To identify Porus as being someone of Pakistani heritage because Pakistan currently occupies the land he ruled doesn't make any sense. His identity is alluded to only in Hindu sources, but he is not named what the Greeks called him. Porus's state consisted of the Taxila and Punjab region and when he submitted to Alexander, his state actually grew exponentially by fighting alongside Alexander. The sources clearly indicate the people were Hindu and were of similar ethnicity to the peoples along the Indus River - thus they were Indians.
