when u do find ghem they can be a bit expensive, so hopefully wih this cideo i can grow my own, now what i need to do is find the seeds....😬. Again u have become my teacher and i thank u for taking ur time to record and share this with me! Xo marce!
Awesome video 😻👍 I'll try that when my flowering done . Hopefully I'll see those seeds when it pops . Saw a lady in UA-cam where she soaks the seeds for couple of weeks in water before its planted in medium source .
Love airplants. Question, I have 2 airplants blooming forgot the names but they look like the ones in your video the one with the seeds you are extracting from. I would like to germinate seeds also with the paint brush method. Do I wait till after they bloom? Do you have step by step instructions of the process? Love your tutorials and your plants are beautiful.
I have an air plant that flowered, I hand polinated it and now the green flower stalks are still on the plant but it's been three months and nothing has happened. Does it just take a long time for the seed pods to mature or was pollination unssuccessful?
How old does the air plant have to be before you can get seeds? I just bought some air plants and they are really small 4-5 inch long so want to know how long is my wait going to be :)
I just received tillandesia seeds in the mail but they look nothing like these. Mine are tiny black dots the size of a pinhead and the packaging states they are tillandesia seeds and that is what I ordered. Afraid that I will wait for growth and they will be something totally different. Any way these are the right seeds? Any suggestions?
Few years ago I bought tillandsia without explanation how to take care of it. I tried to browse online to find out how to feed it but no luck. My plant don't live last longer and died. I tried to replace my plant but no luck and don't see much air plants at any stores or nurseries. I gave it up. Because I don't want to waste my money on air plants if they r failing. This year I'm searching for the seeds and want to grow air plants one more time but am afraid to lose or fail them.. Can u help me? I need its manual how to take care of plus need to know about things to avoid toxic.
My plant just erupted into a fluff of seeds today. Thanks to your information, I will have a go at germinating them. Approximately how long until a visible green sign of life appears if the seeds germinate?
I wanna know , how you separate the new baby’s from your lid. I was in Florida and brought some air plants home. They are beautiful. If I where to put the seeds which are already growing on a piece of maple bark would that work, for the seeds. I found them on a tree
Brad, Really enjoy your videos. One question though. Sent a bunch of messages recently. Can you look at video on How to Fertilize Orchids : Fertilizing Cymbidium Orchids " How to feed my Orchid. Wanted to identify one of your plants there. Keep them coming..,l. Thanks
33sandbag hi Sandbag, I only have a chance to sit down and answer questions about once a week and there are 100's of questions. haha I think your looking at a Nepenthes Maranda pitcher plant.
I just bought 5 air plants and have hanging bird rings where I want them in my kitchen should I put them on sphagnum so they root and spray so they stay green when watered? Or should I keep them on wood pieces or those tear drop holders for them? I lost one and for know I have soaked them a 1/2 hour 2 x a week.Joyce
I have a humongous red-pink air plant that is very broad, and pointy. Out of my outdoor air plant collection iv been most fascinated in that one, and I am unsure of what it could be. Any guesses?
Where are the seeds? I’m new at air plants. And do you keep the seeds for awhile. I have a tilandsia that just bloomed. Will it have seeds. I think I found the pollen. It’s the yellow fluff I think
I bought a bunch of air plants and killed every one of them. :-( I would love to get more and try again but be better prepared for a new batch. Any and all help would be most welcome. I would like to try to grow them from seeds so they are more acclimated to where I live then coming from someplace where I had no idea the climate they were kept in. What is your advice? Any better place to get seeds then others? PS. I don't have a greenhouse so am I going to be out of luck each time I try because of this?
AlisaBeth Nash i put mine it outdoors with shade but still get abit of sunlight and airflow. Just started a year ago and Its doing well though. I mist my tillies every 2days or daily depends if the weather is hot. They need lots airflow and abit of sunlight best... 🤗
Jackie Fu all about space...300 orchids would fill a room in a few years, I wont get 300 tills but the 35 air plants that germinate will fit in the same tiny container for years
Air plant seeds are only viable to sprout for about a month after they puff out from the pod. So finding them to buy would probably be a lucky window of opportunity.
Hi, great video and guide! I heard you mentioned something bout pollinating with brush. Do you mind if you can further explain to me how it work? Thanks!
omg they're soooo tiny and cute I want at least 500 I have four bigger ones right now (all still quite small, my biggest is almost as big as my fist) but I really want more but they're kind of expensive to buy :/ I've tried looking for seeds online but they're super hard to find except for ebay which.... who knows what those would be
Heylola2 eBay is a really good place to buy seeds if you can’t find them on the high street I have had success from many seeds purchased from there. I would check the rating out and just see if it looks reliable from the sellers other products
This is so helpful! Loving my air plants but I didn't know how to help the seedlings along. Thanks so much!
So glad you made a video about this, so many other sources are really unclear about it and I've been confused about the "sowing" of the seeds. There's not a lot of information and videos on tillandsias compared to orchids and bromeliads
Brad, I love your videos! Your instructions are always clear and the video always in focus! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this.. I've just started with Tillandsias and your videos are very informative for a beginner like me.
I love your videos and greenhouse!! I can't wait till I get enough space so I can start adding so much more to my collection. Your plants look so amazing!! Those baby's are adorable and I hope I can get some of my own soon. Thank you so much for sharing!!

I really like the tillandsia videos, not many as good as this anywhere
I've used Q-tips to cross pollinate, which I've found very successful.
Thank you for the informative video! I will be attempting to grow Tillandsia from seed here in MI. Fingers crossed that all goes well. You give lots of good info and I feel much more hopeful that it will go well.

Super cool video Brad. You grow some really awesome stuff!
George T thanks!
Interesting and informative video! I use a similar method but with drainage. I also mist them every day.
Wade's Orchids yeah< i tend to forget about mine...

Knowledgeable video
Now that its already September what do the seeds look like now? Have they started growing yet or can you see any tiny air plants?
How do you water the mounted tillandsia and the orchid? Have you used any sort of media for orchid or what wood is it mounted on?
Omg!! It can take about 9 months or so for them to sprout.
...so do we still have these lil behbehs? how many matured or even sprouted? Do you have any of the surviving ones of the 1 year old behbehs?
Interesting video. Will try it myself when and if my tills flower. Thanks Brad
David Yu thanks good luck!

I’m sorry I asked my question before watching all. Do d the seeds show up after their blooms die off?
Thank-you for this information! Great information!
What is the most colorful air plant? Do they get more colorful in the sun? I'm enjoying my new hobby. And thank you

This was very interesting!! Thanks Brad!
Terry Klemesrud thanks!
I'm using spaghnum moss too but my spaghnum moss looks dark green and black after some time, what should I do
It will take a year to know if you succeeded with the pollination?
Thanks for the info and demo!
Extremely helpful
It’s been a few years now. How did the other batch turn out ? Update video? :)
Does the mother plant still produce pups after producing seed pods?
Nicely done
My air plant has pieces break off can I use these to start. A new plant
Where are the seeds? I’m new at air plants. And do you keep the seeds for awhile. I have a tilandsia that just bloomed. Will it have seeds. I think I found the pollen. It’s the yellow fluff I think

are you going to sell the babies?, because I will be interesting to get them.
wow that beautiful the way the seed look like
Gaston Placide thanks!

Where do you get the moss?
New subscriber here. Great video.
Great video
ivy geerman thanks Ivy
i was wondering... do you know anything about the seeds for guzmania?
Hey brad can you do a video care about tollumnia orchids? Thank you
If you don't want 300 of the same orchid, what are you going to do with these tillandsia seedlings?
Jackie Fu all about space...300 orchids would fill a room in a few years, I wont get 300 tills but the 35 air plants that germinate will fit in the same tiny container for years
WOW!! Those seedlings are a year old?
Yes they grow incredibly slow.
what kind of tillandsia is that might i ask?
In how many time the seeds is germinate???
will stainless steel wire hurt air plants.
Do you have update on these seeds?
The seeds is like fire weeds lots of cotton.
If you don't have a plant that's gone to seed, do you know where one might be able to buy seeds to start this process?
Air plant seeds are only viable to sprout for about a month after they puff out from the pod. So finding them to buy would probably be a lucky window of opportunity.
what did he use
How do you bring out the red colors in airplants?
lots of light
Is there a recent update on these?
So does the spaghum moss revive when it's watered?
Arib Hassam mine never does but some people say theirs does
Nope, sphagnum moss can't be revived once its all dried out.
Koreyite miracles do happen though! My dry sphagnum moss that I use on orchids occasionally shoots up some leaves!!
Koreyite yes it can actually
Update on these guys and the rest?
Hi, great video and guide! I heard you mentioned something bout pollinating with brush. Do you mind if you can further explain to me how it work? Thanks!
chronokidz I have a little paint brush the a transfer pollen from one flower to the next, just like an insect would do
omg they're soooo tiny and cute I want at least 500
I have four bigger ones right now (all still quite small, my biggest is almost as big as my fist) but I really want more but they're kind of expensive to buy :/ I've tried looking for seeds online but they're super hard to find except for ebay which.... who knows what those would be

That's cool
I've seen a lot of people get scammed with seeds on ebay though so that's why I'm worried,..
I've tried finding seeds for different air plants so I can grow them at home, & there's nowhere to buy them!!
Tillandsia seeds do not last long, so you'll rarely find for sale. While germinating is fun, it's way easier to multiply them by pups!
👍🏻❤️
+tao200124 Thanks!
WOW !! peccato manchino i sottotitoli in italiano..
I just killed a bunch that I ordered from Amazon.... Very disappointing and sad. I think I watered them too much but it was only once a week.
can I have some seed of it
Gaston Placide check out ebay
ok thank u
updateeeeee pls
I took my Tillandsia apart and it all died
*𝐠⁺*
😂
